DNFed by page 50. Poorly executed and not well edited. The over the top cliched evil aunt was ridiculous and the throwing out of vampire made up myths did nothing to keep me interested.
The attraction between the heroine who must marry within a month and the dark, brooding-light vampire hero fell flat.
Victoria and her sister are orphans and penniless, forced to move to their aunt's house - the aunt that despised their mother!
Upon arrival it's made clear Victoria isn't welcome, at 22 she reminds her aunt of her mum, but the aunt intends to keep her little sister. She's then thrown an ultimatum marry within a month or never see your sister again. Victoria isn't used to the coming out ball's, she's lived in the country away from all that social must do!
Dorian has left his home country hoping to draw the hunters away from his clan, his a vampire and a Prince. It appears he has a turncoat in his clan who is helping the hunters.
Dorian and Victoria meet at a ball, Victoria isn't very comfortable searching for a man. Dorian hates these formal ball's too, so when she takes some air in the garden they get to meet.
They meet a few times and there's a pull between them, but this is old times when you had to be a lady, men could be rakes but women got tarnished if seen messing with men.
When a meeting goes further than expected as in lips meet Victoria finds herself homeless and to top it all its pouring with rain. She goes to the only person she can, sexy Dorian.
Dorian takes Victoria on and her little sister, little does he know that his took on more than he realised. When he needs to go home he plans to leave her here in safety, taken care of financially. She's having none of it and insists she's going with him, dangers and all.
They care for each other and respect each other, they have a long journey ahead. On this journey they will both find out something new about each other.
Danger is ahead of them but so is love. <3
I really liked Dorian, his stern but soft, a man of his times, he is very patient too. Victoria proved a strong woman for her man and I liked the fact she had a mind of her own and stood up for herself. There are some interesting characthers in this book that I believe feature in other books in series.
I'm not a big historical fan but when mixed with paranormal element im tempted. This book didn't disappoint, I really enjoyed the story and authors writing.
Okay so W-O-W. I absolutely loved this book. Now be prepared, I am not so good at writing reviews on books I like, so this could be painful for those who read...I am a more 'kick-'em-where-it-hurts' kinda girl.
One of the elements in this book that I enjoyed the most was how there was a development of the relationship between Dorian and Victoria. So many time we see how characters just get together and then that's it!!! Hey presto they're in love from their first second. Even though later on Victoria does admit to loving Dorian from the start, there is still this development that I thoroughly enjoyed - it made it better because you were able to fall in love with them both as they were to each other. Dorian starts out as only wanting Victoria to warm his bed - you get what I mean - and she ends up being oh so much more.
Usually I get the feeling that authors put characters into time settings just because they like them, which I despise, I believe that the time should also dictate the plot. You can't be set somewhere and totally ignore what was going on in that era, sure the characters can also dictate but it needs to be a nice melding of those factors that produce a great story. In Caressed by Moonlight you do see that throughout. Victoria is forced to live with her aunt because both her parents have recently died and she cannot afford to keep their family house because of their fathers debt. Then, forced by her aunt to marry within a month to be able to see her sister Margaret, she ends up with Dorian Vlakhos - a sexy and intriguing prince from Europe. I enjoy the forcing of the relationship (that sounds mean but it is oh, so good) because it allows the characters to have those moments of intimacy - which don't necessarily mean the physical kind - to strengthen their new relationship. You get to know their past and see their faults and strengths when they allow each other to do so.
Because there have been countless books about vampires and such, it is hard to come up with something that is original without it trying to be original for the sake of it...get me??? So although I did find this book with that original sense, it didn't seem pushy. Amanda J. Greene has managed to manipulate the conventions of the vampire genre without making them annoying, or as I said before, making them original for the sake of it. There was definite purpose in there, and she didn't change very convention as to make it ridiculous--which can happen.
The fact that every character was unique makes me fall in love with this book even more. Now that might sound stupid, but how many books have you read where the main characters best friend or brother, whatever is basically a replica of the main man himself??? The only difference being their physical description...so I was really happy when a new character was introduced that they were in their own right, themselves. You are then able to like/love certain characters more because you can relate to them.
My only fault is very small. Forgive me, I like food analogies. With Caressed by Moonlight you got the whole meal - entree, fish, meat, and even a big ol' serving of dessert. I do feel like the story ended a tad abrupt though maybe that was because I just really wanted to get to know Dorian and Victoria more. So what I a saying is that I might have wanted that naughty-after-everyone-else-is-asleep snack that no one knows about. Though this book did give me more than I deserve already, I felt I needed some said closure as to what path Victoria and Dorian were on.
We also see a cheeky ending that does leave us wanting more -- not necessarily about Victoria and Dorian either...yeah, I'll leave you hanging on that one.
Amanda J. Greene has a superb book on her hands and I cannot wait to see what this debut author has in store for us next. I believe there is another book in the works and I will read it as fast as I did this one. I love it!!!

Quick Take:Despite feeling like the language (mostly the dialogue) was something of an odd fit, I did enjoy this historical romance's main characters and premise.
Review: When I first read the premise for this book, I knew I had to read it. It's just the type of romantic dilemma that I find engaging: does one marry for love or for money...and are both possible? The book did not disappoint, as I was kept engaged throughout. But the three paragraphs noted in the book description are only part of the equation; the last sentence (about "treachery, war, and death") is where much of the real fun was.
Let me get my reservations out of the way first. I've read my fair share of historicals; in them there's this linguistic quality that lends itself to the transportation of belief (or suspension of disbelief I suppose, seeing as how none of us have experienced Edwardian/Georgian/Victorian-eras firsthand). The specialized language melts into the background, leaving the story to play effortlessly in the mind's eye. In Caressed by Moonlight, however, there was something that felt slightly off for me, something so minute as to be exceedingly difficult to describe. But whatever it was, the feeling it engendered was akin to watching Kevin Costner or Keanu Reeves in an English historical film; when the vibe is off, it pulls you out of the story. In short, the language did not really transport me in the way that I'd hoped it would.
