Beverly Marie Inman was born on 23 December 1946 in Tuscumbia, Alabama, USA. Daughter of Doris Marie and Walter D. Inman Jr. A born romantic, she fell in love with The Beauty and the Beast epic at an early age, when her grandfather bought her an illustrated copy of the famous fairy tale. Even before she learned to read and write, her vivid imagination created magical words and fabulous characters inside her mind. Movies fascinated her, and by the time she was seven she was rewriting the movies she saw on television and at the local theater to give them all happy endings. By the age of nine she'd penned her first novel. She wrote short stories, TV scripts, poetry, and novels throughout high school and into college.

After her marriage to Billy Ray Beaver, the "love of her life", and the births of her two children, Beverly continued to be a voracious reader and a devoted moviegoer, but she put her writing aspirations on hold until her children were teenagers. At every age of their lives, from infancy to adulthood, the children had been a true joy to her. She devoted herself to her husband and children and considered herself one of the many selfless "supermoms" who put their family's needs first. She believed she had had it all, just not all at the same time.

In her mid-30s, Beverly returned to her former passion ¡ª writing ¡ª as a hobby, but before 40, she decided that she wanted to make writing a full-time career. And when she rediscovered an old dream ¡ª of becoming a published writer ¡ª no one was more supportive of her aspirations than her family. Her children were her greatest cheerleaders and her husband was her biggest supporter. After writing over 40 books and receiving numerous awards and nominations, as well as having books on the USA Today list and consistently on the Waldenbooks bestseller list, her career was indeed a dream come true. Having a fantastic family and fabulous friends, as well as making a living doing the one thing she had loved doing since childhood, she considered herself truly blessed. Beverly died suddenly of heart failure on 21 April 2011.

Rich and spoiled Jamie Upton, heir to the Upton fortune, is back in town accompanied by his fianc¨¦e. Jamie is known for a long line of lovers. Having a fianc¨¦e isn't slowing him down at all. When Jamie's tortured body is found in a cabin on the mountain, his former lover, Jazzy Talbot, is the prime suspect. Jazzy is certain that someone is watching her; but can't prove it. Her friends believe in her innocence, but the rest of the town considers her a murderer. Caleb McCord, the bouncer Jazzy hired at her club, is worried about her and is sticking close. When another murder occurs, secrets from the past come to light and threaten Jazzy's life.

This is the second book in the Cherokee Pointe trilogy. The suspense portions of the book kept my interest. The local psychic saw Jamie's murder and knows that the killer was a woman. There were several viable suspects to sort through. I liked that the author gave us enough information to pick out the killer. The romance portion of the story was okay, but felt unfinished by the end of the book. I hope Jazzy and Caleb's story continues in the last book of the series. The graphic torture scenes and the over-the-top sex scenes were a little too much for me. Be warned that many readers will not like this. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

Although I enjoyed this 2nd book in the Cherokee Pointe Trilogy, I did not like it as much as the first one. I liked the characters of Jazzy and Caleb, but I didn't feel confident at the end of the book that all of the issues between them had been settled. That may come in the third book of the trilogy, but this book just didn't have enough resolution between the hero and heroine to satisfy me.

Jasmine "Jazzy" Talbot spent many years loving wastrel Jamie Upton, and he has broken her heart many times. In the previous book, Jamie brought a fiance home to Cherokee Pointe, yet he still tries to resume his relationship with Jazzy. Jazzy is furious with him and threatens him. When Jamie is found dead in The Last To Die, suspicion rests on Jazzy, and she is arrested. As Jazzy's friends work to clear her name, another murder occurs. While this is going on, Jazzy begins a relationship with Caleb McCord, a bouncer in her club. Caleb has secrets that will threaten his future with Jazzy. Jazzy's very life is in danger as an insane murderer focuses on her.

