I have finally figured out what was missing in this book. It wasn't easy, but here it is...
Characterization
1.Quirks, hobbies, likes and dislikes
I don't know why I missed this so much, but I did. I missed little things like:What is their favorite colour? Do they like pets? Are they grouchy in the morning? Are they slobs? Do they have nervous habits? Something that would make them feel unique, that would make identify with them and like them.
2. A little Show and Tell
The best way to make me believe something about a character is to show me, through a situation or a memory that it's true. For instance we're told Garrett has always been overprotective, but it would've been nice to see it, through a memory, like Once, when we were kids.... Or, we're told Garrett and Rachel "Have always had a special bond", but how did it start? Why those two?
It's not that I didn't like Sam and Sophie. I liked them fine. Certainly better than Rachel and Ethan. Sophie is also extremely selfless and traumatized, but she's kind of tough too. She's like Rachel 2.0. I still found it strange that neither here, nor in the first book we don't know what the women do for a living. What is Sophie's profession? Did she go to school? What does she plan next? It's a pretty big detail missing.
Sam is ok, too. You can see he cares about Sophie and the baby and that he's good at his job. A little back story would've been nice though. Why did he quit the force? When? How did he know all the men in KGI?
I also found it strange all Kelly brothers went into the military. It is possible, since it's a tradition, but you'd think one of the SIX brothers would be interested in something else.
The Relationship
1. Flirting and witty conversation
I know this isn't the perfect situation, but I still missed it. It would give me a feeling the relationship is developing, that they're slowly growing more comfortable with each other. Maybe that all happened in the beginning, but we didn't see it.
There was this situation that I don't know had to categorize. Is it funny, weird or sweet? Still it was one of the rare that stood out.
¡°Boobs,¡± she mumbled around a second slice of pizza. ¡°Boobs are huge now. I hate it. I feel like I¡¯m incubating aliens and they¡¯re ready to hatch.¡±
He stared at her in astonishment for a moment before throwing his head back to laugh.
¡°I think the aliens are perfect.¡±
¡°You would,¡± she muttered.
2. Talking and getting to know each other
You know how when you just start going out with someone, you just talk? Talk about yourself, your happiest memories and the most embarrassing ones. Talk about your childhood, your plans for the future and wishes. I didn't feel that happened here. First they lied, then they talked about the deceit, then they talked about taking down criminals, then they talked marriage. They did talk tendery about the baby, so that's something.
Too fast for me too believe. The whole relationship was strange to me. They spent maybe a weeks length of time with each other and half of that time they were someone else, half the time they were chasing bad guys and a lot of time they were having sex.
The Suspense
A really good suspense plot
Enough said. It needed something, a mystery or a twist to make it interesting. I was a bit surprised at the end, but there were too many other things that bugged me. A very, very dangerous, smart, tough crime lord keeps all his treasures and all his documents on one place. Guarded by just ONE key. No alarms, no passwords, nothing, just a sensor which doesn't let you in if you're too excited. Just a key he has on him that someone could take from him by drugging him. Even without his death it'd be over. I get arrogance but it's too much. And they called him paranoid for THAT.
Also, don't tell me a team of highly trained professionals needs to take a pregnant woman to an exchange so she can save their ass. Real dangerous, these KGIs.
I have a bone to pick with Garrett and Van, too. A wounded pregnant woman floats up to them, half dead, and the first thing they do is try to interrogate her, while glaring at her suspiciously. Real heroes, guys.
Surprise
I was surprised to find I preferred the first book, since I liked these characters more and there was more drama there. But I was too caught up in the first book to notice all these things, although they were present there, too.
I did like
1. The back stories, which were present here, too.
2. P.J. and Rusty. They are spunky and different and I hope they stay that way.
3. The sexy scenes
4. The baby and their response to the pregnancy.
Conclusion
I did like this book, but I feel a strong urge to read , who is very good at writing all the relationship and character stuff I mentioned here, or who writes mystery plots that make my head hurt.