But enough of that. What I did quite enjoy included the vampire politics and the supernaturals' overall battle for survival. That main character Dorian Vlakhos--one sexy and mysterious mofo, if I may say so--had to address not only vampire hunters but infighting and unrest within the vampire community provided considerable intrigue, keeping me wanting to know more about those dynamics. Such information is provided in smaller doses throughout the first half of the book; during that time, the romantic element is developed quite a bit. With one drastic revelation, the focus then switches to the vamp politics, but there's still a nice combination of the romantic elements and the dramatically heroic.
The characters in this book were engaging. Victoria Kingston is a many-faceted character, stuck between a rock and a hard place but nonetheless determined to do right by her loved ones. Her progression through a relatively mundane situation (well, if being threatened with homelessness can be considered mundane) to a fantastical one is fun to watch. Dorian's own rake-to-hero transformation was likewise sweet and swoon-worthy.
Overall, I did indeed like this book. The premise pulled me in easily, and the characters' interactions--as well as the broader struggles--kept me there. As it happens, the next book in this series is actually a contemporary paranormal romance; I'd like to check it out, as (of course) my hangups over the language will be moot.
Victoria Kingston's early life hasn't been easy. Following the death and her mother and suicide of her father, it's up to her to take care of her younger sister. With no money and choice, they are forced to move to London to stay with a resentful aunt. Giving her an impossible ultimatum to marry a random suitor by the end of the month, Victoria tries her best to find a suitable gentlemen, or she surely will lose guardianship of her sister forever.
Crossing paths with Dorian Vlakhos, playboy aristocrat and secret vampire king, she tries to resist his whiles. But she is no match, especially as Dorian places his promiscuous side in check for good. While appealing and seemingly perfect, Dorian's secret puts Victoria and her family at risk. As the target of witches and hunters, there is an all out war between their kind and he must fight for his people. But can he keep his new beloved safe?
I enjoyed Amanda Greene's efforts with this book. It was a very light and breezy read, even with the drama, conflict and tension. Dorian is ancient, but you'd never really know it. His personality seems to evolve with the times and he rarely has to drink blood. For me, the more blood the better, but it's certainly not a neglected plot point. Victoria is likable enough, but I think I liked her little sister the most. She's been through a lot of tragedy but still finds a way to be a happy and innocent child; it was sweet to see how much Victoria cared about her. That relationship resonated with me a lot, along with Dorian's interactions with her.
The romance between the starring couple certainly doesn't disappoint. Per the usual paranormal romance formula, it builds throughout the novel, but the teasing wasn't very agonizing.
While it's a period novel and the narrative is appropriate, there were times when I felt like the dialogue was too modern. I mean, how many people used the word "slut" back then? "Harlot", maybe. "Jezebel", sure! But I genuinely had to look up origins of the word just to check for consistency. Other words that bothered me were "pigheaded" and "Tory" (short for Victoria) to name a few. Though it was a minor quirk, it wasn't significant enough to hamper my overall enjoyment.
While there's nothing earth shatteringly new or original, I do recommend the book. It kept my interest fairly well and I wrapped it up in only two days. I look forward to reading the second novel, and if I wasn't pressed for time I'd probably read it immediately. But since this book is a standalone it's not completely necessary.
"The little kitten has claws," Dorian said intrigued. "I like that."~Dorian Vlakhos
I am so in love with this book. I will admit, the cover gave me pause. I'm just glad I did'nt allow me to miss out on such an amazing book. I have found yet another "sex in motion" type of male lead in Dorian Vlakhos. He is perfectly written, perfect within his flaws. He is a cursed Vampire King who is on a mission to save his people. Around town, however, he's known as the aristocrat with a very naughty reputation and the ability to turn every female head in his vicinity. Why he can ruin a ladies reputation with just one dance. Again....sex in motion.
Tragedy strikes, leading Victoria Kingston and her little sister Margaret on the doorstep of their bitter old Aunt Nelly. Victoria is a disgrace to the family name and Aunt Nelly wants her gone. She must marry within 30 days or never see her little sister again. With little Margaret being Victoria's whole world, she sets out on a mission to find a husband.
The two worlds collide when Dorian spies Victoria for the first time at a social event. It was lust at first sight and he was determined to get her into his bed. He was'nt prepared to be challenged and met toe to toe by this fiesty lovely. She knew the rumors and told him as much. She was on a mission and could'nt be bothered with his sexual conquests. Even though he stirred feelings in her that she never knew existed.
I would best describe Caressed by Moonlight as an erotic, historical, paranormal romance. For me, this equalls win/win. The author really brought the chemistry off the page. The battle of the wits made for such an entertaining read. This book has some exceptionally hot and steamy sex scenes while at the same time, building on such a raw, romantic love story, it was so easy to get lost in this book. It has everything, sexy vamps, strong women, romance, action and a great supporting cast. Ms. Greene's take on Dorian's history, how he was changed was just...perfect.
I cannot wait for Caressed by Night to be released!! Brilliant.
Normally I tend to stay away from Regency romances because the heroines are under such societal restrictions, it just makes my blood boil and the old left eye twitch. Victoria proved to be a wonderful exception. Although she understood the need for a possible loveless marriage, she went about it in a very intelligent and practical manner. She was no whimpering miss. Victoria took a lot of HARD knocks and handled them with grace, dignity and intelligence. I greatly admired her resilience and her ability to think on her feet. She stood by her decisions on honored her responsibilities without the "oh, poor me" whine. Yay!!! She was also ready and more than willing to explore her sensuality. (another big YAY!!)
