Duke's Splendid Encounter

Rate this book
Can a half-truth lead to romance?

Miss Clementine Dante does not understand the concept of prioritizing duties over marrying for love. She is considered naive by her older sisters, who place a high value on finding a suitable match, preferably with a Duke. When Clementine meets the man of her dreams, her entire world crumbles and she flees to live with her aunt. She had no idea that the handsome man she had met before would reappear in her life at her workplace. Has fate provided her with another chance encounter with the handsome man from the market?

Alexander, the acting Duke of Denver, aspires to be the best leader he can be in his new role. He had no idea that his plan to blend in with commoners in order to learn more about their lives would lead him to meet a lovely lady who haunts his dreams. A chance meeting at a ball brings them back together, but he does not reveal his true identity to her. Will he be able to win her heart, or will duty separate them?

I enjoyed this story. I felt that many of the characters were well written.

This was a fine, clean story. It just felt like the author wanted a Regency setting without really researching how things were back then or how people talked. One scene near the beginning of the story has the Heroine being attacked by her own sister, IN THE STREET as they go home from an event. I highly doubt that people hoping to catch a husband in the ton would have acted like that in public. The conversation also felt horribly modern. The plot itself was nice but not quite enough to overcome the problems in the little details, sadly.

I enjoyed the book but was confused as to the actual era it was taking place in. I don’t believe that Regency era ladies would be fighting in the streets nor speaking in the ways these girls did. There is one sentence where Clementine is thinking of Alexander and she wonders whether they are connected through the ether. Did they know of ether in that time period? Anyway on the whole it was a clean story and of course true love won out. I will read Amelia again to see what she puts out next. R. K. H. Carulli

I really enjoyed this book. Rather than being realistic, it has a fairy tale atmosphere that made me lose track of time while I was reading it. I also like the fact that there is a happy ending for everyone, not only the main characters.

These little short books are very unsatisfying. You don’t get to know anything about the characters. Give me a book with 40 chapters. I want to know these people. I don’t want them to fall in love the moment they meet. It’s just not realistic.
