Vampire attacks are on the rise in the city that never sleeps. So why is half-human, half-Drow private eye Nyx tracking down Sprites? Sure, these 'young bloods' are causing mischief all over town - like painting the Statue of Liberty's toenails neon pink.
Cheyenne McCray fell in love with reading and writing early, deciding in kindergarten that one day she would become an author. I was rather disappointed in this installment. Nyx is really getting on my nerves. She's a hotdog and insists on going into danger without her team again and again. WTF is up with that? It was also incredibly repetitive. Nyx found something out, verified it with the sprites which necessitated repeating every darn thing, then she told Rodan word by word the entire thing again, then Rodan got the group of Night Trackers together and once again repeated the entire darn thing. It took up a lot of unnecessary pages and was just plain irritating. I also thought it was ridiculous after the vamps got hold of something really dangerous that Nyx and Adam had time to get a little before worrying about the problem.
All in all an okay story line but not executed as well as Ms. McCray usually puts her stories together. I'm hoping that the Zombie book will be better though I'm not holding out much hope because I'm not really into zombies.
Nyx Ciar, is a dark elf, (drow), half human on her mothers side, Private Investigator and of course, a Night Tracker. She and her teammantes are back in action when a mischievous gang of sprites (fae who are extremely ugly, disgusting creatures. They have been wreaking havoc all over Manhattan. After taking charge of her sprites, and going to the Pit, (paranormal hangout); she overhears a conversation between a pair of vampires and realizes that there is a lot more at stake then cleaning up Lady Liberty’s toenails.
Seems master vampire Volod and his coven mates are tired of being ignored and left out of the paranormal world, including it's council. He has a plan that will put him and his followers at the top of the food chain once and for all; that is unless Nyx and her allies puts an end to it fast. There are also more Vampires in and around NYC than anyone could imagine.
Nyx learns through an unlikely source (a sprite named Negel) that vampires have stolen all the classified documents that list each and every paranormals weaknesses. He plans plan to using it to force their demands on the Paranormal council and take over. They have also tried to steal the antidote and virus that humans tried to use on Werewolves in the last novel.
I still love Olivia (Nyk's PI Partner and former NYPD SWAT Officer) and her snarky T-Shirts and her bad attitude. Olivia is really peeved at Nyx for continuing to ignore her as a human, and leaving out important information, like the paranormal council. Nyx, finally, comes clean to both Olivia and her lover NYPD Detective Adam Boyd. Olivia is the only human tracker allowed on the Night Trackers roster, something that isn't taken very well by other members of the group.
Adam and Nyk seem to finally be kicking off a nice romantic interlude and by the end of the story, they are on vacation in Belize. (Love Belize!) OF course, the ending left a HUGE question! Ugh!
I am still having a problem with Nyx and the Victoria’s Secret panties obsession. I mean really? I'm also glad your cat Kali shreds them constantly. Although that storyline gets silly pretty quickly as well.
The storyline with Volod doesn't end in this book, and it appears he may play another role in one of the next upcoming releases: Zombies Sold Separately (05/24/2011) and Vampires Dead Ahead (Fall 2011).
Hero of the book: Negel the sprite. He not only takes charge of his clan, but he puts himself into harms way in order to save Nyx. His ending was truly sad, but not unexpected.
Evil Villian: Volod, the Master Vampire who tries to take over NYC and expand. He then injects the virust into Nyk and bites her. (That should be another interesting storyline). He flees with his head in his arms. I mean come on!
My thoughts: Nyk is still a pompous bit for a character. We know already that you are a princess of Dow. Get over yourself already and trust your partners. She is very conceited as well. She believes that she is the only one that can stop these vampires, then walks into a trap and gets herself injected with the virus. Well done Nyk. She isn't even the hero of this story. I would like to see more of Rodan and what his true abilities are. These vampires are not like your other vampires. Instead of turning immediately, it takes them two bites from a vampire to turn. Then, they are put into a coffin where they rise from the groud 9 days later. This goes against everything you've ever read about vampires. Lastly, we get that your hair is Amethyst already. Please, if someone says your hair is purple, role with it and smile!