Dorian was under a tremendous yoke of responsibility. His primary duty was to save his people. He was also under a curse, and he knew the chances of finding his mate were infinitesimal. So, when he first encounters Victoria, he attributes his fascination to extreme lust. Silly man. Of course, in typical man-like fashion his is in a state of ultimate deniability. Bed her and leave her was his plan. Hah! Not this chickie! She has a backbone. So accept your fate and enjoy the fabulous sex....oh, and go kill some bad guys. They are the fly in the ointment.......the bastards.
Ms. Greene's style of story telling was very reminiscent of the great Johanna Lindsey and Catherine Coulter. She had a firm grasp of what would intrigue and hold the readers attention. her characters were entertaining and likable. The romantic episodes were steamy to say the least, and I am looking forward to seeing a lot more from this young, talented author. There are some VERY interesting secondary characters I would LOVE to see more of. (hint, hint) I can give a very honest and straight forward WELL DONE on this book. For me to enjoy a Regency is truly a remarkable feat.

My Thoughts: This was a was a solid story. It was a interesting take on vampires from foregone error. I like how the story transitions from urbane London to the obscure Transylvania. The characters were likable. I praise Victoria for her willingness to marry for her sister's stability even at the potential sacrifice of love for herself. However, I was happy to see that she found love in that stability. And who wouldn't love Dorian. He was a shameless, gorgeous flirt but he was a noble one. He had the best interest of his clan in mind first, which is what originally drove him to London. But upon meeting Victoria, he divided his energy and effort into keeping both her and little Margaret safe as well as sustaining the legacy of his clan.
I think I had more problems with the era than the actual story. I like historical romances when they come in the form of a beefy highlander swinging a broadsword.
Review also on my blog 3.5 of 5 stars I commend the author, Amanda J Greene for her work, Caressed By Moonlight. This is great work for a debut novel. Caressed by Moonlight combines historical romance with paranormal, for a new spin on a vampire romance novel. The story is set in Regency England, with the main character, Dorian, visiting London to throw off hunters, witches, who seek to kill Dorian’s clan. Victoria is a lovely heroine, literally and figuratively. I instantly liked Victoria’s character, and sympathized with her tough situation. Ms. Greene did a very good job at creating the chemistry between Dorian and Victoria, and the story was both exciting and enchanting.
There were just a few issues I had in this novel. Mainly, my issue was timing. Early in the novel, a hunter identifies Victoria, and it was unclear how he found out about her as Dorian had only met Victoria briefly himself. The passage of time was also unclear in places, often when the characters were traveling I was confused as to how much time had passed. There were several areas where timing was confusing, however, these issues were fairly minor.
With an enchanting historical setting, sizzling romance, and an exciting, well-developed plot, Caressed by Moonlight is a commendable debut novel. I look forward to reading more of Amanda J Greene’s work in the future, and I can’t wait to see what the characters are up to next.
This was such a good book! Victoria has lost both of her parents and had to sell everything to take care of her fathers debts. She shows up at her hated aunts house with her little sister. Her aunt gives her a month to be married or shell be kicked out and won't be able to ever see her sister again. Her friend Lana starts taking her to balls to introduce her to a potential husband. Victoria meets prince Dorian who is a actually a vampire king. Witches are killing off Dorian's clan and he's come to London to trick them. There's no denying Dorian and Victoria's feelings for one another. He finds out what her aunt is up to and offers to marry her. Shortly after they are married they leave to go to Dorian's home, while en route she finds out he's a vampire. They discover they are mates and Victoria begins the change. Meanwhile they have to get Dorian back to his clan, kill the traitor, and Victoria has to survive her change to immortal queen.
I loved this book and the difficulties the characters have to face. Victoria and her little sister have been settled into there aunts house. And right away the aunt makes Victoria her place in her house, which is lower than a spec of dust. Soon though the aunt and Vicky make a deal: if she can get a husband for the end of the month Victoria gets to keep her sister; if she can't then the aunt gets to keep her and she wont be able to see her ever. So Victoria and her friend go husband hunting. There is were King Dorian of the vampires gets to know her. His advances are not wanted until her aunt finds out that she is with a rake. Then Victoria gets kicked out of the house. Well I can't say more with out giving away the whole story so everyone should read this book.
Really liked this book and the start of a new series. I didn't connect with the characters like I was hoping to but I still enjoyed it a lot. Victoria just plain got on my nerves. Just when I thought I couldn't stand her anymore, the table is turned and Dorian is the one being dense. There isn't a dull moment while reading this and a few parts that made me laugh out loud.
First thing I'll say is that this book desperately needed an editor...or a better one at least. There were so many times where things made no sense or words were missing. I can also completely understand the people that quit this book before getting half way thru. The beginning really wasn't all that interesting. However, when I got passed the middle it got so much better and I finally started to enjoy it. I really like how the vampire society is set up here, and how the Kings' only hope for survival is to the be true King of their clan and be gifted with a destined mate. The different witch clans also had some interesting ones.
Victoria, having lost both of her parents, has to take care of her much younger sister. Something she doesn't mind, she loves the girl so much, but when their father died he left some rather large debts. Forcing Victoria to sell their house and move to London to live with their aunt in order to make sure her sister is provided for. Saying her aunt hates her would be a vast understatement. Backing Victoria into a corner she forces her to agree to a deal. Either marry by the end of the month, or she will lose all rights to her sister. No pressure.
