From the hit TV show How I Met Your Mother comes Barney Stinson’s words of wit, wisdom, and awesomeness, The Bro Codethe New York Times bestseller (really!) with more than a million copies in print all around the world.
Everyone’s life is governed by an internal code of conduct. Some call it morality. Others call it religion. But Bros in the know call this Holy Grail The Bro Code.
The Bro Code is a living document, much like the Constitution. Except instead of outlining a government, or the Bill of Rights, or anything even resembling laws, The Bro Code provides men with all the rules they need to know in order to become a “bro and behave properly among other bros. Historically a spoken tradition passed from one generation to the next and dating back to the American Revolution, the official code of conduct for Bros appears here in its published form for the first time ever. By upholding the tenets of this sacred and legendary document, any dude can learn to achieve Bro-dom.
Containing approximately 150 “unspoken rules, this code of conduct for bros can range from the simple (bros before hos) to the complex (the hot-to-crazy ratio, complete with bar graphs and charts). With helpful sidebros The Bro Code will help any ordinary guy become the best bro he can be. Let ultimate bro and coauthor Barney Stinson and his book, The Bro Code share their wisdom, lest you be caught making eye contact in a devil’s three-way (two dudes, duh).
This is an essential compendium containing the absolute rules and amendments of the mysterious and prestigious society known as Bro-hood. DO NOT confuse Bro-hood with brotherhood. As the book reveals, your brother might not be your bro!
The first time I came across the author, Barney Stintson, was when I was headhunting for a secret secret organization (No, not the S-NASA). One of my minions forwarded me his awesome video resume which blew me away in eight different directions. (The resume can be found ) With a little more digging using one of our super computers and a couple of drones, we found that he is an author of not one, but two international bestsellers.
Bro Code being one of them.
Mr. Stintson has presented this book methodically and very professionally with the help of in-depth research and pure awesomeness. He digs deep and explains the term Bro, presents concerning vocabulary (or Brocabulary),lists 150 articles of Bro-dom with out boredom and tops off with the ten amendments for bros to follow.
I recommend this to every Bro and asks them humbly to listen to while reading this.
As always, if any woman asks about Bro code, exercise The Brode of Silence.
Bro out!
Alright, Now for reals. This gag book is a tie-in media to the hit TV show, How I met your mother and it lists the famous Bro code that Barney Stinson from the show always quotes from, usually to make Ted mad. It's funny at times and repetitive at some parts. But hey, We have an actual Bro code! That's Legen- It's written in the Bro code, mate - Dary. Legendary!
Overall, read this only if you are a fan of the show.
How I Met Your Mother".
No puedo esperar a leer mi edición de "The Playbook: Suit up. Score chicks. Be awesome."
In accordance with the FTC, I would like to disclose that I purchased this book. The opinions expressed are mine and no monetary compensation was offered to me by the author or publisher.
There is a code that all bros must follow. Previously only passed on by word-of-mouth, Barney Stinson has taken it as his duty to publish The Bro Code, so that no bro shall go unawares.
Note: Women, this is a work of fiction and should be viewed as such.
(Bro: This is not a work of fiction and if you fail to uphold The Bro Code, you will be left chickless and broless.)
I first heard about The Bro Code ages back and knew that I had to read it. Or better yet, listen to the audio book as it is a) unabridged - awesome! - and b) read by Barney Stinson himself. Legen- wait for it...
I couldn't detach myself from The Bro Code (my vocabulary is expanding with not only the discovery of bronacular but also with the abolition of reading terms, since using them in reference to audio books sounds stupid) and am now far more prepared to go forth and be a better bro.
Fact: Women can be a bro as long as they follow The Bro Code.
Fact: Women make the best wingmen (or...wingwomen) as they know what chicks are thinking.
I'm paraphrasing. Barney Stinson is the one with all the knowledge and should be looked to as the exemplary bro.
If you want to avoid awkwardness around other bros, not look stupid and score with chicks...then you need The Bro Code. Any dude can make the transition to becoming a bro.
When it comes to the decision of whether you should read the book or listen to the audio book, there are a couple of factors to take into account.
The book is equipped with diagrams, check lists and other extras. Since I bought the audio book from Audible, I do not have the physical edition. The audio book refers to these extras as being in a PDF file but I have been unable to discover it.* Not a high-five moment.
Overall, I'm far from disappointed. The audio book, read by Barney Stinson himself - or for the chicks (as this is a work of fiction) Neil Patrick Harris - is brotastic. The writing of Matt Kuhn (an obvious pseubronym to throw off those chicks) is ampbrofied by Stinson's wit and timing.
I recommend 'The Bro Code' by Barney Stinson with Matt Kuhn, to anyone who is looking for a guideline to life and a gateway into brohood. Not for easily offended chicks. The audio book is a must listen, bro.
-dary! LEGENDARY!
*I actually did finally find that PDF after all! It was in 'My Library' hiding under "title."