This is developing into a pretty good series about the Kelly family --a group of ex-military brothers whose family run business specializes in hostage/victim recovery and intelligence gathering. I think I probably enjoyed it a little more than the first book, , and I expect I¡¯ll like the next book, , about cranky Garrett Kelly, even more. With each book Maya Banks tells us a little bit more about the whole Kelly family (although still holding back just a little bit on the physical descriptions--I need more!) which works to help me connect with them.
While undercover with KGI (Kelly Group International) in Mexico on a mission to take down a despicable arms dealer, oldest Kelly brother Sam (36), engages in a torrid affair with blonde, beautiful waitress Sophie Lundgren. Circumstances cause them to reluctantly part, most likely never to see each other again. But five months later, who should turn up floating in the lake outside Sam¡¯s house, shot and clinging to life? Yep. The same woman he had the affair with--Sophie. And she¡¯s 5 months pregnant. And running for her life. Someone wants her dead. And someone wants Sam dead too. Sam needs some answers--how did Sophie know how to find him? How did she know his last name since he never told her. Why is her life in danger? And how is he connected to that danger? Is the baby she¡¯s carrying his? Instinctively Sam wants to protect her, but he needs to know what he¡¯s up against. Will Sophie trust him enough to reveal all about her troubled past? Can the spark that¡¯s still there between them develop into something long lasting? Good story, easy read, with a great opening chapter containing some hot sex and some surprising action that just grabs you and makes you want to read more, more, more¡The heroine Sophie is courageous, strong, and a lot vulnerable, which brings out the protective instincts in the hero, oldest brother Sam. Sophie has some big trust issues, and who could blame her with the way she grew up? I won¡¯t mention details, but she has just about the worst excuse for a father that I¡¯ve ever read. I¡¯m thinking that poor Sophie, after what she goes through in this book, is going to need a couple of years of therapy. Good thing she¡¯s got Mama bear Marlene Kelly to offer her some mothering¡
For some reason I think of Paula Deen as the image of Marlene Kelly¡
If you like romantic suspense that is similar to Cindy Gerard¡¯s Bodyguards series, you¡¯ll probably enjoy the KGI series. It¡¯s got some hot bedroom action, some great family dynamics between Sam, his brothers and his parents, and enough action to keep you on the edge of your seat.. I think Maya Banks is in the groove now, and I can¡¯t wait to read the next book. 4 ? stars.

Another Re-read via audible
Still really like this romantic suspense story! Sam was a little too distrusting at times, but I get why. These brothers are dreamy! Moving on to Garrett's book!

Good old erotic military romance from the infamous Miss Banks. After many bad selection of books to read, I decided to take a break and picked up something easy and familiar. No Place to Run is book 2 of the KGI series.
What I really like from this book is the hot sizzling descriptive sex. Oh my! I realized how much I missed Miss Banks books. Her books never disappointed in the smut department. Although the story is old and repetitive, I am not disappointed in the end.
Good book to start my weekend.

5 stars ¨C Romantic Suspense
I didn't love this quite as much as , the first book in the fantastic Kelly/KGI series, but it's still a great romantic suspense read with lots of emotional twists, pulse pounding action, and erotic love scenes.
Sam is such a sexy, caring alpha hero (and a smokin' hot, attentive lover!), but his mistrust of Sophie frustrated and angered me at times. Although that suspicion certainly ran both ways, and Sophie's stubbornness, dishonesty, and TSTL moments annoyed me, too.
I can't wait for to find out what kind of heroine gets under gruff, stoic Garrett's tough exterior and brings him to his knees. And I really hope Maya Banks writes books for the rest of the Kelly clan, especially Donovan, who's the sweet peacekeeper of the brothers.

Another great installment in the series. I loved that Sophie was a strong heroine even though she was in a delicate condition. She admitted when she needed help, but also wasn't afraid to stand her ground and fight. Sam was a great combination of strength and vulnerability. He would do everything in his power to ensure his family and team's safety, but there was so much more weighing down on him. His doubt of Sophie? Doubting himself? Can he trust her? Did he make a mistake? Are his emotions overriding his mind? So much to wade through.
There was a twist that I definitely didn't see coming and of course plenty of KGI men (and woman) doing what they do best....being

Entretenido y con mucha acci¨®n, me ha gustado que la protagonista no sea una damisela en apuros, pero algunas cosas me han parecido muy poco cre¨ªbles y me ha faltado m¨¢s desarrollo y profundidad de los personajes principales. Sobre todo en el caso de Sam, del que 300 p¨¢ginas despu¨¦s sabemos pr¨¢cticamente lo mismo que al principio.