Which is why the beginning of this book just wasn't all that great. Victoria fortunately had a friend in the city that she could talk to and spend her time with. She also had no problem making it so that Victoria was able to meet many of the most eligible bachelors. So yeah. The whole almost first half of the book was Victoria going to parties, meeting guys, avoiding her aunt and stressing over her dwindling time. But it is at one of these parties that she meets Dorian.
Dorian is the King of his vampire clan. He's also one of the oldest vampires still alive, as well as one of the strongest. I really liked him and for many reasons. He has come to London because a group of witches called the Red Order have been killing his people and he hopes to lure them away. As well as the traitor he knows is back home. The humans have assigned him the role of a prince and he plays it well (he is a KING after all). But he is also quite the womanizer and rumors abound about him everywhere. No matter that most of them are false. He rarely accepts the invitations that he's given to attend parties, but when he actually shows up to one he immediately becomes obsessed with having Victoria in his bed.
Despite the fact that he is always on her mind, Victoria does not want Dorian on her list of possible husbands. But she cannot deny how he makes her feel and how he is always there for her. The more time they spend together, the more she likes him. And when her aunt throws her out of the house, Victoria can think of nobody else to turn to for help. What she never expected was for him to ask her marry him in order to save her. And after thinking about it, she agrees. Not like she has much choice at this point. But Dorian is ever patient with her and he never forces her to do anything she doesn't want to, only making her fall for him more and more. Marrying a mortal was never something he thought he would do, but Victoria quickly becomes more than just another conquest in his bed. He's honestly starting to care about her.
Unfortunately, this happy reprieve of Dorian's doesn't last long before his vampire life needs to come first. The hunters have followed him, but the one leading this group is now targeting Victoria. He has the proof he needs against his traitor, but it almost cost him his most trusted knight. It is time for him to return home and he finds himself not wanting to leave Victoria...but he also can't take her. Well. Not until another of his friends makes a point, forcing him to acknowledge some things.
Victoria refuses to let him leave her behind, and from there she gets thrown into a world she obviously never thought was even real. On their trip back, Dorian almost loses himself to the beast inside of him and its hunger for blood. But Victoria is able to figure things out and save him from himself. Which leads to him accidentally bonding them together forever. Not that either of them will be complaining about it.
I liked how Dorian dealt with the traitor and how he was actually portrayed like a real king would be. He would be benevolent with those who had no choice in their actions, but those who were completely on board would be put to death. None of this 'oh I will just forgive everyone and hope it never happens again' crap. Realism people. Some other authors need to look into it. Anyway. I was very happy with how everything went down from the moment that Dorian and Victoria stepped on to the boat. The only thing I was not happy about was how it abruptly just ended. With the epilogue not really an epilogue at all. I was so looking forward to Dorian telling his people that he found his mate and introducing them to their new queen. But we got none of that. He defeats the bad guy, and saves his love. The end. Not what I wanted.
Aside from the two main characters, there were others that I really liked or that I am super curious about. Like Jacque Spinle. He is a general in the Red Order but he doesn't hate all vampires. Some he even respects. Like Dorian. I was shocked by all he does in this book to help him and really wanted to know more about him. Why would a vampire hunter act like he did? Too bad the respect factor is all we find out about him.
Overall, I enjoyed the latter half of the book definitely enough to make up for the first and I hope the next one continues on the high note.
Caressed by Moonlight is the first book in The Rulers of Darkness series. Based on the series name I thought this would have been a dark read. However, this was not the sase. The story met my expectations and I have the second book lined up on my kindle ready and waiting. This is an intriguing read with interesting characters and a fantastic world, which will feed the cravings of fans of both paranormal and historical romance.
Dorian Vlakhos, head of the Mylonas Clan is a vampire king. A member of the Red Order (an organized group of witches) has been hunting and killing the members of his clan. To protect his clan he travelled to London knowing the hunter would follow him thus protecting his clan from further annihilation. To draw attention to himself snd make it easy for his enemies to find him he attended as much high society events as possible. He never expected to meet his mate in the process. Finding his mate broke an ancient curse that came into effect when he became the leader of his clan.
Victoria Kingston lost her parents and found herself saddled with a mountain of debts. Unable to care for her sister as a result she went to stay with an aunt who despised her. Her aunt gave her an ultimatum to find a husband in one month or she would be living in the streets without her sister. With the help of a friend Victoria set on a quest to find herself a husband, which would helpp her to regain custody of her sister.
I enjoyed getting to know the main characters. I loved their banter, which was fun, sexy and pensive. I admired Victoria’s strength in the face of adversity. She took all her aunt threw at her and never once did she falter from her quest. I found her determination to rescue her sister from her aunt’s clutches even if it meant marrying a man she did not love admirable. She refused to let her aunt’s hatred deter from her goal. Determined, strong and independent are words I would use to describe Victoria. She is a fighter and would sacrifice all for those she loved. She impressed me when she willingly embraced Dorian’s culture, lifestyle and vampire nature.
Dorian is a seducer of women. When he met Victoria, he knew without a doubt he wanted her. His intent was to make her his mistress, but he would learn that things do not rarely go as planned. He is arrogant, confident, and possessive. He goes after what he wants with no apologies. He is a rogue who displayed courteous characteristics.
Secondary characters added intrigue and danger to the couples journey. I loved the role they each played in the development of the story. Victoria’s aunt was my least favourite. She is a mean, bitter old hag and her hatred towards Victoria was unwarranted.
I found the romance between the main characters enjoyable. However, it was not without its challenges. Victoria’s association with Dorian places her in mortal danger. What started out as a marriage of convenience slowly developed into something meaningful. They both tried to fight their feelings but in the end love won the battle. The action scenes were well executed and I found them exciting and captivating. I loved the world created and the author’s take on vampires.
I relished every moment spent with the characters and the world. However, I thought the ending could be better developed. The story ended on an abruptly. There was an epilogue, but its focus was on the next book in the series.