Nothing! Because there is no Bro code. And if there was a Bro Code, Article 4 clearly states: A Bro never discloses the existence of the Bro Code to a woman.
So this is for all the Bros in the audience. No gurlz aloud!
In The Bro Code you should expect the expected. These laws are universal. They are inbred into every man and so are the jokes, but who cares? They're funny.
Here's a quick test to see if you'll like this book: If you at least snorted when that news-chick read off the fake "Korean" names--Wi Tu Low, Ho Lee fuk, etc. you'll like this book, nay, you'll love this book. If instead you tried to contact a lawyer because you were personally offended, might I suggest Pride and Prejudice. If you enjoyed this review you'll probably like my Youtube reviews--be warned, I enjoy some good snark!
A fast, funny read. I laughed so hard and rolled my eyes so many times, I'm surprised they didn't roll right out of my head!
The book is short - only a paragraph per page. Perfect given the fact the author's target audience is men. =)
Lots of funny, stupid rules like ... "A Bro is under no obligation to open a door for anyone. If women insist on having their own professional basketball league, then they can open their own doors. Honestly, they're not that heavy."
AND
"If a chick inquires about another Bro's sexual history, the Bro shall honor the Brode of Silence and play dumb. Better to have women think all men are stupid than to tell the truth."
AND
"A Bro never wears jeans to a strip club." Why you ask? One word, two syllables, three hours in the ER: zipper. (Plus you don't feel it so much on your kazoo!)
If you're a fan of How I Met Your Mother's Barney Stinson and frat boy humor, you'll get a kick outta this one.
Finally the "Bro Code" by Barney Stinson from T.V. Show "How I Met Your Mother" yeah its fiction. But its been mentioned so many times in the show that actually seeing the book was awesome. Collection of Bro Codes as per Barney nuff said!!!
People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put I just love reading and so to that end I have made it my motto to just Keep on Reading. I love to read everything except for Self Help books but even those once in a while. I read almost all the genre but YA, Fantasy, Biographies are the most. My favorite series is, of course, Harry Potter but then there are many more books that I just adore. I have bookcases filled with books which are waiting to be read so can't stay and spend more time in this review, so remember I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just .
2015 challenge - a book based on or turned into a TV show
I'll start off by saying I love How I Met Your Mother, that I love Barney and that I will try to refrain from bringing up that infamous series finale. Except I just mentioned it. Okay, let's start again.
I love the show and Barney Stinson is definitely one of the main reasons for its success. I was glad to find his humor from the show transferred to the pages.
The book is a very quick read, since each article takes up only one page, so don't let the number of pages fool you into thinking you're in for a meaningful read. Humorous and straight to the point, accompanied with a couple of crosswords and alike that the reader can try to solve, this is a great book if you have some time to kill.
I could actually hear Barney's voice while reading this book. It's really short and fun to read... If you've watched HIMYM you've probably guessed what kind of content there is....Just don't take anything seriously and have fun reading this. ...💙💙
If you watch the show "How I met your Mother", then you're not going to really get anything new... pretty much all the jokes and codes have been mentioned. So, it's not quite as wonderful as I had hoped. However, I am relieved that the author's did stay true to the show. Instead of gushing or ranting like I usually do, I figure I'll just give you a few rules 'you ought to be living by'... if you want to be a bro (and yes ladies, the book answers our question... we, too can be a bro!)
Article 27
A bro never removes his shirt in fron of other bros, unless at a resort pool or the beach. Corollary: A bro with a coat of fur on his back keeps that thing covered at all times, even at resort pool or the beach. Sorry Bro. (Agreed)
Article 73 When a group of Bros are in a resaurant, each shall engage in the time-honored ritual of jockeying to pay the bill, regardless of affordability. when the group ultimately decides to divide the check, each Bro shall act upset rather than enormously relieved.
Article 91 If a group of Bros suspect that their Bro is trying to give himself a nickname, they shall rally to call him by an adjacent yet more demeaning nickname.
Article 93 Bros don't speack french to one another. .
I'm sure you see what a gem we have here... but I wouldn't rush out to buy it... wait until it winds up in the dollar bin at Barnes and Noble and then it might be a toss up. This book is one of those books I wouldn't be suprised to see on the back of some single guys' toilet... just sayin'!
OKay, for anyone who is either a Neil Patrick Harris fan, or avidly watches How I Met Your Mother, I would seriously reccomend getting this book. It is hilarious and stays very true to Barneys character. I will warn you however those o you who do not care to find out for themselves, that there are a few inconsistancies. In season three a few articles from this sacred book are mentioned and although they are all in the actual book, the article numbers do not all match up. Sorry.
For those of you who enjoyed this I would also reccomend the following site:
Enjoy

The Bro Code
Man, let me start by saying I love Barney. He is the best EVAH. The book is funny, but I have to say that the audio makes all the difference. This guy have this way of saying the nastiest things and yet, I find him charming as hell. If I could meet him I would totally be his Bro-Chick.