I thought that The Last to Die was interesting and I enjoyed reading it, but I wasn't really satisfied with the ending as pertains to the hero and heroine. I just felt that there was still too much standing between them. I hope that the next book in the trilogy resolves their relationship. The killer in this story brutally tortures the victims in this book, and the graphic nature of the descriptions will be a turn off for some readers. I am looking forward to reading the story of Sheriff Jacob Butler in the next book. I am also anxious to read about Jazzy's mysterious birth and her probable relationship to Reve Sorrell.

I¡¯m going to be honest and say that the writing style of the book took me some time to get used to. That being said, it was not badly written, I think it was just because of the massive difference in style between the book I came from and this one. Even with that, it didn¡¯t take me long at all to become truly gripped in the story.

Following the brutal death of the soon-to-be-married town player, fingers are pointed in the direction of one of his exes who has been known to threaten him on more than one occasion. However, this is not the only problem in town as pretty soon other members of the town are being murdered in similarly brutal ways. Whilst Jazzy may have a reason to have wanted the town player, Jamie, dead there seems to be no real reason behind her killing the other members of the town. Moreover, the town psychic has a reason to believe that Jazzy is not to blame for these unfortunate events and that the blame is merely being directed her way.

Throughout you think you have worked out who is to blame before questionable motives of other town members are thrown in your direction, constantly leaving you second guessing as to who could be behind the murders. That being said, despite all the red herrings once certain information is released it becomes more than obvious who is to blame (although, luckily, this isn¡¯t until quite late in the book).

What I really enjoyed about this book was the use of the psychic. I¡¯ve always wanted a crime book to involve the use of a psychic and this book satisfied my needs perfectly. On more than one occasion I have read books which speak of the use but never really seem bothered by them or they use them only for us to find out later in the book that they are a fake. I know it¡¯s only a little thing but for me it was nice to see.

Whilst it may have given me what I wanted on that front I was left a little bit disappointed in the end. Whilst the crime was answered there were some other issues in the town that were not brought to a roundabout end (although I do now know there to be another book dealing with the unresolved issues).

This book tells the story of Jasmine "Jazzy" Talbot. She was your typical, rough-around-the-edges girl from the wrong side of the tracks but possessed a startling beauty that attracted the town's biggest heart breaker Jamie Upton. When Jazzy was younger she succumbed to Jamie's charm but as she grew wiser she realized he'd never offer her marriage and security because, well, then he'd lose his inheritance and he's too much of a greedy louse to turn his back on millions for the love of his life. Now he's engaged to marry a woman he doesn't love to please his gramma while still sniffing around Jasmine. But Jamie has ticked off one woman too many and pays for his sins in a most horrific way . . .

During all of this drama Jazzy's look-a-like comes to town. Is snotty Reve Sorrell a long-lost twin or just an annoying sub-plot? Reve despises Jazzy at first glance writing her off as a slut and is determined to leave town when a run-in with the sexy sheriff and a car accident delays her. Oh, how convenient . . .

I managed to make it through 200 pages of this book before peeking towards the end to discover the killer. It, like so many others, just couldn't keep my interest and the stereotypical characters didn't hook me at all. It was sufficiently gruesome but I think I've just read too much at this point or maybe I'm just overstressed but I'm not going to stress myself further by forcing myself to finish it.

Wow, absolutely wow, this book has left me speechless and in awe of the author. It just amazes me how the author continues to keep coming up with these amazing plot ideas.

This is an edge of ure seat gripping crime thriller, I could not put this book down, was completely taken in by the story from beginning to end.

As always I love the characters in this ongoing series of books. :-)

Happy reading ^^

It was neatly written. I enjoyed reading this book.
For me though, this is erotica first, mystery the next. Usually I'm not very fond of the genre, but hey I only borrowed someone else's so that's it.
Turned out the book was good. Not a masterpiece of course, but enough to keep you entertained for hours.
Read it. It's worth it.

I was not sure if I was going to enjoy this book. I had read some of the reviews and they said they didn¡¯t like the writing style but I did. I could not put this book down and there were many twists that I didn¡¯t see coming. It was a great book!

