As I was listening to the audio of #Nerd, the thought that kept running through my head was ‘this would make a fantastic movie�. In fact, it reminded me of a lot of those movies we watch where the hot guy on campus falls for the geek etc. Even if it wasn’t the most original story line ever, it was still a super enjoyable read.
Rimmel studying to be a veterinarian. She’s a nerd who keeps to herself. She spends most of her time studying and volunteering at the local animal shelter. As a condition of her full scholarship, Rim is told she has to tutor another student. Not just any student, Roman ‘Romeo� Anderson. The quarterback of the football team and hottest guy on campus.
Romeo needs to keep his grades up so he can keep playing football. His goal is to make it in the NFL. Right now, he’s pledging to a frat that will help him get there. Rimmel and Romeo butt heads at first, but as time goes on, they start to like each other. Then there is the frat, the challenges, and things get very messy.
Romeo and Rimmel were both great characters. I loved that Rimmel didn’t fawn all over Romeo like every other girl on campus. I also loved that Romeo stuck to his guns and ended up being the type of guy she deserved. This was a fun new adult read and I’m looking forward to reading more about Rimmel, Romeo and his bestie Braden!

#4 HELLCAT Stars
The story line is NOTHING NEW. In fact, I have lost count on how many times I have read a book about the star football player needing help in their school work and falling for his smart, unnoticed, tutor. The story even has a Gossip Girl type called the BuzzBoss, and our hero’s known on campus as Romeo, short for Roman. So there you have it, a ton of aspects we have watched and/or read before but still I LIKED this book.
Roman “Romeo� Andersen is the star quarterback for the Wolves at Alpha U (snicker). Romeo is a likable hero although he gets around with the girls on campus, he’s just the right mix of arrogant and nice.
”Everyone calls you Romeo for a reason.�
I opened my mouth, but she held up her hand to say, “And it’s not because it’s a variation of your actual name.�
I grinned. “You noticed that, huh?�
Romeo's coach sets him up with Rimmel for tutoring. I really like Rimmel she is a lovable heroine. She’s studying to be a veterinarian and hides behind a mop of dark hair, sweats, and big black rimmed glasses. Her reasons for her appearance were original and I liked her backstory.
Romeo is pledging the big fraternity and the head of the frat is a total ass who has it out for Romeo. Along the list of things he must complete is sleeping with a girl of Zach’s choosing who turns out to be our very own Rimmel. The more Romeo gets to know Rimmel the more he sees when he looks at her.
”And she was always falling over. Her clothes looked like sacks, she freaking snorted when she laughed, and her hair� She is beautiful.�
Rimmel and Romeo’s fall into love isn’t instant and to me they have the lasting power. Image my surprise when finishing the story that the next two books are about them?? It seems Zach has a lot of hate and he has plans on revenge. Still this could totally be a standalone story and if you’re in the mood for another tutor and quarterback tale then give this one go!

I have two weaknesses when it comes to my romance; a current military man in uniform/veteran, and a sports jock who needs to be knocked down a peg or two by a woman, who then proceeds to rock his world. Well, this is the latter of the two.
Romeo, a quite fitting name by the way, is the most popular, most gorgeous guy on campus and quarterback of the college football team. He has his pick of willing girls and is always ready to take full advantage of them. Problem is his academic grades are suffering and his coach assigns him a tutor.
Known as “the NERD,� Rimmel is an intelligent young woman who has one goal in mind; study hard and get her degree to become a veterinarian. She doesn’t have friends to speak of and tends to lay low, hidden beneath layers of too big, bulky clothing, rimmed glasses and long hair that covers most of her face.
Romeo and Rimmel stole my heart in this fast-paced, sizzling sweet YA/NA romance. I am off to read the next in the series as I enjoyed it so much.

In this modern day love story (luckily with less deaths than the real Romeo’s story), Rimmel is a shy girl, who he’s more interested in animals, classes and books than into college parties, clothes and college football games.
So when she has to tutor Romeo, the college’s golden boy, football prodigy and heartthrob, neither of them s very happy with the prospect.
Until they start to know each other, best being made and things suddenly become more that they were supposed to.
But when two worlds so different suddenly collide, could they survive the crash?
I’m going to be honest: I had this book on my TBR for months now. But since I’ve been sating away from NA from the moment they all started to look the same, I’ve been ignoring this series. I’m so glad I came to my senses and finally decided to read it.
Funny, sweet, emotional, suspenseful (yes, the are some real action here� not just the one you’re thinking about) , sexy and okay� a little predictable, this book were freaking amazing. I loved Romeo and Rimmel together and how cute they were as a couple.
Definitely, one of my favorite NA books. And I’ve read a lot of them. Onto to the next ones, now!!