My first issue was the typesetting - just enough to be distracting. But not an issue to be laid at the authors door. There was so much that didn't work for me in this 3rd installment of the series. The juvenile style of this one had my head spinning - short repetitive sentences as if I didn't comprehend what I'd read before the punctuation. The seemingly endless gushing over - the boyfriend. The only thing missing was hearts dotting the "i's" and writing Mrs. in front of his name. (very 'tween!) I also had difficulty with the jumping from topic to topic; this method may have been effective had there not been so much repeating of the sentence (with every minor changes i.e. sentence structure and correcting the grammar as it came thru the second time). Pieces were much like a magpie being enchanted with every shiny object or a toddler with ADD that is also obsessed with everything goes in the mouth. I didn't enjoy outing nearly as well as the previous books. IMHO this would have worked much better with half of the published pages - which would make this a novellette - but why not suffer for sake of art? All of that aside Paranorm pecking order and vampire prejudice was clearly riding high and mighty in this release. Teasers from the previous installment had much to say as elements and results from that installment have a strong bearing on this one.
Eh it’s not awful. There’s a lot of interesting build up to the world I just still hate the depth of the characters. I probably would have liked this series more in middle school/early high school. But right now with all the other authors I’ve read this series just feels so flat. Still some brand name dropping, still odd dynamics, smattering of sex and romance and the world is collapsing blah blah.

In the 3rd Night Tracker book, Vampires Not Invited, Nyx and her trackers find out that vampires want to take over the world and they have the means to do so.
On the paranormal status scale, vampires are pretty much at the bottom. Considered tainted by their once being human, they have no rights where the paranormal world is concerned. Nyx learns through an unlikely source that vampires have stolen all the classified documents that list each and every paranormals weaknesses and plan to use it to force their demands on the Paranormal council. Nyx tries to go it alone and ends up in a pretty bad way, requiring the help of everyone to get her out.
I enjoyed parts of this latest installment. The plot is fabulous- thick with action, suspense, and humor. I love how you never know till the very end if Nyx will make it out of this battle alive or not. McCray builds her paranormal world with a steady hand; expanding it’s borders with every new installment. While the arc expands and draws upon previous books for enhancement, each one can be read alone if you choose.
I enjoyed the smaller story lines that enhanced the arc. We see Nye’s prejudice towards certain other paranorms and her overcoming it along with some emotional (though not much physical) bonding in her relationship with her human lover, Adam.
The main characters are well defined and personable. I adored our villains. They are evil and with out conscious. They took the storyline to a new level. Olivia has Nyx’s back with much snark and her ever present t shirts. The other trackers are very active and visible through out the story.
I am still having a problem with Nyx though. She is still one dimensional to me. Her conversations come off stilted and ring false. Every single sentence that comes out of her mouth or runs thru her head mention she’s a princess, she’s rich, a designer name, that she’s feminine and /or a kick ass warrior. Oh yea, and the Victoria’s Secret panties. You will read about her cat and the panties at least a dozen times. Mentioning each one of those once in the book would be ok. But each one is mentioned at least a dozen times. It got to the point where I wanted to put the book down multiple times because it became so irritating. But the plot kept me hooked and reading. What really confuses me is that no other character seems to have this superficial dialog problem.
The ending was fast moving rollercoaster of thrills as we are kept on the edge waiting for the ax to fall. I love how unpredictable it all was. I also love the fact that Ms McCray leaves us wondering on some things that happened in order to build on the next installment-Zombies Sold Separately.
Well, wasn't this novel just chapters full of drama! Even more so than the last one. Which only made this novel more interesting to me. And considering this series has the potential to get boring, that's saying something. But for once I was actually entertained. This novel took certain aspects from the previous novel, and turned it into something new. It became rather exciting and hard to put down at times, instead of just being dull and boring.
