I’m in trouble.
A quick and dirty hookup with the hunky mechanic I just met is bad enough.
But when that God-like twenty-year-old turns out to be a student in my English class, I know it’s about to get much worse.
Pax Smith isn’t just the star player on the rugby team at Florence U and the hottest man I’ve ever been with. He also has a dark sordid past, and it’s written in the deep scars all over his face.
Not to mention—he’s in the closet.
Which means I have his secret. And he hates that.
What started as a one-time thing has turned into something neither of us were ready for.
And I’m not ready to let this wounded bully go.

It was not that bad but I wouldn’t recommend it either.
Actually the plot was good with a lot of potential but the execution was just meh. Pity, it could’ve been so much more.

I think the author wanted to tell a story that was plotwise too much and too heavy for a novella. The story needed more development in every regard to pull at readers’s emotions and make it convincing. Like this it was only a string of events and background information that left me cold and the connection between the mcs lukewarm. Even all the sex they had couldn’t change that.

So I guess either tell an erotic tale with only a simple plot on that less than 150 pages or take your time and a lot more pages to tell one like this. The characters would've deserved it.

Anyway moving on.

4 ⭐️ Everything I could want in a novella!

"I've never loved the feeling of being used and so selfishly fucked before, but the idea of being this twenty-year-old's fuck toy has some strange appeal to it."

WHAT TO EXPECT:
 MM
 insta-lust
 age gap
 student x teacher
 forbidden romance
 scarred hero (physically and emotionally)

Once again, Sara Cate has created a story with just as much spice as there is heart.

But first, let's talk about the spice!!!! The fire that burns between Pax and Thomas is undeniable and explosive. Things start off with a bang in chapter 1, and they certainly don't fizzle out throughout the story. If anything, it gets even hotter.

I absolutely adore Pax and Thomas!!!! Both men have things to work on or issues to overcome, but something draws them together, and it's together they're able to find happiness. I loved witnessing the moments of the vulnerability between the two. Thomas wanted to take care of someone, and Pax was looking for acceptance and love. A perfect match. ❤️

Overall, a beautiful and sexy story that you should read!

I know it's fucking stupid, but I place all of the blame on him. It's his fault for being a whore, for being good looking, for being my teacher, and for being in my car. How much I fucking like him is his fault too.

yee-fucking-haw! in fire and ash, we have age-gap, student-teacher trope, possessive asshole college student guy etc etc. this had the potential for being my one of,no doubt, top reads for this year but sadly it was a just a novella. a killer storyline confined in a hundred pages! life's unfair.

This is my first Sara Cate book and definitely won't be my last ... but why was this so short!! I loved both Thomas and Pax as MCs and felt the chemistry between them was everything I want in a relationship. It was unfortunate this wasn't a full fleshed out novel because if it was, their relationship would've been the best I've read in a long time and I just wanted to delve beneath all the intricate layers of Pax. Due to the shortness and missing out on reading the full potential of Pax, I had to remove half a star. Otherwise, I love Sara Cate's writing, plot skills, angst and tension building and amazing characters.

Remember Everly and Cullen from Burn for Me?

Remember Everly’s best friend, Thomas?

Well, this is his romance with one of Cullen’s rugby team mates.

I loved Pax so much, I wish we had a full book just about him and Thomas. Their chemistry was off the charts. The way Thomas described and lusted after Pax and his scars was sexy af. And their emotional connection was really well done, considering this is less than 200 pages long.

Well done, Sara Cate. You continue delivering the good stuff ❤️

Re-Read - December2023:

”The man I fucked yesterday is my new English professor. Oops??
Give me another 150 pages please and thank you!! I forgot how much I loved them!

A broken car, a ride to the mechanic shop, a quick fuck bent over a desk and getting sent on your way. Thomas first and second last meeting with the ”Greek God in blue coveralls” or at least Pax had hoped so. In the closet, homeless and with a traumatic past, Pax can’t afford to let anyone in. He tries to hide his insecurities and vulnerabilities by lashing out and acting like a jerk. He’s been abused or neglected and when threatened, he’d rather scare you away than risk being hurt again. If only his teacher could take the very obvious hint and fuck off.