Characters Development: I don’t know who I liked more. Rimmel, the sweet geeky girl that doesn’t always belong and we can all relate to, or Romeo, the golden hearted sexy boy that despite his mistakes, knew what he wanted and went after it, to hell with consequences. I loved how protective and sweet he was with Rimmel, and how relaxed and funny Rimmel was with him. Braeden was freaking amazing, I loved him as well.

#Nerd is the comedic story of Rimmel and Romeo. When Rimmel is told she is supposed to tutor the star football player and campus star Romeo, she’s not exactly thrilled. Rimmel blends into the background as much as she can, hiding behind her long hair and her baggy clothing. When Romeo meets Rimmel, he’s not impressed and doesn’t take her seriously. On top of that, Romeo is rushing a frat, one that is ruthless. And they now want him to sleep with Rimmel as a part of his initiation.
“You asked me why I'm here," he murmured, leaning in so he was so close his lips brushed mine as he spoke. "This is why I'm here, Rimmel. Can't you feel it too?"
I really enjoyed this book. It may be predictable, sweet and a little bit cliché, but it all WORKED. Rimmel is a character I fell in love with, her insecurities, her feelings of loneliness, and then watching her bloom into a beautiful young lady. Rimmel’s transformation was my favorite part of the book. Romeo ended up being a great hero, he didn’t get off to a great start with me, but by the end of the book I was rooting for him.
If you are looking for a great break from reality, this is the book for you. I cannot wait to read the rest of the books in this series, as this one was so much fun.

Where has this series been all my life?? Ok so it's nothing new, hot jock meets nerd blah blah blah, but I literally ate this book up. It was just the perfect feel good book with lovable characters and plenty of college drama. I didn't realise going in that it was an actual series, but now I have had time to think about it I am glad that it is, because not only were the two main characters so cute together, but there was plenty of other stuff going on in the background that has the potential to be a really good ongoing storyline.
I highly recommend this to lovers of this kind of trope, it was fabulous!

5 I-LOVED-IT stars
This book may be like the typical YA/NA romances but I really LOVED IT! !
It took me back to the time when I started my reading obsession ! When I read these books that makes you tummy full of butterflies or makes your heart hurt because of the angst.. so, YES , I really loved every minute of the story!
Do you remember Hermione from Harry Potter? With her wild hair, sassy attitude and big brain? Well let's say that our heroine here is Hermione number two!
Rimmel (I love her name!) is the nerd in Alpha U who needs to be a tutor of the biggest football star in the college - Roman a.k.a Romeo (I love both of his names, FYI!)..
She is clearly not thrilled about this idea but she decided to take the job and do what she needs to do!
Their first encounter wasn't the best and they both thought that this whole tutor thing will be boring or frustrating. But Rimmel was unbreakble with her rules of their tutor time and she actually wanted to help him, in favor, of course, for her to end this thing earlier.
Romeo is the big star which goal is to go in NFL, enjoy life and have fun with girls here and there and partying with friends.. he never thought that he would meet his tutor, she will be a sassy nerd and that he would .. FALL IN LOVE WITH HER!
It all started with a little game but it became something bigger really fast!
When they started to talk to each other, beside studying, they felt the connection they shared. They had fun together, their sexual tension was unbearable but the most important thing was that they see through each other. See the true person underneath the surface! They weren't just The famous golden boy and The nerd .. they were just people attracted to each other, wanted to explore more things together, to feel alive ..
Rimmel was an amazing character. Behind her glasses and baggy clothes she was so real, honest and a little broken person. She had been through hell in so early age but she managed to fight for her dreams, but still feel alone. Meeting Romeo unlocked something the both of them had locked for so long. Their love was so sweet, utterly heart-warming and panties-wetting. They had passion, they had motivation to be them selves with each other. They brought the best of them when they were together!
When the things go down, it may be a teeny weeny predictable but I still felt like I was the smartest person in the room knowing what is going to happen!
I was glad, so glad , that Romeo was man enough to fight for what is his and don't gave up! They were so cute and adorable!
I really can't wait to read more about them!