I was surprised how steamy this one was. Maya Banks is always open door but just how spicy it can get varies wildly. This one was on the higher side~

¡°I¡¯ll be better when you¡¯re naked.¡± When I read a statement like that on the first page of a Maya Banks romantic suspense novel, I know to hold on to my panties for a smokin¡¯ hot ride! After delivering an emotionally gripping opener to the KGI series with The Darkest Hour, Ms. Banks continues her action-packed quest with the Kelly brothers in No Place to Run.
Sam Kelly, a former Army Ranger, is in Mexico staking out an undercover mission with his brothers and their private, special ops team, KGI. He enters one of the local bars and is immediately attracted and distracted by a waitress named Sophie, who quickly becomes a regular visitor to Sam¡¯s hotel room and bed. Their chemistry sparks with intensity from the start and while they know this is a fleeting moment of time with each other, they are determined to make the most of it. What Sam does not know is Sophie is only pretending to be waitress in order to get close to him and gain information for her father, Alex Mouton, who is the very man Sam and his brother¡¯s are trying to take down. Fast forward five months. Sophie, believing her father is now dead, knows that her uncle has taken over her father¡¯s business. Ms. Banks gives us suspenseful, OMG moments with twists and turns you would not expect, but will keep you enthralled until the end. What really drives her stories (and are my favorite part) are the intense, compelling and endearing characters. Sophie has been through hell growing up under strict confinement and in fear of her ruthless and evil father. Never-the-less, she is fearless, brave and ready to endure whatever is necessary to protect her baby. Despite his tough exterior, Sam is a very tender and compassionate man. This is evident when he relishes Sophie¡¯s pregnant body during sensual moments and when he rushes to his family¡¯s side during a health crisis. But his protective and possessive nature takes a strong hold when he fights to protect Sophie and their unborn child. Also, I continue to be moved and impressed by the Kelly family, who once again unite to protect one another and are generous in their acceptance of outsiders like Sophie. Brothers Garrett and Donovan are initially skeptical of Sophie given her secrets and believing she was nothing more than a casual lay. However, they quickly learn that Sam¡¯s feelings for and connection with Sophie is more than just a passing fling. They immediately love and treat her like a sister, willing to put their lives on the line to save her ¡°because that¡¯s what family does.¡±
Sam, Garrett, Donovan and the other Kelly brothers have a unique, enigmatic quality that will pique your curiosity to know more. With their robust sensuality and sex appeal, I am at an impasse as to which one I want to come after me! No Place to Run delivers everything I love in a romantic suspense. Anyone looking for a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat storyline with military brothers who know how to please and protect their women should definitely check out this exciting series!

I liked this book. I did think there was a bit more bleed over from the erotic stories that MB writes than in the first of the series. I don't necessarily mind the word choices but I do think that love scenes in a romantic suspense should be kept to a minimum to allow more time for the actual plot. I was kind of 'yeah, yeah, move it along. What's going on meanwhile back at the ranch?' No real big surprises plot wise here.
I liked the heroine. She was a pretty strong woman. She was also smart enough to know that she was getting to the point with her pregnancy that she would be physically unable to protect herself. I did not mind the mentions of her pregnancy. Maybe because I remember when I was carrying both my boys. A pregnant woman is very wrapped up in what is happening to her and the baby to the point that you really don't think about a whole lot else. So I think that was a pretty realistic portrayal.
I would like to have seen more about the heroine's childhood. It was this real big deal how she'd never had a normal life and yeah, what happened when she was 10 justified her actions at the beginning of the book, but what, exactly, did she do between the ages of 10 and 25? Did she go to school? Was she homeschooled? Was she illiterate? What? How did her father treat her? A few examples even in a mental musing would have helped pin down her character a bit.
Sam was a good character. I liked how he didn't spend a whole lot of time doubting her. It was more like he had some concerns but knew he wanted her so he didn't let them really concern him. Sort of a confidence in himself that no matter what she might or might not do or have done, he could handle it so why worry?