The mess with the werewolves was exactly that. A huge mess that should've never occurred. But it did, and it's now up to the Nighttrackers to clean up the mess. Just like they always do. Except this time it's a little bit harder. Because sprites have decided to run amuck, an create a string of organized chaos. Which has never happened with the sprites before. For even though they're full of mischief, and like to pull pranks, if there's one thing they're not it's organized. However, this time they seem to be, and Nix is starting to get a bit suspicious as to why that is. It's almost like they're trying to distract them from something. Its when the Master Vampire Volod threatens the council it that it all starts to come together. Because it seems that all vampires are getting tired of the constant suppression that's been placed upon them. They want the freedom to hunt humans like they used to, and they crave the power that they once lost. Power that they very well now have, due to a certain list and serum that have gone missing. For the sprites in lockup had one ulterior motive behind their mischief. They were to steal a list of all the paranormal’s weaknesses, and on the way out they also stole the werewolf formula. The very formula that could kill all paranormals alike. And to make matters worse they don't have enough antiserum for more than one person. So if it gets out, everyone who isn't part human is at risk. Making it a race against the clock for all Nighttrackers out there. But with Volod running against them, they may already be too late to stop the upcoming contamination.
This novel would be classified as an adult urban fantasy novel. One that has a little bit of romance within it. It also has quite a few different aspects within it as well. Such as vampires, fae, shapeshifters, and so much more. Making this novel quite the melting pot for supernatural races. However, when it comes down to the plot, it was surely lacking. It was rather dull and boring at times, and it wasn't that great either. I could see every twist and turn that was coming. It was very predictable and extremely see-through at times. So for my final recommendation I'd have to say that it's just an okay one. Because while this novel was starting to finally get interesting, its still lacking in certain areas. So I ultimately don't recommend giving this novel a go at all.
When I started this series, I thought it had a lot of potential. Sadly, it has not lived up to that potential. In the 3d book, we find half Drow Nyx facing off with the Vampires. Problems raged rampant in this book from dialogue (cheesy and repetitive) and story development (there really wasn't any except the tired and true Vampires = bad). My main problem with the series has been the character development, because there really hasn't been any, despite that Nyx and Adam have professed their love for each other. But that in itself is not character development.
Throughout, Nyx fluctuates between kick-ass Drow warrior and overly emotional female. Yes, I appreciate that McCray is trying to humanize Nyx, but it goes too far. Nyx voluntarily goes into the Vampire compound by herself, then freaks out, getting all scared and emotional because she did and almost gets herself killed. She varies between extremes, which makes it feel flat and fake. Furthermore, Nyx really hasn't changed in the three books - no growth whatsoever. Granted, the events in all three books seem to happen back-to-back, but still. Plus, the constant whining about being called purple. Someone, maybe Olivia, should slap her and say get over it already. Amethyst is in the violet family. I think McCray is trying to use this as a catchy thing, but in book 3, it's just coming across as whiney and irritating.
Olivia, Nyx's partner in their PI business and fellow tracker, has been relegated way off stage. She hardly appeared in this book, and when she did, she was flat - only snippy and sarcastic. No real depth. This is sad because I like Olivia and thought she had a lot of potential. Nyx keeps reminding us that Olivia is human, and therefore too fragile to get involved, but then turns around and says that no human has ever been chosen to be a Tracker, except for Olivia, which is a big deal. So, which is it? Fragile human or kick-ass human? Again, flip-flopping extremes, so it's understandable why Olivia has been moved staged right because otherwise, she'd end up in a straight jacket due to the extreme personality differences. Adam is the same way, except his character is more of the protective golden lab type. His whole function is to support Nyx and give a good erotic scene when needed. In this book, both Olivia and Adam could have been cut completely out and no one would know the difference. Other than Nyx, Olivia and Adam are supposed to be main secondary characters, but combined, their scenes barely make a chapter. It was all very Nyx-centric this time around, which is another reason I think it failed.
As I have the next 2 books in the series, I will give it a chance and hopefully see some improvements. But after Vampires Not Invited, I'm not too hopeful.

Vampires Not Invited is non-stop action, dangerous missions, and a whole lot of fun!
Nxy is back and up to her old tricks in this third installment of the Night Tracker series. Vampire attacks are at an all-time high in New York City, and now the Sprites are wreaking havoc as well. What more could go wrong? Well, our half-Human, half-Elf Night Tracker Nyx will soon find out.
This book is a continuation of the Night Tracker series, and while you don't have to read the first two books to understand what's going on, I feel like you would miss out on how well the Night Tracker world is developed. The story builds off of past plots, so it's best to have read all the books. I love this series because I laugh, yell, roll my eyes and get scared, and even sometimes get a bit misty-eyed, and Vampires Not Invited held true to form.