Hmm. I didn't hate it? But I didn't exactly love it either. It was more of an 'eh, okay' kind of feeling. It was cliche, but it's not the reason I didn't fall for it. Sometimes it's fun to read those kinds of books. It was a light and quick read, with some drama there that I ate up, and just what I was looking for considering my mood. I agree with the others that this would make a fun movie.
Rimmel, a scholarship student/walking hazard, isn't exactly thrilled when she's assigned to tutor a varsity star like Romeo, but she has no choice but to suck it up. And Romeo didn't exactly sign up for this, but since his coach and the dean need the star player to stay on the team, off to the library he goes.
On top of that, Romeo might have a chance to get in the best fraternity on campus—the fraternity his father and grandfather were part of—but the president is making it hard for him to get in. Romeo gets the hardest tasks to do, but the worst is he has to sleep with "the nerd" and show them the proof to get in. At first, the bet was nothing to him, but then he got to know Rimmel and started to actually like like her, and he isn't sure if it's all worth it anymore.
As a person who's been labeled a NERD a few times when I was in college, especially one who wears dark-rimmed glasses and has wild hair like Rimmel, I wasn't sure I completely liked the path it went to? Although I guess it was cute that Romeo started liking her even before the whole mini-makeover thing. But the whole thing where she ties her hair up and suddenly he sees she's gorgeous kind of made me roll my eyes. There were also sexist stuff in there that just made me cringe. Example below:
It's an enjoyable enough read reminiscent of flicks like High School Musical and The DUFF (the movie, not the book), and if you're a fan of new adult romances where the shy girl ends up with the popular jock, you might enjoy this more like others did. I thought the ending felt a bit rushed, but I found out Rimmel and Romeo's story goes on in #Hater. The jury is still out on whether I'm going to read it. We'll see.

I thought the ending felt a bit rushed, but I found out Rimmel and Romeo's story goes on in #Hater. The jury is still out on whether I'm going to read it. We'll see.

I mean really?? The first time we meet him, he was the most arrogant jerk ever and not even in a good way. I mean, he ditched the h to get a bj from OW and the h saw them! Like tf? One thing I cannot stand is when an H is with OW in any form of intimacy after meeting the h. My fave author is Kristen Ashley and she has done this before but at least it wasn’t as descriptive and the h didn’t see it! (ex: Motorcyle Man). And he even made out with h’s roommate... yeah I just wanted to smack this H in the beginning.

I actually enjoyed this book! The H became more likeable and he was actually really sweet and I semi forgot about what he did when h and him first met. There were tons of cute moments too and I’m a sucker for those.

4.5 How cute is this book Stars
This is my second book by this author and I didn’t have any expectations, but after reading #nerd, I must say, I’m really liking this light-hearted direction.
I will keep up with this series and if you want a sweet, funny and charming book, then this one is for you
Yes, some of it is a bit cliché and the term “nerd� doesn’t really apply to college setting anymore, but if you can get past all of that, it’s a really ADORABLE book.
This is for all those nerdy, glasses wearing, no make-up girls **cough** me. Love my black frame glasses and I loved that Rimmel wears them.
Summary
So Rimmel is not a popular girl and she doesn’t care to be. She wears frumpy clothes, she doesn’t wear make-up or does her hair. She’s lives in the dorm and her priority is school. Roman (Romeo) is the big man on campus. He’s the star football player and everyone loves him. He is rushing to be part of an exclusive fraternity his father was once a part of. Romeo’s grades aren’t that great and with the threat of being kicked off the team, his coach is forcing Romeo to get a tutor.
Rimmel is Romeo’s tutor
Rimmel doesn’t want to tutor Romeo, but in order to maintain her scholarship, she has to do it. Rimmel and Romeo are two complete opposites, but somehow they forge a friendship, even though everyone around them thinks it’s crazy.
Overall
I love the plot. Who doesn’t like the jocky popular guy falling for the nerdy outcast girl? It’s really cute! I love how Rimmel doesn’t show any interest towards Romeo and is simply there to tutor him. The banter is adorable and it kept a smile on my face. I love that girls are jealous of Rimmel because she gets attention from Romeo . I like that Romeo’s best guy friend is really supportive and he makes jokes that make me laugh.
In order for Romeo to be considered into the fraternity, he has to do all the tasks he is asked to do. One of the tasks is to sleep with a girl of the fraternity’s choosing. Guess who they pick?
It’s a little typical, but it’s a subplot that lingers in the background. Of course this is the main factor for Romeo’s pursuit towards Rimmel, but it grows to something more. I really liked reading Romeo’s internal struggles with this.
Overall, I enjoyed #nerd a lot because it has the fun-feel-good story I crave. It may be a little predictable, but every once in a while, you need that.

