Networking is not an innate it is a technique that can be learned, honed, and applied with amazing results.
Written by a psychologist and regular contributor to the Financial Times, Guardian, BBC, and CNN, "Networking" addresses the how, why, and who of networking to enable virtually anyone to grasp the key skills and get a leg up on their career.
The book contains hints, tips, and advice on how to keep people's attention on you, your business card in the rolodex and out of the trash, and how to build the relationships you need to achieve your goals.
Networking can be scary for some people and natural for others. I wanted some advice on the subject so I read this book. It’s full of good solid advice. Beware that it is written pre-social media so remember that much has changed on this subject. However, I wouldn’t say the fundamentals have changed - and that’s what this book does well - fundamentals. One thing I’ll point out is that it’s a British book, which might not seem like a big deal, but it did seem strangely obvious to me (probably because I can be a bit of an obnoxious American at times). Anyways, it’s a good quick book and I give it 4 stars out of 5 simply because it lacks the life changing factor that I normally associate with 5 star books.