Nyx is such a wonderfully unique character. I love watching her navigate through the New York Underground. The other characters in the book are so fantastic, and we get more glimpses into their personalities in this book as there are more serious events happening that could threaten the entire paranorm world. These added glimpses bring depth and further the development of the story and the Night Tracker world. Of course, I have to mention my favorite character, Olivia. She's Nyx's sassy, tough as nails Human partner. She's been hilarious in the series, and she's true to form in this book as well. Nyx and her boyfriend Adam, the Human NYPD detective, nurture and deepen their relationship in this story, and I enjoyed watching them become more solid. Their interactions are always steamy, and in this book, we got to see a bit more of the feelings that they have developed for each other.
The best part of the book for me had to be the plot. I love how the author takes pieces of previous books and builds on them, bringing about another facet of the overall story. It keeps the other books in your mind, while giving you a whole new set of characters and enemies. The end result just sucks you in, and you find that can't put the book down. There's nothing predictable about the plot, and the surprises kept me on the edge of my seat.
Overall, a wonderfully developed installment of this great series. I can't wait to see what lies ahead for Nyx and the rest of the trackers.
Cheyenne McCray's Night Tracker series has quickly become one of my favorites! I'll admit to being skeptical about it at first, but I am totally done with that feeling! This series is GREAT! And the latest in the series, Vampires Not Invited puts the series on its course!
If the Sprites' mischief wasn't enough, now the Vampires are getting involved. They are now the number one problem and the number one enemy. For too long Vampires have never been taken seriously. They are not true paranorms for they were once human. The Vampires are done hiding in the shadows, not literally of course since they still must avoid sunlight!
Big trouble is about to find Nyx and her other Tracker friends. Big, big trouble. The Vampires are after something that will give them total control over the world--in their eyes and their plan really does give them all the control and power they need, so it's not that far off base of taking over the world!
The action was pretty good, hardly any dull moments! And of course there was a good dose of danger that Nyx gets herself into!
The romance was decent as well, not a whole lot but the bits that were between Adam and Nyx were very intense! That's what I love about these books (along with others), they aren't overloaded with sex scenes, but the romance scenes that you do get are pretty intense and I like how they are tastefully written!
There were quite a few surprises in the story as well, which I won't share. The ending is a doozie though! It makes you think if somethings might carry over into the next book. And if there weren't already enough clues in the past three books and the knowledge that the third book is titled, Zombies Sold Separately, zombies will be the next thing Nyx tackles and since she HATES zombies, the next one will definitely be a GREAT read!
Overall I give this one a 4.5/5 stars. My only problem was I had a lapse in reading time and somethings got lost and muddled, but that was more because of how I read it! It was still just as amazing as the first two!
*WARNING* i might rant a little :P Alrighty if you check out my Reading Progress from this book you will notice that i complain Alot about Nyx (the main character) who drives me NUTS! what is wrong with that women?? First she calls her awesome dragon clawed daggers lightning and thunder which is just lame and to make matters worse she's constantly saying dumb lines like "would you like to feel my thunder". Plus Nyx is always bragging about how much tougher and better she is then everyone else which could be true if she used her ability's properly but instead she always lets her emotions get the better of her (which is pretty much a rookie mistake) even though she always in charge (which is the worst idea ever!) and she gets herself caught in every book so far and the other night trackers have to come save her ass and almost die in the process. her human partner Olivia is way cooler and has a better personality with more depth but in this book im guessing McMray got a bit upset that her main character was being over-looked so Olivia gets way bitchier at the start of this book compared to usual which is a shame cause Olivia helps make to book worth reading. this series could be fantastic is Nyx was a better character, she has the looks, she's the only one of her species, she comes from another world, her powers are super kick ass when she uses them correctly and she's a princess warrior but her personality lets her down BIG time and she's REALLY stupid at times.
you might think after reading all that why i even bother with this series... it cause they have wicked fight scenes, cool missions with great twist. good characters besides Nyx (who brings the whole series down) and like a hundred different species of supernatural. there are only two humans the rest are of the paranormal kind which is great.
but all in all i doubt i would recommend this series to anyone unless they were REALLY bored :P
Someone hit me with a stick, because I really like this series. It's strange, because the main character likes manicures, and pretty clothes. She hates to be called purple, and mentions it every 10 pages or so. Her cat tears at her underwear, yet she continues to buy new ones instead of putting them in a different place. There are many other minor irritations I have, but they really are just minor irritations.
