Definitely Not Him

Rate this book
All I wanted for my 30th birthday was an epic night to remember…Instead, I got knocked up by my boss.

Okay, wait.

Before you start judging me (I can *see* you), I didn’t know he was my boss at the time. All I knew was that he was the sexiest man I’d ever seen in my life, complete with a deep British accent and lips that owned me for hours in bed.

Yet, when he ASSumed he was getting a second round after insulting my “cracker box apartment, I kicked him out, hoping I’d never see him again.

Until four weeks later

That’s when I realized I was ‘late, when twenty different pregnancy tests revealed a truth I didn’t want to believe.

And just when I thought I’d have to spend another four weeks searching for him, he waltzed through the company’s doors, and my supervisor announced that he was our new CEO.

That’s not even the worst part about this situation, though.

Not even close.

Turns out, this man was harboring a secret on the night we first met, and the next eight months were about to get far more complicated than I could ever imagine

‘Definitely Not Him is a sexy, standalone ‘single at 30 story.

Just started reading this…and discovered it’s heavily based on current British royalty. I just wasn’t aware it would have a contemporary royalty angle and I’m just not interested in that right now. In real life, sure lol…but not in my smut books…not unless it’s about a completely fictional royal family.

Just wanted to throw that out there for people unaware of the premise. Might draw some people toward it more. Or not. Anyway. It was just too obvious this was based on our current UK royals and I didn’t like the vibe in general.

I really had fun reading this, I liked the way it was easy to get through. I also did not expect to really like Tyler as he in my head was supposed to be this arrogant asshole who thought he was a gift to women all around the world but instead we got someone who was pretty much the opposite and had a good head on his shoulders.

I see that some people dd not like Chloe, but I did. I loved her banter and stubbornness, but I also understood where she came from on a lot of the things that happened and how she retreated. I honestly would have done some of it too.

These two meets randomly and it leads to them having an incredible night of sex. Sadly, Chloe is a bit of a pessimist and rips up his number and kicks him out the next morning after they have a bit of a fight. Weeks later she finds out she is pregnant by him and once she tells him because of course the new CEO of her company is him lol

I was a bit shocked to read in the beginning is that he would be taking over a new job in the USA as he is a ROYAL prince and the next in line for the throne, but we got a bit of the Harry situation happening where he resigned his position and left the crown behind.

Despite the initial shock of her pregnancy, he takes it all in good stride and proceeds to basically have to force her to spend any time with him, but Chloe isn't having it for quite some time lol

Although they do not get together right after the baby reveals and weeks of being around each other, they eventually end up together and once they are Tyler (not that he was not committed before) is the ultimate boyfriend/baby daddy. He protects her and makes sure she is set for anything she requires.
There is a scene where Chloe reveals what happened to her parents when she was 17. Everyone believes they died in a car accident, but she truly believes they died on purpose as a double suicide pact since her father was losing his mind and he refused treatment and his mother did not want to be without him. That was heartbreaking.

Sadly, once their relationship and her pregnancy are out in the open it’s free for all the press to print out every story they can and every lie they find. It is too overwhelming and Chloe leaves Tyler (we also find out right before that scene that he is planning on proposing to her). They spend the next few weeks apart and Chloe does not talk to him, but he never stops being a father to their twin...right I forgot that part haha they are having twins haha. He sends videos of himself reading books so Chloe can play it for the babies.

He eventually proposes to her, and this seals their forever.
The family drama from him should have been better resolves for me though. I wished he had not had the whole family come and say their apologies and we get nothing after? We do not know where they all stand so it was a bit vague.

The epilogue gives us a quick look into the future where they are married, he is away from the royal life as much as possible. Still living in Seattle and Chloe is pregnant again!

OM drama: Insignificant date Chloe had and also a guy who talks to her at a bar once she reveals she is pregnant to Tyler, but Tyler shows up and basically destroys the guy’s chances (not that he had any.