#NERD is about the “plain jane�, Rimmie, with the academic scholarship who is given the job of tutoring the star athlete, Romeo. Romeo is pledging as a legacy of his father's fraternity and has to meet certain requirements to make it as a member. One of his requirement involves Rimmie and it pushes the limit too far for Romeo.
I enjoyed listening to this and look forward to continuing on to see where Rimmie and Romeo's story leads.

3.5 Hashtag, College and Life Stars

We all have read these stories before... He is a football star on campus... she is nerd/goth/outcast (pick your choice) and somehow they have to do something together against their will. This had the cute premise and I dove in.
From the start there was a way with how the story unfolded... a feeling about our gal... she had a past which was hinted but not explained at first. Her withdrawal from everyone but the animals she cared for at the pound was the result of this damage. She even related to a one-eyed cat which never seemed to get adopted. Murphy was her touchstone... coming and caring for him made her feel whole somehow. She was on scholarship to become a Veterinarian and related better to animals than people. She was smart; kept to herself... dressed without vanity. She was there to do her schooling and reach her goal.
She is called in to tutor the big man on campus, Romeo... star football player and shining light. All men want to be his "bro" and all girls just want him. He is charming; driven to make the NFL and grade wise... in the toilet. His coach and Dean of the school have decided he is going to be tutored 3 times a week. He is too valuable to the team and school to sit out due to grades. The law has been laid down.
Romeo also is rushing for the Omegas... the most influential frat on campus. His dad and coach were part of it; there are NFL contacts who were part of it... it is expected of him to be accepted so this is his goal too. The only problem is the president of the frat, Zach, has a bug up his a## about Romeo... cannot stand him and is out to make it impossible for him to pass the rush. We learn of all the ways the frat is expecting these newbies to be tested and let's just say... they will win no prizes from me.
Romeo has his own crosses to bear... yes, he comes from an affluent family; yes, he is given all the material things a person could want. But it comes across like he may not be receiving the type of care and love from his family he wished he had... he is expected to perform. His mother seems to only care about appearances and what others think... and his dad is sort of the same way.
He does love the team and his bros and players... they are really more of his family. He goes to meet Rimmel, his tutor at the library. She is cloaked in her usual oversized, nondescript clothes with her hair long, thick, and working as a shield...With black-framed glasses on her face, he can hardly see her through all of that. He sits and she starts to lay the law down... rules of how he must not be late or flirt with her or anything.
These two are together... circling in worlds so far apart... but as they interact... sparks and wishes start to develop... she tries to remain unfeeling for him... knowing he is trouble for her. He is curious and then challenged to get to know her... there are so many reasons as to why this is not a good idea...but challenges have been made and he never backs down...
This has the cute factor; the outcast turning into a beauty. We travel through our new obsession with hashtag this and hashtag that... it is used as a guide to what is happening all the time.
There was a moment when I almost decided this was not for me... but the talent of our author took me by the hand and lead me through it... There were the usual moments we expect with college dramas... but we also were given smart communication and not knee jerk overly angsty manipulations... things moved and we were given people who were able to communicate with each other. It was a win-win for me. Also, we had very sweet sexy times for the college ages and insight into how so many things can shape us as a youngster.
The secondary characters rounded out the experience and they added a good balance. The story will continue and it is planned for #2015.

So, I'm late to the game with this one. I wasn't sure at first, even though the writing sucked me in immediately, it's full of all the cliched things that are already out there. Everyone is OTT hot, wanted, mean, the dreaded challenge or bet...etc. My anxiety was cranked up a notch or four, waiting for the other shoe to drop. But with some encouragement from my buddy, Janie, I kept going.
For obvious reasons, (if you read the book you know what I mean) I did not like Roman at first. He was a cocky ass manwhore. But he grew on me. I began to see him change. His priorities changed...his attitude changed. Aww.....and at the end...what he did...yeah, he's becoming who he should be.
I absolutely LOVED Rimmel. I love nerdy, unsure heroines. I love to see them "get the guy" and be treated like they deserve. I liked that in the beginning she really didn't put up with Roman's shit either. I was happy that she came out of her shell and started to let people in. I could totally be friends with a girl like that.
So, even though I might need to make me some calming tea now, I did enjoy the book and seeing them come together as a couple. On to book 2!