Conclusion/Recommendation Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I am looking forward to reading the remaining books in the series.
Her voice brushed chills down his spine. He was afraid to turn around, to look upon her. His muscles clenched as he stood perfectly still.
“Yes? he asked, his throat dry. His cold heart tightened as he listened to her cross the floor. She stood behind him, he could feel her, smell her, taste her. She placed a warm, small, thin hand on his shoulder and he shuddered.
Victoria came up to her tiptoes; leaned against his hard back, and lightly whispered, “Make love to me.
A tremor of excitement and pure happiness shook him as he turned. Dorian took her lips in a ferocious kiss that snatched her breath away and left her helpless. She fell against him, her limbs liquid. He did not need to be asked twice and he was not about to give her the chance to change her mind. He could not possibly wait any longer. He needed her. Now.
Victoria - an orphan - yang mengharapkan perlindungan dr bibinya (adik perempuan ayahnya) malah mendapatkan ultimatum dr bibinya yg sgt membencinya karena kemiripannya dgn ibunya yg diyakinin bibinya sbg "bitch" dan penyebab kematian ayahnya untuk menikah dlm wkt 1 bln krn bibinya tdk mengizinkannya tgl lbh dr 1 bulan dgnnya dan tdk mengizinkannya bertemu adiknya (Margareth) sehingga meminta bantuannya temannya - Layne untuk menemukan suami potensial yg bisa membantu mslhnya, tentunya dgn menghadiri pesta-pesta kalangan atas dan membuat list para lord yg layak utk Victoria.
Dorian - sang raja vampire - harus lari dari negara dan clannya untuk menghindari kejaran seorang traitor (kay) yang bekerjasama dgn witch (dimana sejak dl vampire - witch sdh berseteru akibat keganasan vampire yg membunuh manusia shg para witch bertindak sebagai pelindung manusia walau hal tsb terjadi berabad-abad lalu dan tdk terjadi lg di masa pemerintahan Dorian) ingin membunuh Dorian krn ambisinya utk menjadi pengganti Dorian - raja vampire.
Vitoria dan Dorian bertemu di sebuah pesta dan sejak pertama bertemu mrk sdh saling tertarik , Victoria yg cantik dan mulutnya yg tajam dan jg pintar sementara Dorian yg dark, tall, handomse and rich blm lagi skandal yg tertera didirinya malah membuat semua wanita makin penasaran :) tp tdk dengan Victoria yg malah hrs selalu menghindari dan menolak Dorian selain itu Dorian yg tdk pernah terlibat dgn wanita manapun semula jg hanya menginginkan Victoria utk memenuhi gairahnya.
Namun pertemuan-pertemuan membuat mrk semakin sulit utk memungkiri ketertarikan tsb terlebih ancaman seorg witch - Wright yg tau bhw Dorian tetarik kpd Victoria, membuat Dorian perduli (yg sehrsnya tdk dirasakannya) dan berusaha utk melindungi Victoria dan gosip pun bermunculan krn kedekatan mrk dan satu ciuman dr Victoria yg terlihat bibinya membuat Victoria di usir oleh bibinya shg membuat Victoria yg menemui jalan buntut terpaksa mencari Dorian dan Dorian yg lagi-lagi tdk mengerti diirinya dan merasa tlh me-ruin hidup Victoria memutuskan utk menikahi Victoria yg awalnya ditolak Victoria. (Alasan klise bagaimana Dorian yg menurut dia serba "wah". diminatin para wanita mau menikah dgnnya tp akhirnya diterima Victoria krn tdk ada jalan lain lg krn menang Dorian yg bs membantunya :))
Yang membuat saya suka dgn Dorian :
1. Tdk hanya menikahi Victoria utk menyelamatkan nya dr gosip, dia jg membantu Victoria merebut Margareth dr tangan bibinya yg kejam dan picik
2. Dorian tdk hanya perhatian dan sayang kepada Victoria tp jg syg dan perhatian kpd Margareth
3. Mau menerima syarat dr Victoria utk selibat agar mrk bs saling mengenal walau tentu saja Dorian sdh sangat ingin bersama dgn Victoria ditempat tidur sejak pertama kali melihat Victoria - good man dan bkn tipe pemaksa :)
4. Membelikan semua kebutuhan Victoria dan Margareth
5. bobo bareng mrk dashyat hoho
"Soulmate - Many vampires believed the story to be a myth; something the Fathers had cooked up to give their successors hope. It was a story told around the fire and was never believed. Every king before had fallen ill and met their end. It seemed that peace would never come to their world. If Dorian had found her, then all was not lost."
Rute perjalanan yg diambil Dorian yg dimaksud utk menghindari para traitor membawa mrk menuju castle - queen sonya, lagi-lagi Dorian mendesak utk meninggalkan Victoria dan Margareth di bwh perlindungan queen sonya, tmn baik Dorian ditolak oleh Victoria yg stubborn. Dan membawanya menghadap Kay.
