The Power of 8 Billion: It’s Up to Us

Rate this book
The Power of 8 It’s Up to Us is centered on two important premises.

1. Why Gratitude is More Important Than Hope.
2. How tapping into the Power of 8 Billion People leading greener lives is the solution for healing our planet.

The book breaks down the statistics, offers science-based solutions from leading authorities, and challenges each of us to put this new knowledge into action. The Power of 8 Billion also presents inspiring stories of individuals, organizations and metropolises around the world who are coming together to replant rainforests, sequester carbon, reduce their own CO2 footprint, power the grid with renewables, and promote micro mobility and mass transportation solutions.

As author Natalie Pace points out, “Concern for the environment and the ramifications of our actions are nothing new. Wasteful habits just became too easy and convenient, and the propaganda and misinformation too prevalent and effective.

In the Introduction, Natalie explains why gratitude is more important than hope.

When we are grateful for something, we treasure it. We treat it differently. That is why gratitude is more important than hope today. Each one of us treasuring our home planet, and placing Earth’s health at the forefront of all of our choices , including whether or not to drink and toss a disposable coffee cup, has the power to promote rapid reductions in CO2 emissions and carbon sequestration. We co-created a world with too much CO2 and plastic, and we must (and can) come together now to decarbonize. Everything that is habitual and feels comfortable has led us to this climate crisis. Solving the problem will require a new paradigm not just one that the leaders put in place for us (errr this hasn’t happened in over half a century), but one that we commit to and enact ourselves.

In short, the power of 8 billion people leading greener lives has the potential, and is potentially our only shot, at healing our planet in time.

I am so thankful for this book. This book is saying to the world what I have been thinking for twenty years. It’s up to us…not the government. We adapted to Covid and changed overnight. There is a lot of information that is just not reported by our politicians due to conflicts with corporate sponsors. This book should be in every school, university, corporation and government official’s office. I agree it is up to us. Let’s go! I am all in.

change is needed

A very powerful and persuasive discussion of the state of the world and steps that can be taken to change how we view aspects of our lives what we can do to change things. Excellent discussion of places around the world that have made significant life changes. Easy to read and well worth reading.