This book *sigh* I don¡¯t even know what to say about this one here. I think I even enjoyed it a bit more than the first one, and I really liked the first one. I won¡¯t say that this is the best Maya Banks novel written, because I am not completely blown away by this series. However, I was delighted to be able to pick this one up here. Even if it has one of my least favorite tropes around. I didn¡¯t know what to expect in this one because you know I just went into this one blindly and I rarely do that. I always like to know what I am getting into but I just trust that Maya Banks will work for me and you know she is one of those authors that can make the least likable tropes just work but it does combine with one of my favorite tropes as well, yeah it worked but also one flashback and that was in the very beginning and that is how I like my flashbacks to be implemented into a story. The plot as a whole was one rollercoaster ride and it¡¯s a story that knocked my socks off.
Summary
Sam Kelly and Sophie Lundgren had a fling and they thought at the time that beautiful time they had together was it for them, that they moved on but it was so much more than that. What I Loved
There were quite a few things that I really loved. First off, is the characters. I actually had a blast with both Sam and Sophie, they were both delightful people that I just wanted to indulge in more of. They have distinct personalities and while they may seem different on the surface, they are both strong as iron on the inside and both fighters. I also enjoyed seeing two reunited lovers come back together. And I also didn¡¯t hate the ¡°Secret Baby¡± trope that is found within this one here. It actually was written in a way that really worked for me. Normally I despise this trope, but Maya Banks really write this element so well within the story that it made sense. The way that the plot was built was done very intricately and I was impressed with the suspense elements that were immersed all the way through. It definitely offered a great balance between the complexities of the relationship with the intense keep you on your toes, storyline that keeps the reader engaged all the way through.
What I Struggled With
Well, there were a few things I think kept this story from a higher rating. I do wish that Sophie had come to Sam much sooner than when she is on the run for her life. I also wish she had been more honest with Sam from the get-go. There were parts of the story that felt a bit rushed and at times it seemed a bit unbelievable especially with the whole villain having a nuke bomb, out of nowhere.
The Narration
This isn¡¯t my favorite narrator in the world, but he did a decent job in narrating this. I did feel like his voice could be too monotone at times and could have been more expressive especially in the more emotional of moments.
Overall View
No Place To Run is a fiery hot, keeps one on their toes, suspense romance. It¡¯s a story that takes you into some intense moments of thrills and desires and family connection which will only delight the reader into delving deeper into this series¡..A TRUE WINNER

I'm surprised how much I liked it! Romantic suspense is not my favorite genre, but somehow Maya Banks makes it work! I just adore the Kelly family and I'm looking forward to continue with this story. I was so excited to read Sam's story and now I just want more of Rio! Will he even have a book? Marlene is the best mother ever!

Sam is a wonderful, protective hero and he will do everything to keep Sophie and her baby safe. Sophie has grown up with a crime lord as her father, and she does not know how to trust. As with Maya Banks' books, one might think that Sophie is surprisingly well-adjusted and it is a miracle that she doesn't suffer more, but I am still utterly charmed. If you can leave realism behind, this is a charming, nail-biting and escapist read. The family is adorable, the story is heart-warming, the chemistry is smoking hot and I even giggled a couple of times. And the romance! *Le sigh*

They danced until the stars twinkled overhead and the moon splashed on the surface of the water like liquid silver.

Great story I loved it!
We didn't really get too much detail into Sam's character in the last book and I seriously wondered if I would like him.....I needn't have worried as I absolutely melted at his response to realising that the child Sophie carried was his and how he wanted to love and protect them both. Sophie is an amazingly strong woman and she fought tooth and nail to try and protect her baby (which was pretty amazing considering her upbringing!) and only went to Sam when she couldn't do that on her own anymore.
We got more information about the operation of KGI, Members of KGI and the Kelly family. I have got a definate soft spot for Garrett and can't wait to read his story.

I LOVED this book from the first page until the last. Lot's of action and movement so never a dull moment.
I loved that the whole family and KGI team members were once again involved in this story.
There were a few LOL moments along with some others that made me cry.
The heat level was REALLY GOOD right from the start. The H&h were very hot and heavy. The Hero Sam was so gentle and caring with the heroine. There were many of sigh worthy scenes.
I recommend this book to anyone that loves a HOT romance with LOTS of action.