The mystery here is what really drew me in. I was interested in why sprites were painting the statue of liberty and overflowing a building with hot dogs, and I was eager to find out who was behind it all. I was on the edge of my seat in the vampire lair and was really engrossed for the most part. As in many urban fantasy books, the action did start to take over and I tuned some of it out. The main character and team is very special ops based, and military oriented, which bored me at times. There is also a bit of bias and just plain idiocy on the part of some of the characters. Oh no, the vampires would never rise up, we have them under control. They have them under control yet are doing absolutely nothing to control them...right. Ugh, all of that sounds bad, and make this book seem terrible, yet I really liked it. I've enjoyed this whole series, and it's not the characters, it's not the logic, it's not the world building. Maybe it's just the writing style that makes you root for the little guy, that makes you want to see the good guys win, and that makes you want to know what happens next. I can't explain it more than that. Maybe, like in many other books, I like this when so many others dislike it. Yes, there were some editing issues. Yes, the main character doesn't like to be called purple, but for someone as picky as I am I really did like this book, and I will continue to read this series.
This is the third book in the Night Tracker series. In this book, the Vampires are tired of being looked down upon and being left out of paranorm governance. They have somehow discovered that the paranorm ruling council keeps a file containing detailed information about all paranorm races - including their weaknesses - in their archives...which is located right next to what passes for the paranorm official lock-up for their criminals. Smart move, keeping sensitive documents next to a prison.
The Vampires strike a deal with the Sprites to help them obtain the file. In the process, the Sprites discover something far more dangerous to paranorm existence, something which also eventually falls into the Vampires' hands. Nyx and her friends must recover the threats to the paranorm races and stop the Vampires from taking over.
Believe it or not, this series has improved with time. This book is still a by-the-numbers urban fantasy with predictable action, perfunctory dialogue, and little depth. However, we at least get to see Nyx experience some real emotion this time around, which is a nice change from previous books. She comes across less cardboard and more real.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the running joke about Nyx's skin being "amethyst", not "purple", wears extremely thin. Yeah, it was amusing the first couple of times she thought/said it in the first book; now, it's just irritating. Also irritating is the repetitive mention of her "cobalt blue hair", her "xPhone", her "Victoria's Secret" panties, etc.
Also, the Vampires are so unrelentingly, irredeemably evil that they come across as caricatures rather than actual characters. In my opinion, villians are much more interesting when there are shades of gray, when there is some complexity to their actions and motivations. That doesn't occur here.
Nyx is half human half drow mix. She is also one mean-ass paranorm tracker. She is the best of the best, and is now facing the biggest challenge of her life. Nyx and her tracker friends have been noticing of late that there has been weird things happening around New York City. Sprites seem to be causing a lot of trouble, such as painting the toe nails, and flame of the Statue of Libery a bright neon pink. Nyx decides to get to the bottom of all of this mischief and starts questioning sprites. She soon learns that sprites have made a deal with the vampires. What Nyx finds out could cause the extinction of the whole paranorm race. Nyx and her tracker friends must now stop the vampires from using the serum that will kill all paranorms. Will Nyx save herself and all other races and get the serum from the vampires, or will she and everyone die?
Thrilling and exciting is "Vampires Not Invited". This book is full of twists and turns and non-stop excitement. Just when you think you have the story figured out, Cheyenne will have you re thinking the whole story from the beginning. If you enjoy reading a book full of lots of twists and turns, "Vampires Not Invited" is the book for you. Reviewed by Raven Kelly- Vampirebooks.ca
Loved it! This is Nyx's third book. Sprites are causing all kinds of trouble in NYC and The NightTrackers have been kept busy hauling them in and cleaning up the messes. Come to find out the Sprites are aligned with the Vampires. They have purposely been put in detention so they can break out and obtain info from the Council Records to give the Vamps. The info they take is all paranorms weaknesses and locations. They also find the serum and anti serum from the werewolf attacks. The Sprites do not give the serums to the vamps but the vamps sense this, kill the Sprites and take the serums. Nyx and the council have made quite an enemy of Volod the Master vampire of NYC and his minions. The vamps had wanted a seat on the council but were refused (the council and just about all paranorms think of all non-born paranorms, such as vamps, witches, and zombies as pond scum). With the serums and the info on the races Volod intends to take over the council and let vamps run wild as they are meant to. It's very interesting what all Nyx and the team go through to try and get the serums back and stop the vamps. She even gets over her prejudice towards the Sprites whom she has always thought of as stupid. A must read. Can't wait for ZOMBIES SOLD SEPARATELY coming in May 2011.