We met Jamie Upton, and Jazzy Talbot, in book 1 and know their history. We also know that Jamie is a manwh**re, who enjoys toying with Jazzy's affections. Jamie has been back in Cherokee Pointe for the past several months with his latest fiancee'. His latest plan is to go through with the wedding, to appease his grandmother, and continue his philandering on the side. Except someone has no intention of allowing Jamie to follow through with his plan and ends Jamie's life in a horrific way! Some say that he's gotten his comeuppance, and suspect Jazzy...she's even arrested and waiting on the grand jury. When another man is tortured and killed, the sheriff and police chief realize that they may just have a serial killer on their hands. Of course, no one knows that the serial killer's ultimate goal is to end Jazzy's life. Meanwhile, a Jazzy look-a-like comes into town and stirs things up even further! Does Jazzy have a twin? How can that be, when Aunt Sally swears that her sister had only one baby? Lots of action and drama in this 2nd book in the trilogy. Looking forward to book 3 and finding out the truth of Jazzy and Reve's births.

Plot. The series begins as an FBI agent on the trail of a serial killer arrives in Cherokee Pointe, Tennessee. A smallish town with a cast of quirky characters, including a psychic, her protective Cherokee brother, a redheaded bar owner, a bouncer, some snobby upper class, all drop-dead beautiful people. The murders are grizzly, bloody, violent, and descriptive - not for the faint of heart.

I enjoyed the murder mysteries ... I found the abundance of sex scenes an overkill that was gratuitous and predictable.

Narration. Gavin isn't my favorite. Listen to the sample before you invest; you may find her just peachy. Three-novel series written by Beverly Barton, narrated by Marguerite Gavin. All characters traverse all three novels, so read in sequence - The Fifth Victim 10.5 hours of listening, The Last to Die just over 11, and finally As Good As Dead 11.5. All books were released in 2018 by Blackstone Audio.

All three novels are very, very descriptive, containing explicit sex scenes; if explicit sex scenes make you hit fast-forward, skip this series - because you will fast-forward through at least 1/3 of the books - otherwise, the murder mysteries are good!

I¡¯ve grown to like Beverly Barton more and more, and the Cherokee series is definitely one of my favorites!

The story telling used in her books is jaw dropping- I find myself engulfed in her stories as if I were watching a movie. I¡¯ve never found myself so immediately interested in a book before.

Now I must confess, I did not read the series in order. I actually read them backwards I think¡ oops! But they make sense even if you haven¡¯t read any of the series!

My one gripe about some books is too much detail in sex scenes. Now, these books aren¡¯t graphic in the sense of describing every second someone gets frisky but there are a few scenes that I honestly could have done without. Granted the torturing and castrating was pretty gruesome I tend to be more sensitive to smut. These books aren¡¯t too bad, and I¡¯ve found that the description ends just as I get too uncomfortable.

I also have to admit that half the time I zone out during those scenes. Or leave the room. Anyways, I¡¯ll stop rambling haha!

4 stars only because I don¡¯t love listening to someone read sex scenes. Language was decent, I don¡¯t think I heard any f bombs. But man. Does this author have talent!!

You Won't See it All Coming
This little town has a lot of character. And a lot of characters. It seems not all of them are fine, upstanding citizens, either. Some of them aren't so good at being faithful. Some simply spread unfounded gossip like bad margarine on good bread. Some have seriously twisted agendas. But each of them is interesting, intriguing, and unique.

As with the previous book in this series, the author has masterfully woven multiple plot points into a mind bending story. It's intense and raw, emotional and gripping. No matter what you think as you're reading or listening along, it's simply not possible to knit all these pieces together until the end. So sit back and enjoy this brain twister.