Lalu berhasil Dorian menyelesaikan misinya dlm menghentikan usaha Kay merebut kerajaannya? Lalu mampukah Victoria melalui transisi / mutasi dr mortal menjadi vampire, melawan poison vampire yg mengalir dlm darah yg sering byk wanita gagal dlm transisi tsb shg byk vampire pria dlm race mrk?
ini buku pertama yg saya baca tentang para bangsawan + vampire dan critanya benar-benar menarik dan cocok bgt buat yg sk historial romance dan paranomal romance apalg ttg vampire :)
This is the first book in the Masters of Darkness series by Amanda Greene. It is indeed an impressive work for a new author and first book. The story is a paranormal adult romance with vampires as the primary characters but not the only supernatural beings. We also have shifters and witches. The story begins with our heroine, Victoria Kingston. Her parents have died and left her without enough money to raise her sister. She turns to an aunt that lives in London with the hope she would provide for them until Victoria can get on her feet. The aunt is evil and hates Victoria because she looks like her mother, the woman her aunt believes was trash. The first half of the book involves Victoria attempting to fulfill an impossible deal made with her aunt. She must find a suitable, titled, and wealthy husband within 30 days or she can never see her sister again. The aunt is willing to raise the younger sister, Margaret, with the clear understanding that Victoria would not be part of the girl’s life. Victoria turns to a privileged friend, Lana, to introduce her to London society and to identify a man who meets the criteria. The story takes place in 1814 so we have all the Regency period sensibilities and social restrictions. Our hero, Dorian Vlakhos, is a handsome and wealthy foreign Prince who has been labeled by polite society as a rake. A woman’s reputation is ruined for spending five minutes in his company. In reality he is a vampire King who is actually in London on the downlow to draw hunters away from his people who are being slaughtered to extinction. He eyes Victoria at a ball and decides he would like to have a taste because he is a bit of a rake at heart. The two have an instant attraction but Victoria is no fool, she knows he only wants to bed her so she continues her search as time and options run out. The back and forth courtship that is not a courtship is entertaining and sexy. I really liked this couple and wanted them to have their HEA.
After Victoria has a particularly nasty fight with her evil aunt, she is thrown out on the street in the rain with no place to go and without her sister. In desperation, she turns to Dorian for help thinking he could advise he on who she could turn to for a quick marriage. Dorian decides that he cares for her and that he would give her what she needs. She agrees to the marriage because she has no choice. This is where the problems begin to mount. First of all, she does not know that he is a vampire. Secondly, she also does not know that the hunters are actually witches. Lastly, she does not know he is slowing going insane and will die soon unless he finds his mate. I know that is a familiar storyline but the presentation is unique and I found it creative and well conceived.
The second half of the book dealt with the love story and the dangers presented by the witches along with a vampire named Kal who wants to take over Dorian’s clan and territory. Dorian finds out how serious his problems have become back home and decides he must return to save his people without Victoria. She was not having that, so they embark on a journey to his homeland during which much is revealed and new friendships are formed. There are many supporting characters, mostly vampires, that I hope will get their own books in time.
This book had only one weakness for me the lack of magic. The witches did not do one single magical thing. They pretty much would pop up in a scene and make some mouthy treats. There are some magical artifacts that come into the story but we never see the witches do battle. Granted, this story had a lot to say and some things, I believe, will be revealed in future books. But witches should be throwing fireballs or something when fighting vamps not just talking smack. These are supposed to be powerful beings but we don’t see what the hype is about. I am going to hope that gets rectified in future installments. Or they need to be written out of the story. They are useless.
I highly recommend this book to vampire romance fans. The series has everything you could need interesting characters, unique vampire elements, rivalries, violence, and amazing sex. Bravo Ms. Greene! You done good.
(4.5 star - Top Pick, review written by Talina Perkins for Night Owl Reviews) Plot:
Before reading Caressed by Moonlight I had forgotten how much I love historical romance. Amanda J. Greene has returned my love for bodices and dancing while giving me so much more. I have a strong love for paranormal romance that has spice sprinkled throughout the entire story and Ms. Greene added the right amount of vampires with a strong sex appeal and an alpha male...how could resist! This book is definitely one of those stories that lacks nothing when it comes to the sizzling connection between the hero and heroine, Dorian and Victoria. I still can't stop thinking about the chemistry they shared on the dance floor. A little of that is shared in the teaser section above. I also found the unique paranormal world for Ms. Greene new series fabulous and thrilling to step into. Her vampires are as powerful as they are alluring and sexy. She has a great take on her world and her characters and allows the setting a place in her story instead of using it just a prop. Layered with suspense, desire, and a sense of family in equal quantity there was not a moment in this story that didn't speak to me. The theme of family and loyalty was well balanced by the villain's need for revenge. Threaded together, it all made an exciting story that I couldn't put down and in fact finished in less than a day. The author took a vampire king and a mortal woman, threw them together and allowed their characters and surroundings to push them through finding their footing and their place at each others side. All secondary characters added a depth to the story I feel was spot on; not to much and definitely not to little. While the story is about Victoria and Dorian finding their way through needing one another, whether they want to accept it or not, it is also about Dorian regaining his control over his clan and territory. Their is blood shed and broken hearts as well as moments I thought all would be lost. When I came to the end and found that moment when all was not lost I smiled and sighed in relief only to be teased with a prologue of how the second book in the series will be started. I CAN"T WAIT!
Writing:
Amanda J. Greene is a debut author that readers will take notice of and fast. She knows how to give readers what they want and exactly how they want it. She has a very smooth hand in delivering romance and passion while giving the right amount of suspense and thrills. She writes with great description and is destined to make the bestsellers list once readers find out just how talented she really is. I had to verify three times that she is in fact and Indie Author. Publishers would love this author!
Characters:
Victoria is the best friend I never had and wanted. Strong determined and loyal to those she loves this heroine was perfect for this story. Stubborn and at times pushy she endeared me to her from page one. She is a character that did what had to be done and refused to leave her mates side once she knew what she was facing. Come to think about it, even when she didn't know what she was facing she was still there willing to fight for what she believed in and darn determined to make sure she was never left out of the going-ons. I liked that. To many heroines are push overs allowing the hero to decide what is good for them. Victoria is not one of those! Dorian, he is definitely the kind of hero that would and did try to tell Victoria what to do. I loved watching him falling under the spell of love and his animalistic tendency to take Victoria by surprise each time he couldn't control the feelings inside him any more. Sexy, strong and powerful this vampire king stole my heart the moment he told Victoria to look into his eyes while they were dancing. A perfect gentleman yet daring and such a seducer. Two characters you loved watching fall in love!