He had a keen interest in me, judging by the way his eyes lingered on my lips and eyes, almost like he was attracted to me. Maybe that’s why I pounced on him in the office. I don’t get that look a lot. Grotesque repulsion? Absolutely. Fear and paranoia? Definitely. Curiosity? Sure. But attraction? Nope. Never.

I loved Pax! Deep down he was such a sweetheart! His character development was great. The way Thomas cared for him and could see through his antics!! I love them.

I’ve never loved the feeling of being used and so selfishly fucked before, but the idea of being this twenty-year old’s fuck toy has some strange appeal to it.

Ależ jestem zaskoczona tą książką i to na plus. Krótka , acz treściwa. Insta lust, różnica wieku, profesor/student. No czego można chcieć więcej, może tylko tego, żeby była dłuższa.

This was a great little naughty forbidden romance. It was nice to see Everly and her man again too.

This was quick and spicy but still had some emotional punches. I loved that Pax was able to find a home in Thomas. Which made this novella still hit home for me.

This was a perfectly delicious little novella.

Thomas makes an appearance in book one (Burn for Me) as Everly’s best friend (and Everly and Cullen make an appearance in this book). If you aren’t down for a toxic, reverse age-gap bullying storyline you can totally skip over that one and enjoy this book. Thomas is a journalist who quits his job and gets a teaching position at the same college where his friend Everly is teaching. Before starting his new job, his car has a breakdown, which is how he meets Pax, who works as a mechanic. Pax comes onto him, and they hook up.

Pax is a rugby player who grew up in the foster system. He has a lot of scars that he’s self-conscious about, and he’s not out as a gay man. When he shows up to an English class only to find out Thomas is his teacher, things get uncomfortable for both of them. Even so, they can’t seem to deny the magnetic pull of their mutual attraction.

These two had great chemistry. The book certainly could have been longer, especially for the topics it attempted to tackle, but I think there was a decent amount of development considering its length. I don’t read a lot of mm so I can’t say how it holds up compared to books by authors who write exclusively in this genre, but I found it satisfying. Spicy, a bit angsty, and tied up with a nice little epilogue. Just what I needed!

🌶️🌶️🌶

Welp this was a lot shorter than I had anticipated but it was still a complete story that left me mostly sated.

I enjoyed the dynamics that made the younger man the super dominant one. It really revved my engine when Pax bossed Thomas (his professor fyi) around.

I liked the tumultuous battle that Pax fought in his head. I appreciated that he knew he was wrong and out of line. Not that it changed his tune too much.

I guess for me this one was all about Pax but that’s fine by me, he was sexy as hell.

Meh

Sometimes novellas just don’t flow very well. The characters never get their footing to make it actually believable, rather it feels forced and stilted. That’s what happened with this.

Although, I’m not sure if I would’ve like it had it been a full-length novel. The whole toxic love alpha male BS just really isn’t my jam.

I tried!

Tropes

 MM
 insta-fuck
 age-gap
 forbidden love
 scarred hero

Thomas / Pax
 34 / 20
 Teacher / Student
 Shorter / Taller
 Mature / Jerk

Because of the hemophobia n' inequality he faced, Thomas resigns from his journalist position. On the way of to start as an English teacher, his car stops and when he calls for mechanics, he gets a young, tall Greek God with a scarred face.
After they hookup, Pax walks into class that Thomas is the teacher.

When Pax behaves like a bad boy with a bad past, Thomas treats him with patient and as much he is a dominant (not in bdsm style) he tells to Pax he is in charge, just to break his wall down.

After that it's 💞💦💔👨‍❤️‍👨

This is a shortish novella. I enjoyed clichés and reverse tropes but it as a little bit messy, I don't like exaggerated drama but felt like rushed. I rounded 3,5 down.

I don't like the way I imagine Thomas physically.......