Well, this was a twisted tale. I think we all could have skipped the gruesome torture scenes. I feel like the author went a little overboard with her descriptions. The basic storyline was okay, and the author did a good job in keeping us guessing as to who the killer was. When Caleb was first introduced, I wanted him to be a bit more forceful in an Alpha kind of way than he actually turned out to be. I felt he was perfect for Jazzy in the beginning, but he let jealousy throw him off track for a moment. A good cast of supporting characters , plenty of scenes to keep you wanting to know what's coming next. Overall a good read. Now I want to know more about Jazzy and Reve, are they really sisters? So, it's on to the next book.

It was a little slow to begin, and then I had a difficult time finding a place to stop before I went to sleep because I was captivated. I briefly saw the first few lines of the couple reviews posted as I went to write this and have been reflecting on a comment I read about lack of character development. I have to disagree with the other reader. The author built the characters throughout the book and, rather than bombard the reader with a list of adjectives, circumstances were presented in a manner which the reader could draw sensible conclusions about the character from palpable circumstances.

I find that I enjoyed this book a bit more than the first one. Perhaps it¡¯s because I got used to the author¡¯s writing style. Who knows, but I liked this one more. The suspenseful side was even better in my opinion. While I more or less saw the plot twist coming, it wasn¡¯t obvious or anything. It was just one of my ¡°crazy theories¡± that turned out to be THE one.

Not a massive fan of the ending though. I hoped for more, romantically speaking. It felt rushed and summarized.

I will be starting book 3 now as I look forward to seeing more of these characters.

I was interested in the basic story line of these books but it really gets lost in all the over the top sex scenes. It reads more like a porno and I think the story gets lost. The characters are not very developed. In all the books in the series that I've read to this point there are an excessive amount of sex crazy women and they are all essentially the same character with different names. There are also a lot of them for such a small town. I skipped the sex scenes hoping to enjoy the story more but I'm feeling like I've had enough of this series. It just got dumb.

Well Damn Gina in my best Martin Lawrence voice. Talk about taking a ride on the crazy train. The murder were horrific, but considering this is someone who is riding on the crazy train, I won't say it wasn't a surprise. I knew it was Jazzy, but the hoops she had to jump through were heartbreaking. Being blamed for something you didn't evwn do and then to have people who liked you and frequented you business to turn on you like that cuts to the quick. Not to mention the secret your lover is carrying around.

THE LAST TO DIE

Enjoyable series, although I was confused by which book was first in the series- it isn't listed correctly on the series page- so now I'm going to read the first book.

The characters are great in this series, although it takes time for some of them to grow on you- Reve for example. Very good suspense thriller, great author.

The pain of abuse towards a child is very difficult to overcome, because at least it can make them timid and unable to be happy, but in some cases it can bring a thirst for revenge that culminates in savage murders.

This is the case of the book "The Last to Die: The Cherokee Pointe Series, Book 2" by Beverly Barton.

You can't leave it until it's done.

Things were going along decently until the 'relationship' got into swing, and then it went downhill quickly. We expect this to be romance when he refers to her as "my woman"? What kind of macho BS is that supposed to be? And this was written by a woman! I get that it was written almost 20 years ago, but it wasn't okay then either. More murdery, less "romance", thanks.

This is the second book in the murder mystery series. I enjoyed it as much as the first book. I like how the author took a different character from the first book and gave you a good insight into their life in the second. I know the third book is about a different character that was introduced in the first book. Again, the love story is a bit cheesy but over a good page turner.

The Last To Die: Beverly Barton

This is the second book I've read by this author. I love how she writes. This book follows Jazzy Talbot, a businesswoman and owner accused of murdering her ex-boyfriend. Who comes from big money in the town, and she comes from the wrong side. It was twist-turning and suspenseful the whole book. I can't wait to read the next one.

Another Book that could easily feel like a TV drama, including the use of a psychic. Who hated Jamie enough to kill him, well the list was long but to kill him in such a way was very different and the way all the evidence points to his former girlfriend also smacks of a deeper secret.

It was less interesting than the other two. However, I was really disappointed thinking I had already figured it all out early on and then ended up being wrong so that was good. I liked the bad guy in the other two books better.