OW drama: There is an arranged dating situation going on in the UK for Tyler by his family, he never sleeps with the woman and only had one date and one small kiss. The whole situation is fabricated for the press and the girl also causes a bit of issues with the lies she keeps feeding the world which made Chloe believe their engagement and that he might have cheated on her with Chloe - which is not true. And also, the other CEO of the company Chloe works at is made to look like the new love interest for Tyler but it's all a fake story and once she finds out that Tyler/Chloe are together with babies on the way she tells the world, and this causes more issues for the couple.

I am glad Tyler got his revenge on Hazel (the other CEO and the one who hurt Chloe) by unleashing reports about her to the press but I wanted to know WHAT it was and Chloe’s reaction to it.

Almost-4-Signature Whitney G stars

I just wish it was longer, especially at the end.

Chloe’s turning 30 and her best friends are throwing her a surprise birthday scavenger hunt party. Chloe’s excited to do it all, unfortunately, her demanding boss Hazel needs her to help her out, like usual. Chloe’s the brains behind the company, but Hazel’s name’s on it, so she takes all the credit. She’s doing the scavenger hunt when she gets initials for the next location, begins with F and ends with S- duh! The Four Seasons!! 🤷🏻‍♀ except that it isn’t but she doesn’t find out until later

Tyler’s turning 35 and is going through a bit of a dry spell. The thing is that well he’s royalty in Great Britain and he has a hard time finding suitable “companions. He’s becoming co-CEO of Hazel’s company and he wants to get a feel of Seattle for a bit. He gets out of the shower, at the Four Seasons, when he’s almost attacked by Chloe, with an umbrella🤣, because she thinks he’s trespassing when the reality is that SHE’S the trespasser 😬😅👀 and she doesn’t know who he is 👀

So he wants her to show him around Seattle, all the while his security detail is making sure that people aren’t around for their “tour and of course the chemistry ignites 👀

Bow chicka bow wow= surprise pregnancy 🫠

What I liked/loved-
Whitney G‘s signature banter. Sigh. I highlighted a lot🤣 and laughed so much. The way they interact with each other is 🤌🏻

—the steam starts early🔥. Well, um, yeah surprise pregnancy 😉 I think it’s probably the fastest burn I’ve read by her. Tyler wants Chloe and he makes no mistakes in showing her just how much 👀. I can always appreciate a man that loves to please his woman
”Sit your pu$$y on my face. “What? I froze. “You heard what I said. His deep accent made the words sound even dirtier. “Sit on my face so I can devour your pu$$y.

—Tyler’s confidence. Oh yeah. It’s smexxxy. And he can be so alpha (when it counts) 😉

—the taboo work aspect. So. Tyler ends up becoming Chloe’s boss. Oh yeah. I loved that 😈

—the way Chloe reveals info to Tyler. No beating around the bush with her 🤣

—the emails. Totally made me giggle

—Chloe’s best friends and Tyler’s confidant. I can appreciate supportive side characters

—the two epilogues

—how Tyler stood up to his family. Good. They were 🤬🤬🤬

What I didn’t like/wanted more of:
—Tyler talks about these consequences when it comes to Chloe but then he doesn’t follow through. There were many times they were separated and he just let it happen 😏. Like. Tyler. Come on man! Go get her! Why are you allowing her to ghost you or avoid you? You know where she lives you work with her you can go and do something 🤷🏻‍♀. Be the alpha man you normally are

—considering that this is a surprise pregnancy book, I wanted more of the birthing/baby stuff. It goes by soooo quickly! And then we get two quick epilogues (the second one is super cute) but I felt shortchanged 😫

—his family needed to feel some wrath ay yay yay

Overall, I enjoyed it! I think it’s the only Whitney G book I’ve read with this plot line

⚠️safety squad⚠️

-mild OM tries to ask h on date. H sabotages his chance

I love, Love, LOVE this book!! It has everything I look for in a romance.