Yay 4 stars for chest hair! 3 stars for the story. It was ok but nothing special or different. Some weak logic.

I¡¯d love to see more chest and abdomen hair on cover guys. I eagerly bought this book because there is a ¡°little bit¡± if you look closely. They either airbrushed it on or airbrushed most of it off. I¡¯m not sure if airbrush is the word, but something was done. Anyway, I¡¯m tired of waxed guys on the covers. Please give me authentic men!!! If undecided about a book, I will buy it for the chest hair.

And how is she supposed to wash her hair with one wounded arm? Sam should have washed her hair and helped her with soap and washcloth. That didn¡¯t fit.
Another minor problem. A government agent told Sam that the bad guys had a small army at the Texas location. But when Sam and his group went there, only a few men (of the bad guys) were mentioned. Nothing was said about the small army. I was confused.
STORY BRIEF:
Sam is on an undercover mission in Mexico to catch Alex, an arms dealer. He meets Sophie who works as a waitress. They have a heated affair for a few days. Sam¡¯s group is finished, and he has to leave. Sam doesn¡¯t know that Sophie is the daughter of Alex. After Sam leaves, Sophie goes to Alex, shoots him, takes his vault key, and goes on the run. A few weeks later Sam comes back to find Sophie, but she¡¯s gone. Sophie has now been on the run for five months. She is pregnant with Sam¡¯s baby. She tried to stay away from Sam to keep him safe, but now she needs help and goes to him. Her father¡¯s brother wants revenge and the vault key. His thugs have followed her and cause more problems.

Another minor problem. A government agent told Sam that the bad guys had a small army at the Texas location. But when Sam and his group went there, only a few men (of the bad guys) were mentioned. Nothing was said about the small army. I was confused.
STORY BRIEF:
Sam is on an undercover mission in Mexico to catch Alex, an arms dealer. He meets Sophie who works as a waitress. They have a heated affair for a few days. Sam¡¯s group is finished, and he has to leave. Sam doesn¡¯t know that Sophie is the daughter of Alex. After Sam leaves, Sophie goes to Alex, shoots him, takes his vault key, and goes on the run. A few weeks later Sam comes back to find Sophie, but she¡¯s gone. Sophie has now been on the run for five months. She is pregnant with Sam¡¯s baby. She tried to stay away from Sam to keep him safe, but now she needs help and goes to him. Her father¡¯s brother wants revenge and the vault key. His thugs have followed her and cause more problems.

My library had this book available and I decided to dive right in despite not particularly enjoying the first book in the KGI series. I will say, I enjoyed reading No Place to Run much more than The Darkest Hour. Banks didn't info-dump in this book like she had previously and I was a bigger fan of the heroine, Sophie than the heroine from book 1. The hero, Sam, was okay. Just okay. He doubts the heroine off and on throughout the entire book and I feel like that was pretty shitty in the end. He needed to have groveled way more.
No major complaints. I did have issue with Sam pushing for Sophia to have CT scans and x-rays at the hospital after having been in an accident. I'm not a medical professional, but I'm pretty sure those tests are avoided if a woman is pregnant, yet Sophia had both of those tests. You're not supposed to give radiation to pregnant women. I'm sure there are exceptions and whatever, but that seemed odd. Also, Sophia was popping ibuprofen left and right in this book because she was repeatedly injured. Ibuprofen is a big no-no for pregnant women, especially after 20 weeks (and I assume Sophia was more than 20 weeks given that she connected with Sam five months after conceiving). Ibuprofen can affect the fetus' circulation and kidneys. Given that this book was written with Google around, Banks should have done a few quick clicks for research before including those details.
Anyway, the story is pretty cheesy overall. I did skim in sections because the writing was very redundant in sections, but I enjoyed this book more than book 1. 2.5 stars.