Last Thoughts:
This author, this story, this series, is a must read for all paranormal romance lovers! Amanda J. Greene is an author I will not forget! I am anxiously awaiting the second installment to this series aimed to come out in February 2012 titled, Caressed by Night.
Amazing debut by Amanda J. Greene! Supernatural Romance readers will find a new vampire to swoon over, Dorian Vlakhos, the King of the Mylonas Clan!
1814. Victoria and her little sister Margaret arrive in London after their mother died of illness and their father took his own life after losing his wife. They are homeless and penniless, and in the mercy of their Aunt who despises Victoria and her mother - which is why she has her own terms for their stay, Margaret will stay with her and Victoria has one month to find a husband before she is kicked out of her aunt's home. If these terms are not met Victoria will never see her sister again. Assigning her friends help she enters the balls of London society to snare a wealthy man with a title to keep her sister with her and manage to provide for them.
In the London society Dorian Vlakhos is known as the Prince, but he is not a womanizing aristocrat that his reputation paints him as, but a Vampire King, and he has his eyes set on the stunningly gorgeous Victoria, who is doing her very best to avoid the scandal that follows Prince Vlakhos and gain a respectable marriage, and rights to her sister. She cannot afford to fall for Prince Vlakhos, which is why as much frustration and anger as he makes her feel she is doomed by the other feelings he stirs within her. One sweet stolen kiss though makes it clear to Victoria she cannot spend any more time with the Prince and his openly forward courting her into his bed.
Not all is well back home with Dorian's Clan and hate and war spills even to the streets of London and now that Dorian's attention is on Victoria - so is the Hunter's.
Wonderful book! Ah, I can't quite explain it, it's the suppressed women of 1800's and mixed with Vampires, Hunters and seduction it is a potent mix that makes you want to devour the book at one go. There is a delicious amount of sexual tension, hate, aggravation and attraction with Victoria and Dorian, and it keeps boiling over to the readers. In an age where appearances are everything and keeping your composure is critical a lot sure bubbles under the surface.
I loved the character of Victoria, she's strong and capable, but not in the 21st century girl in 1800's London kind of way, but strong within her limits in the society she lives in. She also warm and has a little spitfire attitude when it comes to Dorian which is so enjoyable to read. As is Dorian who grew on me immediately, he's over confident, cocky and possessive in the best possible way, he's the kind of vampire you dream at night, little wicked, sexy as hell and one who doesn't take no for an answer and keeps circling you until you give into his charm.
Read the steamy Excerpt below the rating for a little peak at "Caressed by Moonlight". @
Can't wait till February 2012 when Greene releases the second book in the Rulers of Darkness series Caressed by Night!
Two worlds collide for a sizzling historical romance with a paranormal twist!
Victorian Kingston is a young woman who has become orphaned and left with a younger sister in her care. When she moves in with her spinster aunt, Victoria is given one month to find a suitable husband if she is to see her sister Margaret again. She enlists the help of her good friend Lana in her quest for a husband, who introduces her to fancy balls and London society. It's there where she meets the mysterious and alluring Prince Vlakhos, a man she knows is nothing but trouble. Dorian is known as an aristocrat with a reputation of being a ladies' man. When he sees Victoria he is determined to have her in his bed but never dreamed she would also steal his heart, which could prove quite dangerous for the immortal prince.
Victoria is an unconventional heroine for her time. She is smart, opinionated and determined in a world where women are meant to look pretty and marry young. Victoria deals with a difficult situation and her character tugs at your heart string from the very beginning. She's a risk taker which I love, never played the damsel in distress and is willing to fight for what she believes in, including her man!
Dorian is ever the sexy and mysterious vampire. He's dark, brooding and full of charisma. We learn he's far from the rake everyone claims him to be, he's an ancient vampire king with a dark past and a kind heart. Dorian is the perfect gentleman but also has a wild side that makes him irresistible. Victoria awakens long lost desires in Dorian that allow him to open up about his well kept secret and past, something that comes as a surprise to him. It's refreshing to see the hero fall for the heroine first and having him express his feelings before she does is truly romantic!
This is above all a romance. Victoria and Dorian are a sexy couple who are brought together due to unique circumstances but their romance slowly develops and keeps you on the edge of your seat in anticipation. Their relationship is beyond steamy and I couldn't get enough of these two whenever they were left alone! The story has an original paranormal plot (I don't want to give it away!) and also introduces us to some appealing supporting characters that stand out throughout the story, my personal faves: Falcon and Sonya. I hope my suspicious are correct and that we'll get more of these two in the upcoming installments. Caressed by Moonlight is a spectacular historical romance with strong elements of paranormal and erotic romance that will captivate readers with its fluid writing style, action, sexual tension and romance. A great read you'll want to sink your teeth into!

Not really a fan of historical books, i went into reading Caressed by Moonlight with some trepidation. The fact that its hero was vampire swayed me. And am i glad it did sway me, because the debut novel from Amanda J Greene is a wonderful piece of work. Caressed by Moonlight, the first book in the Rulers of Darkness series centres around Victoria, who having lost both parents, penniless and with a young sister to care for is told by a crabby old aunt that if she wishes to continue being in her younger sisters life she must marry within the month.
And so Victoria's search among the local gentleman begins. Enter Vampire Dorian stage left. He wants her right from the moment of seeing her, he's not without problems of his own, from witches and hunters trying to destroy his clan, making him travel to London to deter the hunters and there he meets the lovely and pure Victoria. She's put off from considering him as a husband contender hearing of his reputation as a ladies man but drawn to him, even she can't resist for long before she's smooching him in the library (scandalous!)