Nyx is back for a 3rd time in Vampires Not Invited. The Vampires of her world have decided they are sick and tired of being the underdogs so they decide to steal a list of all the paranorm's weaknesses with the help of the sprites. Nyx puts herself in a pretty bad spot and her friends and fellow trackers help her get out of it without hesitation. The book is FULL of action at every turn. I laughed a ton which is always nice while reading, I also cried a bit because I'm a sappy emotional reader. Nyx gets over some prejudiced that she has for other races as she makes new friends and allies and sees what she perceived as race/species wide behavior really was only what a select few were like in reality. On a scale of 1-10 the romance between Nyx and Adam is about a 2 but they are still going strong in their relationship. The ending kind of leaves you feeling like the storyline for this book will continue into the next. I look forward to what Nyx does next and how she takes what she learned in Vampires Not Invited to grow as a person and tracker.
So Nyx, Olivia, Adam and Rodan are back and the Vampires want to rule the paranom council and race by using the weakness of all paranorm's and the serum for the pervious werewolve saga. I was kind of disappointed in this chapter of the Nyx saga the charater's depth was not really added to the story line was flat compared to pervious stories. What I mean by this is we had way to much going back to previous books in the series with nothing new added to the character's in doing so it was like it was filler. maybe I am being to harsh and I read the books to close together and might have need more of a refresher if they were further apart but not this much. I was halfway throught the book before any real action started and the the only new world building was sprite's, vampire lore and the detention center which just was not enought to keep me motivated. Most of the world building of vampire's had already been mentioned in previous books and the sprite world seemed lacking for as much time as was spent on it. I have alway really enjoyed Cheyenne's book and I will go on to read "Zombies Sold Seperatly" hoping it gets better.
The jury was out in the first book, I didn't know if I liked the air flipper/brand name dropping/shallow heroine, but the plot and twists were much better in the second book, however this one lack editing. There's one scene repeating after another; in one meeting of night trackers Nyx and her "boss" made eye contact, to get a point across, with each tracker at least five times; Nyx spent three quarters of the book enveloped in glamour and spying on the vampires repeating and repeating the same, how she has to wrap her glamour tight around herself each time: a vampire pass by/she has a strong emotion/Volod is in the room, and the fact that Volod sense her every single time didn't deter our leading lady from doing it again or change tactics, nooooo, she just wrap it tighter, not that it made any good, AGAIN! Besides the plot was predictable, not much action, the "love" parts were rush and thrust down our throats.
Not a good addition to the series, it has potential but need a lot of work.
I like it when vampires are the heroes but can handle vampires being the villains. Vampires Not Invited falls into the second category. Unfortunately the book has too many things that I couldn't get into.
1. The Bad guy is revealed and his motives revealed WAY too early in the book. 2. Nyx! You'd think an intelligent woman would learn not to go in alone after previous events, but not Nyx, she makes the same mistakes. 3. Characters that were really showcased in No Werewolves Allowed got pushed so far into the background they could have been easily replaced with other characters.
What I did like about the book:
1. The subtle handling of race relations and prejudice. 2. Adam & Rodan and their determination to keep Nyx safe.
There's a fourth book in the series coming in May, Zombies Sold Seperately. I haven't decided if I'll read it or not. So far book 2 was the best in the series. I will say it had a kickin cover.
::: sigh ::: This one was ok. A decent read. Not as good as book 2 though... in my opinion anyway. It moved pretty slow.
There was a lot of repetition in this book. The author told us again about certain characters and the world they're in. And I just felt like... well...I know that already, let's move on. And then the plot of this story ... seemed like everything was retold over and over again. X event happened... and then Nyx verified it, which meant the entire event was rehashed... and then she had to go tell her team the story... ALL OVER AGAIN... several more times for each member of her team! Also I found that the spirit characters repeated themselves over and over as well. And I suppose she wrote them that way on purpose but I felt it was irritating. It was just so incredibly repetitive.