I don't mind cliche characters as long as they have a little color in them to make them even just a little bit different.
But Rimmel is a gray cardboard cutout of a nerdy female with glasses and Romeo is a gray cardboard cutout of a manwhore who likes football.
They're not even white and black, because Rimmel and Romeo aren't striking enough to own those colors.
Another thing that irked me was Romeo's lack of respect for girls who openly want him. Now, I don't mind the slut-shaming; he can think whatever he wants of them. What I strongly dislike, however, is a hypocrite.
In reality, it made me respect her. Most girls fell all over themselves to give me the answer I wanted to hear. If I had asked anybody else to go with me, they would have said yes before I was done asking.
Also, it's so unrealistic for the entire female population - except Rimmel - in school to want Romeo for themselves. No matter how hot a guy is, not every single girl would fall over themselves to be with said hot guy. Plus, what happens when another girl doesn't chase you while madly screaming your name to take her top off for you? Are you going to be as crazy about her as you are about Rimmel?
Lastly, I think Hebert tried to develop Rimmel's character a little more towards the end.
I started rebelling. I was only twelve, but I acted a lot older. I started wearing all this makeup and obsessing over my hair. I'd cut my shorts super short [...] I had a lot of anger and rage. [...] [My dad] would throw out my skimpy clothes and refused to buy me make up. I'd find ways to get it anyway. I'd wait 'til he left and put it all on.
Unfortunately, it was completely random and it didn't feel like Rimmel at all. It was just injected into Rimmel's monologue out of the blue. When did this past ever shine through in Rimmel? I'm sure 99% of readers would have forgotten this part about her a few days after finishing the book. Her little rebellion is never alluded to in the course of the book, but how I wish it were! It would have made her boring character much more bearable to read about.
Plus 0.5 stars for the black one-eyed cat, but that's it!

4 #NerdIsTheNewSexy Stars
Meet Rimmel. Future veterinarian. #Nerd. She has been given a "job" to maintain her scholarship, and she is not pleased. She must tutor Roman Anderson three days a week in the school's library. The college football star is failing and everyone is freaking out. He is the best of the best and they can't afford to lose him this season. Being socially-awkward and standoffish, Rimmel has her work cut out for her. Getting through to Mr. Perfect isn't going to be easy.
Enter Romeo. Quarterback. #Sexonastick. He had been putting so much effort into football and rushing for the frat, Omegas, that his grades had plummeted. He isn't thrilled about studying in the library every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday but he would do it. Although, Rimmel was definitely a surprise. He never knew someone so clumsy and nerdy could be so intriguing. When the Omegas involve her in a challenge Romeo must complete to join the frat, he is all game. It gets harder and harder to complete the quest when he starts to learn about the girl with the wild hair and frumpy clothes. Can he really do that to her?
“You asked me why I'm here," he murmured, leaning in so he was so close his lips brushed mine as he spoke. "This is why I'm here, Rimmel. Can't you feel it too?"
I read a review that said that this book would be awesome as a movie and I agree! It actually made me think of One Tree Hill - only with football instead of basketball. Nathan and Haley, anyone? #couplegoals
This was so super close to being a 5 star book for me. The only thing that brought it down a few notches was that it was so predictable. I kept waiting for Cambria to sneak in a shocking moment or twisty-turn, but it never happened. |sad face| Overall, it was a sugary sweet and ridiculously cute read. If that is your cuppa, then this book is for you.

I'm losing my patience with New Adult. Okay, to be fair, I started losing that a long time ago. Around the time when I first read about a hero that is supposed to be sexy for being abrasive, arrogant, overconfident, rude, and a complete ignorant moron. And our hero of this story, well, he is all that.
The plot: Socially inept geeky girl Rimmel is forced to tutor failing handsome jock Romeo. When Romeo wants to join a frat, he must accomplish an assignment, which happens to be to sleep with Rimmel. Not the most original plot, but I'll take it.
It is, however, painfully awkward to read this story. To be honest, few NA stories that take place at college actually manage to capture what it's like to actually go to college. It is not like high school with it's cliques and "the popular crowd", and you sure as hell aren't looked down upon for actually studying. Which, of course, is how it's done in this book. It felt like high school kids playing wannabe college kids. That feeling is reinforced what with Romeo being the school's "celebrity" and everyone knows his business. I don't buy it. Sorry, but I want a story that take place at college and portray a realistic setting of one.
Which brings us back to our main characters. I won't spend too much time on our heroine who's a walking stereotype of a nerd. Geeky, clumsy, pays no attention to her appearance, blushing... you get it. That didn't change throughout the book. So... Romeo. Introducing the moron:
I wasn’t used to girls trying to get away from my touch. “Are you a lesbian?�
She probably was a virgin. I mean, look at her.
The Wolves were my family. We watched each other’s backs and we didn’t try to break down one of our over petty jealousy shit.
That shit was for women.
I was not amused by his antics. I especially did not care for his little stunt in the end, which, I will rage about in the spoiler.
Rant aside, I was not amused by this book. Not in the least. And yeah, it's mostly Romeo's fault. And a little bit because we're supposed to have a nerdy girl (I consider being a nerd something positive), but yet there's no geeky jokes or anything like that. Just a walking stereotype, and I've had enough of those to last a lifetime.