No Place to Run is oldest brother Sam¡¯s book. We start with Sam hooking up with Sophie while on an undercover mission in Mexico. Then we FF 5 months later with a preggers Sophie running for her life and trying to get to Sam. It starts with a bang, and I was hooked from the start.
I liked this one better that for a couple reasons, but most importantly because of Sophie. She was such a stronger h than Rachel who was portrayed very much as a fragile victim. Sophie kicks ass, even pregnant and had bigger balls than the men at times. I also liked Sam, although his lack of trust ruffled my feathers a few times. There¡¯s less family time, but lots of police Sean time which I preferred. At least he¡¯s getting stuff done.
Bottom Line- Strong showing from the Kelly¡¯s. Overall, engaging read with tons of action, a smidge of angst, and a little bit of steam.
This is another super long series with tons of characters and I need to leave notes or I'll forget the details. I like to keep the actual "notes" section for a reminder of the plot so I'm adding my character notes here.

Plot:
Sam was in town to spy on an arms dealer and while there he had a passionate fling with a woman. And 5 months later he her helps out of a lake, half-drowned and pregnant with his child. And he tells him that they both are in danger.
My thoughts:
I have not read much from this genre; make that 2 books that fit one way. But I like this romance sub-genre, because action is always good.
This is book 2 in the KGI series, but I could jump right in and did not feel like I had missed anything. It's about the Kelly Group that takes on government jobs, and private jobs, things that no one else can manage. The 6 brothers are all big, military trained and ready to kick some serious ass. Nothing was mentioned about book 1, except for the couple, so no spoilers either.
Sam Kelly was a great hero, protective, and strong. But Sophie was no weakling either, no she had been on the run for 5 months hiding, and all this while pregnant. I really liked her, she was so very protective and only wanted to save her child. Together they were one strong couple. Still it was not easy, he was unsure if she was lying or not, and she was unsure that he wanted to protect her. The passion was there in the beginning, 5 months later, and then it is more tricky, they will have a lot to go through, and to really get to know each other.
The action was always there. Hiding from whoever was after her, taking them on, and then, ok I will not say anything more, but lots of action going on at the end. I like it intense.
My thoughts and recommendation:
I am feeling sweet and giving this one a 4 because at one time I did have a hard time putting it down, it got intense. There is action, some hot passion, because these two do want each other, doubts, and some good old family time. I warmed up to the Kelly family at once, and I did want more when I was finished. A great mix of romance and suspense, with a good plot too.

Book 2 in the KGI Series and I gotta say I loved it! I sat down after dinner last night and didn't stop reading until I finished. This had everything I like in a story, a hot alpha man with a good heart, lots of action, great secondary characters i loved, and a heroine I would really get behind and of course enough steamy sex to make me happy happy happy!
The story starts with steamy sex between Sam and Sophie (oh my my). Sam is undercover on a mission and he thinks Sophie is a waitress. He gets a message about his mission and is forced to leave right away, never telling Sophie the truth (he does try to come back later though) After Sam leaves Sophie gets dressed and gets in a very expensive car, go to a very expensive house. I fear in my heart that Sophie is about to betray Sam, that she has been lying to him. What Sophie does next shocks me (5% into the book)! And on the run Sophie goes and the action begins.....
One of the best part of this series for me so far is the Kelly family. I love all the brothers course, hot alpha men, who make make me smile when i picture them in my mind! I also love the parents and the adopted daughter. I love the banter between everyone and the obvious love they all show one another. This story had me grinning from ear to ear, laughing, angry, swooning, and ready to jump in to join the action!!!
So happy to be going onto the next book.....

Loved this book 2 of the KGI series. I will likely read all of these again. I'm a sucker for these 'brother' series and this is probably the best of them I have read so far (I like it more than the Rough Riders, and that's saying a lot).
I appreciated the way Ms. Banks incorporated the action of the KGI operatives without making it too technical, the way many male action authors do (as if they are bragging about all of their military knowledge - no Tom Clancy stuff here). It was still just as believable, IMHO.
I also liked Sophie, the heroine of this book very much. From such a terrible background arose a woman who could truly love and care for others...
We also saw a different side to Sam Kelly from the portrayal of him in the first KGI book. Much more open and tender to everyone.
I don't rate very many of my 'many' books with 5 stars, but this series is getting them from me. I have pre-ordered the next book on Kindle and anxiously await it.

