Get ready to enter a world of high-fashion and high-drama with a fabulous new fiction series inspired by the hit TV show America's Next Top Model
ALEXIS: With my red curls and blue eyes, I may seem like just another shy small-town girl. But I have some serious secrets up my sleeve.
CHLOE: I've inherited my supermodel mom's looks, and everyone expects me to follow in her Jimmy Choos. The catch? My wildest dreams have nothing to do with a runway.
LINDSAY: Just call me the comeback kid. I used to be a celeb, but my star power dimmed. Now, I'm hoping that my beauty, brains, and a little bit of backstabbing will make me famous again.
SHIVA-ROSE: As the exotic international girl, I've got mystery working in my favor. But will a crush on the wrong guy threaten my shot at winning?
Four very different sixteen-year-old girls find themselves among the forty girls admitted into Top Model Prep, an elite modeling school located in fashion central NYC. It might seem obvious that Chloe, coming from a family of supermodels, is destined to be the winner, even though she’d rather be at home with her boyfriend. But she’s got some fierce competition. Lindsay, a former child star, will do anything to get her fame back. Wild Alexis might be the one to steal the show, among other things. International Shiva-Rose just might be it, especially since her crush is someone on the inside. These girls are beautiful, but do they have what it takes to be at the top—or will they lose themselves along the way?
In all honesty, I didn’t expect much from this book or this series. As a first impression, Face Value seemed to be a lame takeoff from the hit TV show, America’s Next Top Model. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed the book. Although I’ve read several books before involving the modeling industry, its presentation in this book was fresh and interesting. As the story is set at a modeling academy, I actually learned along with the aspiring model characters more about fashion, hair and makeup, and, of course, the industry itself. Where this novel starts to take a dip for me is character development. It’s easy to get a general idea of who each of the characters is; Alexis is spontaneous and friendly, Lindsay is clever and driven, Chloe is withdrawn and sensitive, and Shiva-Rose is focused and moral. Still, there are little bits and pieces about each character’s background and personality that don’t quite fit the big picture, and that partially ruined any relationship I as the reader formed with the characters. Aside from that, Face Value is a quick and enjoyable read, filled with drama, romance, and tidbits about the life of the fashion elite.
The America’s Next Top Model series is sure to be enjoyed by fans of The Elite by Jennifer Banash, Violet on the Runway by Melissa Walker, and The A-List series by Zoey Dean.
Amazing!! You'd think it'd be all frufru and stuff, but it's not! There's a lot of drama, forbidden romance, jail threats, and much, much, more! I strongly recommend it to any girl who has ever watched MTV or Project Runway!
Embarrassed to have enjoyed this first book in a 4 piece series published by Scholastic over a decade ago. After bingewatching some old seasons of Top Model, I went looking for related books to read to break up the darker/heavier fiction I have a stack of/have been plowing through recently, and found these-- ordered all four from a used bookstore, and they're a little vapid and absolutely unrealistic, but also fun and entertaining-much like Top Model the show. The main difference is that these books are geared towards teens, and the characters are all high school aged girls, competing some competition that's half summer camp, half Top Model TV show knockoff. The four main characters are each distinctive enough so that their individual plot lines make sense. The first book is mostly an introduction and scene setting- Lindsay is a former child star, trying to make a comeback IA the fashion world, Alexis is a redhead from Hamtramck with a shoplifting problem and a shady family, Chloe I'd the daughter of a supermodel with high expectations of her daughter winning and following in her footsteps, and Shiva-Rose an intellectual Israeli beauty. The first are roommates and in this first book are figuring out who could be friends or foes, and if friendship is even possible when they're all vying for the same prize. Literature it is not, but the fun factor is high- the series reminds me of the Gossip Girl books. 3 stars, probably going to read all four in the next day or two (they're short- a 2-3 hour read Top for adults).
Four completely different girls, all wanting to be America's Next Top Model, were put in the same apartment for competition. Alexis seems like a sweet girl from a small-town, but what happened in her past, and what is it she keeps secret? Chloe doesn't want to be a model, her super-model mom wants her to be, though. She doesn't like the special treatment she gets because of who's daughter she is, Chloe wants people to think of her as herself. Lindsay was a celebrity, so now she's coming back to be famous through modeling. She will do anything to get to the top, and no roommates are going to stop her. And Shiva-Rose is from Israel wanting to win, so she can become a scientist, and not go back to Israel to be put in the army.
Another book fair pick and it was lame. I felt dumber for reading it. It is (surprise surprise) about four girls in a top model competition over the summer. There are four eliminations over the summer so I imagine there will be 4 books and the 4 roommates will be competing against each other but will have learned to be friends by then. I do like one of the characters because she shoplifts. I don't know why, but I guess she felt more real than the others. If you know any empty, vapid girls who like fashion then they will like this book.
I really like this book. My favorite character was Chloe. At first I thought that Chloe was going to be a bit stuck up but she turns out to be very nice and someone I would totally want to know. I think this is one of the first books where I like majority of the characters. I like the story and I think it is a lot better than the show. At first I was a bit apprehensive about the series but I found myself wanting to read more and stick it out to see who the winner is. :)
tried reading L.A. Candy as it was super popular with students this year, but couldn't make it past 1st chapter. Librarian suggested this book instead. Don't think I'll be finishing the series, but I do think some middle schoolers will enjoy it, so for that reason, glad I read it.
I finished the book and it was AMAZING!!! It was so gooooooooooooood. It is not girly at all which I excpected it to be. It's only a tad bit girly. but still - the book is AMAZING!!
This book shows hatred between 4 girls. They are in America's Next Top Model and have to learn how to become a team for group photoshoots. There is crime, drama, and relationship problems, which makes this book so hamds on and you never want to put it down