Barney, you rock and I would set you up with any of mine big boobed friends, anytime Bro. Just say the word LoL
Speaking in friends, When I’ve heard you talking about Chick Code I was like, say what??
I guess I missed school the day that the teacher called all the girls to teach about the Chick Code cose I didn’t know that there was one. But, apparently, I was dead wrong. Thanks Barney for putting me on the loop on that,, you rock!
I love the series and this book is so funny and fun to read, but I wanted more details about the articles. The 69 was the best BTW..LoL the Notes and “how to was inspiring. I was very tired and my head was about to explode when this book appeared in my path. By the end of it I was laughing my ass off and big part of it was Barney’s voice and intonation and plain awesomeness.
In honor of him I want to request a high six. Barney, this is for you Bro!!!
This reading is part of the following Reading Challenges:
This one is a really short read. and you should read it on any of these situations:
1. you had a bad day and need something funny to read.
2. you are having a stressful day and need a moment of escape.
3. you really want to read something easy, not complicated, funny and short because you are simply not in the mood for other things.
4. you want to know- even if only a little- what's going through their head
5. you are not offended by jokes about blondes, boobs, chicks, ho's and relationship AND you have 5-10 minutes to spare (pssst...if you don't then make time)
6. they talk about OUR code.
7. after you'll read it you'll have a great laugh when you see a guy breaks the bro code.
Just one thing to remember- when reading this book don't take it too seriously at all. just enjoy yourself! :P
Well, the book was really entertaining. So good that I could imagine Barney lecturing while re-enacting his tricks! But the problem is, some parts of the code are not suitable for some readers. In fact, some people might find these parts offensive. So I am just recommending this book to my fellow bros out there. Tired? Stressed-out? Grab this book now and make life more awesome!
Hmm... it's apparent from the written reviews that those (not to point fingers, but particularly girls) who are rating this "book" one or two stars are taking it quite seriously. Relax–this was not meant to be the Bible for all those of the male gender. However, you could picture a select few losers legitimately following these sacred rules, and then others just calling out different articles for the sake of pretending to adhere to this formal "Bro Code," because admittedly, it is fun. As a big fan of How I Met Your Mother and particularly Sir Barney Stinson, I found this a humourous and enjoyable read.
Este libro sí es gracioso. No se necesita conocer la serie "how I met your mother" para disfrutarlo (yo nunca la he visto).
A funny tongue-in-cheek set of rules for all "Bros" to follow, written by a fictional character from How I Met Your Mother. It made me laugh quite a bit. I listened to the audiobook and Neil Patrick Harris is a great narrator. It's fun.
Barney Stinson is one of my favorite TV characters. He unapologetically banged his way through most of the female population of New York City using his Playbook and The Bro Code. I purchased this book as a gift for my brother who is a huge fan of the show as well (he named his pets after some of the characters). Apparently I'm that person who reads a book before giving it to the person it was bought for (very carefully though... you'd never know anyone even opened it). This book is written in the voice of PG TV version Barney Stinson, so there's nothing too scandalous. I was kind of hoping it would be more like the chapter Neil Patrick Harris wrote in Barney's voice for his autobiography: more realistic, extremely vulgar and a bit shocking to even the most desensitized of us. It was still super funny though. I'll definitely read the Playbook.
I am in a "How I met your mother" withdrawal so this came by perfectly! Barney and his rules always amuse me and I think I could read this 100 times and laugh every time.
In one of the episodes of “How I Met Your Mother, Neil Patrick Harris character, Barney, talks about a book called “The Bro Code, a book about how a man (i.e. BRO) should act. I like Barney’s character and specially NPH’s portrayal of it. NPH is the best part of that show. So I figured, the audiobook about that book read out by Neil Patrick Harris should be great.
But it gets extremely old extremely fast. The book is a series of rules about how a man should act and it is only funny as one liners in the show, but not as a whole series read one by one. Most jokes are typical sitcom stereotype portrayals of guys. Marriage sucks, men like sex, toilet seats should be up and they can’t ask for directions. For almost two hours
Example of the Codes are as follows,
“If a chick enquires about another bros sexual history, a bro shall honor the Br-ode of silence and play dumb. Better to have women think that all men are stupid than to tell the truth.
“A bro shall not sleep with another bro’s sister. However, a bro shall not get angry if another bro says "Dude, your sister’s hot!!". Corollary, it is probably better for everyone if bros just hide pictures of their sisters when other bros are coming over. When in doubt refer to the check list for bro-proofing your home.
“When flipping through TV channels with his Bros, a Bro is not allowed to skip past a program featuring boobs. This includes but is not limited to, exercise shows, women's athletics, and on some occasions surgery programs.
“A Bro doesn't let another Bro get a tattoo, particularly a tattoo of a girls name. The average relationship between a man and a woman lasts 83 days. The relationship between man and his skin lasts a life time and must be nurtured because the skin is the largest and second most important organ a man has.
You get the idea. Fun, but put them in a show, not read them (or listen to them) one after another in a book that lists more than hundred of these.