My likes:
1- Boy, where do I start? This book packs everything and I don¡¯t mean that lightly, EVERYTHING that I look for when I pick up a novel of the romantic suspense genre. Action packed, highly sensual and emotional with enough character development that keeps the pages turning, I resented the time I had to spend away from the story after I started reading. Yes, Maya Banks has done a splendid job with this one and I can¡¯t literally wait for Garrett¡¯s (*sigh* there goes the knee shaky thing again!) story to come out in March 2011.
2- Sam Kelly. Oh boy! He is one yummy alpha hero, in fact I don¡¯t know how Ms. Banks does it with the Kelly men, but the entire bunch just makes me salivate, sigh, drool and palpitate as the story unfolds. Even with the 1st chapter itself, Sam managed to knock my socks off, with his smoldering sensuality, the simmering need deep within him to claim the woman who is obviously meant for him which touched me in a deep, deep way. And as the story continues, I got to see so many sides of Sam, the responsible tough oldest sibling role he has to play, the gentle, kindhearted soul that comes out to play when he is around those who are weaker than him and the way he lays claim on his woman sealed the deal for me with this hero.
3- Sophie! She is one hell of a heroine. Vulnerable, beautiful and fiercely protective as a mother lioness with her cubs when it comes to her baby and Sam, she totally won me over because she is exactly what Sam needs in his life to make it complete. I loved her because she doesn¡¯t take crap from anyone, not Sam, not Garrett and not even her formidably frightening father and still managed to touch something deep inside of my heart with her need to belong, to be loved and cossetted by someone who would love her unconditionally.
4- The family dynamics in the story. What pulled me in even from the very 1st book in the series is how well the whole Kelly family as well as other side roles within the series have been created, whetting the reader¡¯s appetite for more from them. Apart from the obvious Kelly brothers whose stories every reader of this series must covet, I would love to read Rusty, Sean as well as P.J. and Steele¡¯s story. It is a testament to how well the character development has been handled within the story that I as a reader have this deep, insatiable need to learn more about them, whom we just get to meet in a scene or two in the whole story. Kudos to Ms. Banks for a job well done!
5- As much as I coveted the emotional, sensual and action-packed moments in the story, I loved the humor-laced parts of the story, though they were few and far in-between. The scene that stands out the most is where Sam has to find underthings for Sophie, and it is to his mom he has to turn to, and the conversation between Garrett, Sam and Donovan just had me laughing out loud ¨C making my husband a firm believer of the fact that I am stark raving mad! ^_^
6- And before I forget, I very much heart the man-titty cover! Would make a sensational addition to Pamela Clare¡¯s MTM posts don¡¯tcha think? ^_^
My Dislikes: Absolutely none! Just wish there was more of this stuff to read, is all!! ^_^

SLIGHT SPOILERS
I love the KGI world! I was a bit disappointed with book 1, but this one was just excellent! IMHO So much better.
There's only one word to describe Sam... HOT! I liked him so much better the hero of this story. He's so alpha and in command, but so soft and sweet like a teddy bear.
Sophie has a very strong personality, doesn't take bullshit from anyone since she's had to protect herself and do what she had to since being a little girl and living in the environment she did, without the love and support of a family.
We still get a glimpse of spunky Rusty, except we also see a more emotional side to her this time.
Garrett is his usual grumpy, hard self and we get to see more of Van.
The books starts out in the middle of a mission in Mexico, except page 1 finds us with Sam having some extra-curricular activities with a local waitress, who he seems to just not be able to stay away from.
Lets' just say the chemistry between Sam and Sophie is sizzling. Except that during his mission he was not aware that she's the daughter of the man he's in Mexico trying to take out.
Sophie has lived a horrible life, her father killed her mother right in front of her, and has made her life a living hell, a prison. She now sees the opportunity to be free and get rid of him, and she takes it. Even though it will end her encounters with Sam forever. Sam, who she can't stay away from.
Now fast forward 5 months... Sam is back home, and can't get Sophie out of his head, he went back for her, tried to find her, but she had just vanished. Except she comes back into his life, finds him, and she's been shot... and PREGNANT. She confesses who she is, but not that she killed her father. She knows her uncle is tracking her because of something she stole after killing his father and will stop at nothing to get it. Even killing her, the baby or Sam. But Sam can help her. She knows a bit of who he is, and he can protect her and the baby now that she can't run anymore.
Sam, Garrett and Van are all skeptical, but they protect her until they can get to the bottom of the story, which soon evolves into assassins coming after Sophie, Sam's father having a heart attack, and their mother getting kidnapped from the hospital.
There's a lot of action, specially towards the end of this book, there's many twists, and they all have to prove their loyalties for love and family.
I really liked this installment and I'm sooo looking forward to Garrett's (hard ass) book!