Chloe was a bit quirky and lots of fun. She was struggling with life facing her thirtieth birthday when a hot one night stand ended up with a surprise. Yeah, it’s a trope that’s been done repeatedly. But when written by this author the spice and fun factor are amped up to a whole new level. I loved the way Chloe was always ready with a comeback to Tyler’s remarks.

Tyler was exactly what I love in a hero. He was determined to have Chloe and set out to do so anyway he could. With no sugar coating what he wanted, he won my heart as he worked his way into Chloe’s life and set out to take care of her and their situation. There’s a great moment where a bit of jealousy has him setting things straight and I couldn’t help but laugh at his outrageous actions.

This is relatively low angst until the end when this couple face a serious conflict. It’s full of laugh out loud moments as well as a steam level that was borderline nuclear. The secondary characters help to move the story as well as give the reader a better understanding of the hero or heroine. Overall, a fun, steamy read that kept me engaged from beginning to end.

Ugh! I hated this heroine so much that I wished Hero had taken his babies and found a good woman who deserved him! She is the sole reason that ruined it for me and hence for my rating.

Where the heck is the romance plot in this story? More & more people these days label something as "Romance" but fail to deliver the romance part in their story. This is what happened here and for that reason alone, I would like to ask Authors and publishers alike to PLEASE stop mislabeling them! Call them anything but this as I pay to read a love story - not one where there is no emotions (at least on heroine's end), bonding or anything that can be construed as love. Sex people is not love/romance. LOL

The heroine completely ruined this story for me. When I started the book and realized it was going to involvea member of the royal family I got nervous since that's not something I love all that much. But really the problem in this book was Chloe, and Chloe alone. I didn't understand any of the "conflicts" that she created in her mind for reasons to be so bitchy to Tyler and it made me hate her. Actually it had me pissed at the whole story. My breaking point where I knew this book wasn't redeemable at all was when Chloe

I pushed through and finished the book but the ending definitely didn't get better. Instead it was more of Chloe acting very unreasonable, in my opinion, and causing more drama than the story deserved. Overall, I didn't see any connection between her and Tyler and actually the story didn't even show them together as a couple much so that's not a surprise.

The heroine had all the characteristics I hate in heroines:
-> flaky
-> kinda trashy
-> makes dumbass decisions
-> childish af
-> stupid to the power infinity
-> just obnoxious in general

It was bad enough that the trope required major suspension of disbelief to read (I mean, the British royal parallels couldn't be more obvious unless the real William and Diana stepped out of the pages and slapped us in the face...the hero's literal middle name is William and his mom is named Joanna, like COME ON), but then to have an idiotic heroine on top of all that is just too much to digest. Honestly surprised I made it as far as I did. But the last straw came when the heroine acted all surprised that the hero saw her Facebook posts on her FRIGGING PUBLIC PROFILE, like, how are we supposed to believe this chick was "basically the CEO of the publishing company" and was supposedly singlehandedly running the company, while being THIS STUPID. Just listening to her thoughts were making my IQ points drop. I just cannot abide stupidity. And her boss was cartoonishly villainous. Like, just 1 chapter ago she was threatening the heroine that she would never allow the heroine to leave her job, yet 1 chapter later she was letting the heroine go to work for the hero. Make it make sense -_-

I hate that authors still seem to have this mentality that just saying a character "reads a lot" is basically saying that they are super smart. It's like saying someone wearing glasses must be nerds.

I generally don’t leave poor reviews, but unfortunately, the hero, Tyler, was the only character I liked in this entire book. I was really excited to read it because I have liked the author's other work, but Definitely Not Him was definitely not for me.

For the majority of the book, our heroine, Chloe, plays games. They meet by chance, she doesn’t know he’s a Royal Prince, and they do have a very fun and flirty instant connection. He loves that she plays hard to get and is sarcastic, and she loves he’s such a looker and can please her like no other. While they don’t share any secrets when they first meet, they do have a fabulous night celebrating their shared birthdays where he can just fly under the radar.

