Zana Bell grew up in Harare, Zimbabwe and studied English Literature at the University of Cape Town. After travelling for several years doing a wide range of jobs, she immigrated to New Zealand where she now lives with her family and cats in a small harbourside community.

She began writing, just for the fun of seeing whether she could actually complete a novel and immediately became hooked. Research is her primary love and writing gives her an excellent excuse to be obsessive or just plain nosey. She enjoys writing in a variety of genre but has a particular fondness for all things historical.

Tempting the Negotiator looks like a mindless, panty dropping, steamy read. But, that's not quite the case.

Sash, or Sass, is your typical uptight lawyer who has complete control over everything in her life, only allowing herself to smoke as a reprieve from her lists and closely watched life. She works for a resort company taking over pieces of land in different countries and islands and putting up a paradise resort that people can spend a week in. This works for the most part until she shows up for her final project that will get her the promotion she needs and is met by a man, some teenagers, and...birds.

If I had to guess what this story was about based off of the cover, I would say there would be some poor excuse for a plot and a bunch of "squatting in the cucumber patch." However, there's lots of politics and boring paragraphs as we listen to EVERY SINGLE PERSON'S opinion on the resort.

The thing I disliked about Tempting the Negotiator was how cliche everything was. From the characters, to the beginning of the story, to the romance, to the end, nothing was really a surprise since it all just went with the normal clichés that have already been set up.

Sass Walker's colleague at Paradise Resorts went to New Zealand looking for a potential resort location and found it in Ahora Bay. But throwing around money only got the locals riled for and against the project. Sass is sent out to listen to all the concerns and write a report on how the company should proceed. She is met by Jake Finlayson, leader of the opposition and is put up in the “sleep-over cabin behind his house. Jake is a surfer with 4 troubled teenage boys living at his home in a sort of boot camp. Jake is determined to get Sass to understand that the resort is wrong and of course they end up being attracted to each other. Good interaction with the troubled boys, an endangered bird situation and a local Maori battle site. Both Jake and Sass have personal issues. The landscape also plays an important role. Good series romance.