When going with the KGI brothers, there really is no wrong!!
This story is on the oldest brother: Sam Kelly! For some reason, the older brother, gotta look out and protect everyone complex was very appealing to me.
This one started off with a steamy, passionate scene from Sam's POV!!
Sam and a few of his brothers are working a case in Mexico, when he meets Sophie. They start seeing each other, but nothing is at it seems, cause they both are hiding some pretty dangerous secrets from each other.
Fast forward 5 months later, where the heroine Sophie on the run to stay alive,where we find her in a fight for her life and her unborn baby..........what baby, you say?........Sam's baby!
She knows the only way for her to be safe, is to find Sam. When she finally does, all hell breaks loose!!
This story is filled with lots of alpha, badass, army, marine, navy seal boys willing to fight to the death for the ones they love! I ask you, does it get any better than that?
As always when these brothers get together, they always crack me up!

Here are the brothers discussing where they're gonna get clothes to fit Sophie.....
"Christ. That leaves Mom," Sam said.
Garrett starting backing away, hands out, "Oh no, Hell no. I'm not asking Ma for one of her bras. That's just....wrong."
Donovan looked like he's swallowed a bug, and then both he and Garrett stared at Sam.
"Your woman. You do it."
Sam cleared his throat, "Rock, paper, scissors?"
"Fuck that," Donovan snorted.
"You pussies."
"You go. We'll pay for your therapy later," Garrett said.
Sam turned in disgust and stalked away."
I loved this story, it was action packed, suspenseful, sexy, sweet, funny, heart-poundingly good!

HUGE IMPROVEMENT FROM BOOK 1
Writing: Maya Banks can do action! I was really into this one.
There were a couple of confusing bits with the writing that caused me to reread passages several times. Like - ¡°A fist slammed into his gut.¡± I took this as literal, but figured out that it was a metaphor.
3rd person narration. Much fewer POVs than book 1.
Characters: You still have all of the characters from book 1, but the focus is on Sam and the newcomer Sophie. With fewer POVs, I had a chance to get to know the characters a little better, and with that I found that I really like Donovan. Nonetheless, more development is needed.
Storyline: KGI is sent on an assignment in Mexico and Sam gets sidetracked. Little does he know that his distraction is about to turn his and his family¡¯s world upside down.
As I said in my KGI #1 review, Maya does action like nobody¡¯s business. She really stepped it up a notch with this one. Things were blowing up, people were being killed, there was running and hiding, near death experiences, threats¡I was all over this like an action junkie!
However, there were still things that kind of bothered me. I understand that you write from a place that you know, but given the location Maya wrote about, everyone can¡¯t be fair-skinned. I¡¯M NOT BEING OFFENSIVE. HEAR ME OUT BEFORE YOU THROW STONES ¨C
Sophie is from ²Ñ¨¦³æ¾±³¦´Ç. Her father is named Alex, mom is named Maria and her uncle is named Tomas. But Sophie has blonde hair and blue eyes. Okay, let¡¯s say her family is American and they moved to Mexico before she was born (this would raise other issues but would explain why she doesn¡¯t look Mexican). Sophie should at least have an accent or use words or phrases native to Mexico.
Intimacy Scenes: These were kind of explosive not in a ¡®WOW, that was hot¡¯ way, although the scenes were hot, but like ¡®I¡¯ve been waiting for this for so long¡¯ way. If you¡¯re looking for a lot of dirty talk and a lot of sex, keep it moving.
Overall: Book 1 and book 2 are like night and day. If you read book 1 and didn¡¯t like it, you should give this one a try.