This was one ridiculously moreish read; I literally couldn’t put it down.
In all honesty, there was nothing all that original about this college themed NA story or its characters � hell, I’m sure most romance readers have read variations of this trope time and time again � yet I found myself completely immersed by this particular take on the age-old nerd/jock romantic pairing.
Even though I found this story to be extremely addictive in nature, I’ll admit at the beginning I wasn’t all that sure I’d like MC Roman “Romeo� Anderson, with his outwardly cocky attitude, top-shit jock mindset, and man-whoring ways. My apprehension didn’t last very long, though, thank goodness. It was in the way Roman expressed his growing (and believably authentic) feelings for nerd-girl Rimmel, and the way he took no shit from the big bad frat boy bullies, which ultimately earned him major brownie points and mad respect from me.
Rimmel is a whole other story. There was never a single moment I didn’t love this girl � with the exception of my disdain for her ridiculous name (which isn’t really her fault, I guess). She was nerdy, unpopular and didn’t put much effort (if any) into her appearance, but she certainly wasn’t the usual naïve and meek female MC one usually equates with this kind of character archetype. Even though Roman’s confidence and drop-dead-sexy good looks rattled Rimmel, as is expected, she never let him get away with any of his usual bullshit and wasn’t easily won over by his effortless charm. She made him work for it and I loved that.
Featuring a relationship that technically started off as a bet, this story surprisingly never made me nervous or uncomfortable like I often get when reading storylines revolving around this kind of deceit. Maybe the light nature of the narrative and the easy going way the characters interacted played a part in easing my mind some, but I never once worried that Roman’s developing feelings for Rimmel weren’t 100% authentic or that he wouldn’t ultimately do the right thing by her. In fact, when I think about it, this story didn’t really have any of that unnecessary, OTT drama one usually expects when this kind of romance trope is being used. Rimmel and Roman were both bright, warm, good people, and these traits carried through into their relationship and made for a truly sweet and sexy romantic read.
I’ll be diving into the sequel toot sweet because I just realised Rimmel and Roman’s story continues for several books across the Hashtag series. More is always better in my books.
This was one ridiculously moreish read; I literally couldn’t put it down.
In all honesty, there was nothing all that original about this college themed NA story or its characters � hell, I’m sure most romance readers have read variations of this trope time and time again � yet I found myself completely immersed by this particular take on the age-old nerd/jock romantic pairing.
Even though I found this story to be extremely addictive in nature, I’ll admit at the beginning I wasn’t all that sure I’d like MC Roman “Romeo� Anderson, with his outwardly cocky attitude, top-shit jock mindset, and man-whoring ways. My apprehension didn’t last very long, though, thank goodness. It was in the way Roman expressed his growing (and believably authentic) feelings for nerd-girl Rimmel, and the way he took no shit from the big bad frat boy bullies, which ultimately earned him major brownie points and mad respect from me.
Rimmel is a whole other story. There was never a single moment I didn’t love this girl � with the exception of my disdain for her ridiculous name (which isn’t really her fault, I guess). She was nerdy, unpopular and didn’t put much effort (if any) into her appearance, but she certainly wasn’t the usual naïve and meek female MC one usually equates with this kind of character archetype. Even though Roman’s confidence and drop-dead-sexy good looks rattled Rimmel, as is expected, she never let him get away with any of his usual bullshit and wasn’t easily won over by his effortless charm. She made him work for it and I loved that.
Featuring a relationship that technically started off as a bet, this story surprisingly never made me nervous or uncomfortable like I often get when reading storylines revolving around this kind of deceit. Maybe the light nature of the narrative and the easy going way the characters interacted played a part in easing my mind some, but I never once worried that Roman’s developing feelings for Rimmel weren’t 100% authentic or that he wouldn’t ultimately do the right thing by her. In fact, when I think about it, this story didn’t really have any of that unnecessary, OTT drama one usually expects when this kind of romance trope is being used. Rimmel and Roman were both bright, warm, good people, and these traits carried through into their relationship and made for a truly sweet and sexy romantic read.