The problem for me is how wishy-washy she was when he left his phone number and she ripped it up. He then moves to the US permanently to become co-CEO of the same publishing company she works for. When they are alone she blurts out that she is pregnant, then is barely civil. She constantly plays games, walks out on him, doesn’t answer his calls, and doesn't let him get a word in edgewise. The few crumbs she throws his way he gobbles up, and he deserves so much more because even though he's not perfect, he was all in from the beginning. They have a push and pull and she doesn’t give in unless it was for sex or shelter.

At work, Chloe apparently is the brains behind the heiress and CEO, Hazel of the publishing company she owns. It’s obvious Chloe is a hard worker by the hours she puts in and her knowledge of the industry, but not once does Chloe have a backbone and stand up to her boss who is clearly manipulating her. Thankfully, Tyler sees this and does promote her, but even then, he doesn’t call her out or do anything about Hazel’s unprofessional behavior for almost six months.

Chloe’s two best friends, Kristen and Madison, were just awful in my opinion. At first I liked them being there for her, but then they treated Tyler like the enemy, and were just plain mean. He was desperate to talk to Chloe, and they never tried to mediate, even at her baby shower. Tyler’s family was horrid, too, and resembled the real Royal family in more ways than one.

Chloe claimed to love him but I don’t recall one nice thing she did for him. She kept ghosting him, leaving him, went on dates with other men in the beginning even though he asked her not to, and was very disrespectful. He was nurturing, sensitive, generous, not pretentious, and really just wanted to live a normal life and feel loved.

I truly get she was overwhelmed by all the bad press and how her life became upended, but a real heroine to me would talk it out and trust him when he said he’d figure it out. She never let him cry on her shoulder about how his life as a royal hurt him...he left his family after all to start over in the US. He was always guilty until proven innocent with her.

I felt she behaved like a self-centered, whinny teen, not a woman who just turned 30. I nearly cried when he sent recordings of his voice reading baby books to their unborn children because she refused to let him in.

I really felt bad for him and wished he’d just taken his money, quit his job as co-CEO of the publishing company, gotten custody of their babies, and started over with someone who actually cared about him and put him first. I did read to the end and only endured another big let down. Things were tied up very quickly, with no real discussion, no real romance between the two, no sharing feelings, and no apologizing.

What had started out as a fun book to read ended up with me confused and left wondering what I had just read.

I like Whitney's books. Always with some quick spice and a storyline leaving you intrigued.

I felt like this book started out promising and the spiteful banner definitely made it interesting but halfway through the book, it got ridiculous.

I found Chloe quite annoying with her indecision and reactions to everything. I liked her friends at the beginning but they were definitely pushy towards the end that I was wondering if they even have her best interest at heart. I mean obviously, Chloe was heartbroken but they were just unnecessarily rude to Tyler.

I just felt like Tyler had a bad lot of life and he had no control over the behaviors of his family and the press and yet he was being punished by Chloe for this. The whole press situation was ridiculous and was not resolved in the end. His family acted cruel and then decided to have a random change of heart after years of being selfish. It seemed even more unlikely and there were other characters that added to the drama but sort of disappeared at the end with no problems.

I was really sad how quickly everything sorted itself out in the end that it just left me unsatisfied. I still love this author but this book is definitely not my favorite.

No nie wiem...

I really enjoyed this one. Definitely Not Him was a quick read with some humor splashed in to keep things light.

I could definitely sense that Whitney wrote this book with our current Royal family as the muses behind it.

I enjoyed the characters, both main and secondary. They all added a bit to the story to keeps entertaining. The banter was probably the best part of this whole story. It was very light with some added humor to keep things from getting too incredibility dramatic.

Overall, it's a good read. There are certain areas that could've been fleshed out a bit more, but it didn't hurt the story and stop me from enjoying it.

A nice, summer read.

Trzydzieste urodziny to ostatni moment, by przeżyć coś szalonego i spontanicznego.

Pierwszy tom z serii Trzydziestoletnie singielki to lekka i niezawiła historia.