And the Vampires... well, you believed they were cold-hearted Vampires... but her attempts to give them history and a background fell flat for me.
This re-read is killing me. I'm hating Nyx with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. As usual, she ignores all advice and past experience, running headlong into danger, all by herself, and almost getting killed. Again. How is she a leader? Not only has she been a Tracker for only 2 years, but by paranorm standards she's barely an adult. Plus she's proven herself incapable of logic and reason in stressful situations. Must be her amazing ability to suddenly develop whatever skill is most needed at that moment. Of course she now has a photographic memory, how convenient. Of course, after only attempting it once before in a life or death situation, she does long distance transference. Why not? Whatever puts her in the most ridiculous situation, where she attempts (but fails), to save the day. What a crapfest. I see no hope in sight, but I'm going to soldier on and get through this farce of a series.
VAMPIRES NOT INVITED by Cheyenne McCray is an interesting investivative urban fantasy. It is the third in "A Night Tracker Novel",Book One, "Demons Not Included,Book Two, "No Werewolves Allowed",but can be read as a stand alone. It has vampires,Drow princess(half human),humans, elves, srites, shifters, zombies, suspense, action, private investigations, night hunters, and supernatural. This is a fast paced, action packed, supernatural tale of a challenge for leadership and domination. For the urban fantasy reader this is a must read. This book was received for the purpose of review from the publisher and details can be found at St.Martin's Paperbacke, published by St. Martin's Press and My Book Addiction and More,
I have loved Nyx in past books, but I had real problems with her in this book. I was so annoyed at her. I think she took too many risks and was trying to play the hero, instead of being a team player. Maybe I'm wrong and if she had gone in as a team into one of the situations things would have been worse than they ended up being. But we'll never know.
Early on I was annoyed at Olivia for getting mad at Nyx for holding back info. I don't necessarily love Olivia anyway, so maybe that is why she bothered me. I still love Adam, and I'm glad that things are going so well between him and Nyx.
Overall, I still enjoyed the book and I'll continue with the series. Just hope that Nyx won't be so independent in the future.
Terrible. Just...awful. The action was lame, the characters were completely cardboard, and there was no dialogue. At all. Dont let the quotation marks fool you. That wasnt dialogue you just saw, it was an attempt at cleverly disguised info-dumping. Seriously. At the end, instead of actually wrapping it up and writing what happened to the whole thing, the last chapter was the main character and her boyfriend having a conversation about it. It was just ridiculous. I had high hopes for this and it was terrible. I feel sorry for any one that put in the time and effort of reading the whole series.
Vampires Not Invited pointed out the prejudices of the main character Nyx and all the Night Trackers have against one another and other paranorms. I found this to be interesting. The plot compared to the last book PHENOMENAL! Its nice to see an author actually pick up where a story leaves off instead of pushing forward into something totally different. The unfinished business from No Werewolves Allowed did leave a bad taste in my mouth.
I was so glad to see it done in this book. The dialogue between Olivia(I love Olivia and her t-shirts) , Adam and Nyx always crack me up.
This series gets more and more "me centered" around the main character, and all the characters are getting very one-dimensional. The dialogue is repetitive and trite. Arg: the first book was so promising. I really like the society and set up of the world, or I'd stop reading. It reminds me of the Matrix series: just copying the bright image of the first story, but the copies get paler and paler. Looks like I'm in the minority according to stars.
While I liked this story, I struggled with it. I loved the second book of the series, but this one was not as good. It was still a good story and I rather liked the Sprites and their antics...at times anyways. As always, Nyx is a fun kick ass character and I liked how some of her softer side was more apparent. I like strong characters, but I also like it when their vulnerabilities, and how they deal with them, surface. No one can be strong all the time.
It seems that Nyx and vampires are not destined to be friends. Ever. They want to take overt the world, beginning with New York City. Nyx isn't having that, but it is going to take a lot of drive to stop them.
This is a traditional bad guy, pretty nice girl who is a Warrior, a guy who loves her and is human and various other folk. It especially speaks of Sprites - usually the bottom of the Fae barrel but somehow they may be more than they seem.