October 24, 2023Dnf 37 mins in to this book. I mean really. The jock needs help with school work or he is off the team and he shows up late like Rimmel has nothing better to do than wait for him. Then he doesn't pay a lick of attention stands up a few mins after he was suppose to be studying and goes to the back of the library with some other chick and gets a blow job while our heroine waits for him. What a rude ass nasty disrespectful pos douchebag. I don't even care that he was with another woman as long as the h/h aren't together that stuff doesn't really bother me but the hero's loser attitude turned me off. Now I hate his ass. 30 mins in and he got me hatin his ass.

I’ve wanted to reread #Nerd for a long time, because I LOVE Rimmel and Romeo, individually and as a couple. They are one of my favorite couples ever and they always will be. I love it when a nerd and a popular guy fall in love. I wasn’t Romeo’s biggest fan in the beginning, but I slowly fell in love with him. He’s an amazing, protective, sporty and caring man who loves Rimmel like she is. Rimmel is intelligent, sweet, caring, clumsy and a little closed off. She loves animals and loves taking care of them. Rimmel isn’t sure what to think about Romeo’s interest in her, but Romeo genuinely likes her and she starts to see his good side. The author never rushed anything between them. Everything felt right.

Meh.
That is all I can really think to describe this book. This was not a world premiere of any kind, it was a book filled to the brim with worn clichés and familiar characters but the writing was okay (if not slightly on the simplistic side) and it ended up being a little bit of a guilty pleasure. I knew that this book wasn’t going to be spectacular in any way but sometimes a girl needs her clichés, and jock/nerd (embarrassingly lol, what can I say?) is one of my favourites.
The overall premise of this book is that Rimmel is forced to tutor her colleges� lead athlete in order to keep her scholarship, which honestly was my first issue. It’s extremely unrealistic to think that the Dean would blackmail a student who had earned her scholarship and done nothing to put it jeopardy. But all in the name of drama, and I right?
I often rolled my eyes some of the ridiculous drama that went on but it was cheesy and cute, and I am a sucker for cheez.
In the beginning I thought I would hate the chauvinistic and egotistical asshole that was Romeo but his character eventually redeemed himself (only slightly though). I still think that his character was kind of an asshole but then again, he was a twenty-year-old rich, privileged frat boy. I didn’t really expect much else.
He repeatedly insulted Rimmel for her looks and used her to complete a hazing challenge for a frat. Eventually he began to redeem himself but I doubt he will ever be a favourite character of mine, too self-absorbed and too much of an asshole.
Rimmel. My biggest issue with her was her name, it had me thinking ‘get the London look� the entire book lmao
She was the typical nerd character—meek, socially inept, book smart but didn’t posses much real life smarts and horribly hideous until she started to wear her hair up and let people change her appearance.
Honestly, the more I write about all my issues and the lack of real plot points, it makes me want to rate this much lower than I have but I can’t over look the fact that I did enjoy this book. If I ever reread it, I might end up lowering the rating but at this moment, I was in the mood for a crappy college romance, no shame.
I do not recommend this is you’re looking for a well constructed college romance, with well defined and unique characters but if you’re in the mood for a light, guilty pleasure cliché, you’ll probably enjoy this! This was short book that I managed to read all in one sitting, it took me maybe two hours max.
Overall I think the first half of this book was worth maybe one star, it was boring and predictable but the second half was worth three stars. I’m probably going to be reading the second book in this series because it’s on Kindle Unlimited and I’m slightly curious to see how the author strings this seeming standalone into a whole long series about one couple.

In a word... #meh
Some parts I liked. Others less so.
There were several cliches on offer in this nerd/jock romance. You know the drill: she's super smart, he gets saddled with her because his grades suck, one thing leads to another e.g. she starts wearing nicer clothes and fixing her hair...
And she's suddenly TRANSFORMED in his eyes into a beauty the likes of which not seen since Helen of Troy which reduce him to his baser alphaness. I'm surprised he didn't pee on her to mark his territory. Instead he claimed her with his football hoodie complete with his name and jersey number on the back which she was instructed to wear 24/7.
It's cute enough, if predictable. The relationship escalates really quickly. Too quickly, IMO. I needed a minute before he turned from shilly-shallying shitster who runs through the ladies like a knife through butter to über possessive and loyal alpha boyfriend.
The conflict was melodramatic as was all the frat stuff. There were also some things said that had my hackles hackle-ing and if I had to get the exact low-down on one more outfit of Rimmel's...
The most dreadful part was Chandra Skyye's narration, though. Oy vey. She is so robotic and stiff she made R2D2 look like Daniel Day Lewis FFS. She also has the range of a teaspoon. Truly dreadful. Eric Michael Summerer was better but he didn't set my soul on fire either. And I was saddened to find out she narrates the majority of the series all but guaranteeing that I will not be carrying on with the series in audio format. Perhaps in the written form.
It's not terrible but I was expecting to like it more and found myself waffling between 2-3 stars (I'll round up. #nice) but YMMV.

What a lovely surprise this was. A friend recommended the series to me and after being left in a total book fog I wanted something different to read and NA was far from what I had just read. I’m so glad I dived into #Nerd.
Whilst the story is not new and I’ve read it all before, this one was different. Different in that the angst was kept on the low, both Romeo and Rimmel were mature about the problems they faced and overcame. So no ridiculous manufactured dramatics here. Both of them were real and hence believable and I really liked that, it so worked for me. Another win was that although Rimmel had major trust issues because of events in her past, she kept it on the down low and didn’t bemoan her fate.
I loved the slow burn of their romance, no insta love here which made their romance all the more real.
That said, I didn’t realise when I started this book that Romeo and Rimmel’s story was a trilogy, if I had known I probably wouldn’t have committed to read it and would have missed out on this great little read that was a fab start to a series I have every intention of completing. Whilst this could be read as a standalone, the ending is a tad rushed which I'm sure will be fleshed out in the next book.

#Nerd is the usual "jock meets awkward girl, love ensues" plot. When this trope is executed well, I enjoy it, but the characterization is so stupidly done here that I almost pulled my hair out. You see, Rimmel (rolls eyes...why not name her Maybelline or Revlon?*) is so fucking boring, humorless, bumbling, dumb and self conscious. Who THE HELL would want to be her friend, let alone date her? She has NO CONFIDENCE in anything whatsoever so to think that the most popular boy in school would set his eyes on her is totally ludicrous.
* is a brand of UK cosmetics.
Although Rimmel is supposed to be this smart scholarship student, she's dumb as fuck. Because what would you call somebody who's constantly surprised that the weather is colder in Maryland than in Florida? Or who wears clothing so large that she's constantly stumbling and falling?
It happened like 6 or 7 times in the first few chapters of the book. That's not cute, it's fucking annoying!
Rimmel goes on and on about how when people look at her, they only see the exterior but why do you think she's attracted to the QB? Because he's HOT! Not one time has she commented on his personality or temperament or even showed some interest on him as a person. She's only concerned about his eyes and his great abs! You fucking hypocrite!
The only mildly interesting about her is that she volunteers in an animal shelter but she doesn't do it because she loves animals but because "they don't judge you". WRONG! Cats WILL judge you!
And let's not talk about Romeo, the eye-rolling nickname, his snobbish parents and the stupid fraternity plot. Being an elite athlete is fucking hard specially if you have ambitions of playing professionally. It's not all physical talent, you know, QBs are expected to be fucking smart! How can you expect to memorize hundreds of plays when you cannot even pass English? Why waste your time doing stupid pranks that could jeopardize your supposed dream?
I wouldn't have minded Rimmel's "shyness" or style choices or awkwardness if she had something else going for her. She could have even rocked the bag lady outfit if it would have been a style choice (it's been done before, see below) instead of a way for her to fake-hide from the world.
Yes, I say fake-hide because the way to be invisible is NOT to dress so hideously that everybody can't help but notice you.
I'll end up this review asking authors to PLEASE stop pretending that all women need to do to get a great guy is to have a pulse. I'm tired of sleeping beauty heroines who are waiting for the hunk to wake them up. I want multi-faceted heroines with weaknesses AND strengths. Make me BELIEVE that there's something about her that's so fucking awesome that the guy who has everything knows there's nobody else for him.

Re listened for the umpteenth time :p
I am not good at this review stuff.. I am a total fan and want everyone to read because you will fall in love with this love story. I have read a lot of books in my day. This book is going to be one of my very top favorites. Rimmel is so relate able and Romeo wow smoking hot yummy delicious. How can you not like a book with all that yummyness. I totally loved that Rimmel didn't take now guff from Romeo like the whole book she stood up for her self even if it made her uncomfortable. And I love how she did that same with Ivy. And in the end it worked out in her favor. I think this quote melted me to the bone.
"I love your glasses, your clumsiness, your wild hair, even the way you snort when you laugh."
Who wouldn't want to read a book with this in it! Sigh now where can I get me a sweatshirt with Romeo #24 on it! ;)

Tutor and a jock. Just what the doctor ordered.
I won't be continuing with the series, however. I'm just not a type of reader who can read more than one book about the same couple, unless there's a cliffy.