I liked these characters, not your average paranormal tale, i thought for the time period they worked well together, the chemistry and sexual tension was palpable and fraught with tension at times that kept me reading page after page.
I know what i like in a vampire, i want him to have an air of menace about him, to be mysterious and about as sexy as sexy gets, and when he goes fanged i want it to be described in a way that makes me want to <cue the "Wanna do bad things with you" song> and i have to say, Dorian Vlakhos has all that and more. OhmyGawd, i really really liked him!
With this debut novel, the author ticks all the right boxes, So much so i look forward to the next book.
Favourite Quotes: "Dorian panted, dropping his head to her shoulder, he whispered, his voice gruff, “Will you be mine for all eternity?"
"He could not remember the last time he had wanted anything so badly. It was the hardest thing he had ever done, chaining his passion, when his body demanded that he take her. The beast within him roared for her"
Orphaned and left penniless after she ends up having to sell everything she owns to cover her father’s debts, Victoria Kingston finds herself traveling to London with her little sister in tow. She ends up on her aunt’s doorstep, detested by the very woman because of the fact that she resembles the woman whom, by her standards, bewitched her brother and caused him to leave everything he’d ever known behind.
Her aunt makes it clear that she’s not welcome, but she’s more than willing to take her sister off of her hands. She gives the girl an ultimatum, citing that she’ll need to marry in order to see her sibling. She further rubs this fact in by telling Victoria that she must get this done by the end of the month or she will forfeit her right to be her sister’s guardian.
With no other course of action, she confides in her best friend and together they concoct a plan that might offer Victoria the success she needs to gain an end to her own means. Yet there’s one thing she hadn’t counted upon, Prince Dorian Vlahkos. Dark, tall, and handsome, he stirs her blood in ways that no one else ever has. Her attraction grows by the day, yet she does her best to resist his charms.
Thrown into the streets because of a stolen kiss with the man himself, she’s catapulted into a world she’s never really known. Dorian can’t deny that he cares for the lovely minx, although he doesn’t quite understand why. Refusing to leave her on the streets, he agrees to marry her, allowing her to retain her sister’s guardianship; something that she’s truly grateful for.
Although, she doesn’t exactly know what he is, at first, she soon comes to accept him as he is. Her heart refuses to believe that he’s anything but a good man, even if he is a vampire. Bound by love, they strive to make the best of the cards that life has dealt them while trying to protect those they love.
I enjoyed every moment of this story. The heat and the love that played out between both characters were truly endearing. Amanda painted such a vivid picture of their world that it wasn’t hard to get so engrossed and attached to it and the characters within it. I’m truly looking forward to more of Amanda’s work.
As a fan of both Paranormal Romance and Historical Romance, it is always a delight to find the two genres melded into one story. I enjoyed the author's other series, but Caressed by Moonlight is something special. It's a captivating and sensual tale of a vampire king and a young woman he didn't know he needed.
I was a fan of this story from the very beginning. The plot is very intriguing and I loved watching how it played out. Who knew a quick marriage to a dark and handsome stranger (with fangs!) would work out so well for the main female character, Victoria. The character development and relationships between the characters were two of my favorite parts of the story besides the plot. I enjoyed the interaction between Victoria and her little sister. There were several scenes involving the two that tugged at my heartstrings. Dorian and Victoria's relationship was enjoyable for an entirely different reason. The two had a wonderfully combustible chemistry, which made for some spicy scenes (18+).
The historical aspects of this book were well done. It felt similar to a lot of my favorite historical romance novels and that is saying something because I think it is difficult to write a good historical novel. I love all the balls, reputations and scandals (Oh my!). Then there are the paranormal aspects, which are also done well. I have never been a huge fan of vampires, but this author has converted me. When done well they are dark, sexy and very addicting. That is the case with Dorian, a vampire king.
I am very much looking forward to reading the rest of this series and falling in love with the rest of the author's vampires. I recommend this series to any paranormal romance fan looking for something different.
Every now and then you come across a book that is the first in the series and it’s so good you want to kick yourself for reading it. Not because it wasn’t good, because you think to yourself well damn now I have to wait a whole year to read about these characters again. Caressed by Moonlight is one of those books for me.
Amanda J. Greene has created a world in Caressed by Moonlight that you can really sink your teeth into. Set in 1814 England for most of the book, I honestly could envision all of the book. And I don’t generally care for historical romance, but Caressed by Moonlight was just so well done to me. She has also created characters that you want to continue reading about after the last page has been turned.
Speaking of characters I loved Victoria. Victoria has had every obstacle imaginable thrown her way, and every time she picks herself up and continues on. She was not some simple, wimpy girl. Victoria was strong, smart, and tenacious. Then Dorian comes into her life. Oh and talk about a hot vampire, not that she knows what he is at first. The chemistry between these two packed enough power to charge my eReader for eternity.
Caressed by Moonlight has everything! There is action, suspense, lots of sexual tension, family drama, and love. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this read.
I want the next one in this series, which will be out no later February 2012, and will be titled Caressed by Night. So, be on the lookout for that.
Amanda J. Greene has written a book that took my breath away. I loved this book so much and could not put it down. The characters are well written and pull you into their world. This is my first historical romance (set in 1814 England) it has paranormal in it and Amanda makes the vampires her own with a great twist.
Victoria is left orphaned and penniless with her little sister. They have to go to England to live with their aunt who detests Victoria and gives her an ultimatum to wed in 30 days or she can never see her little sister again. Where most women would give up Victoria enlists her friend Lana to help her find a husband. The two go to fancy balls and deal with London’s high society. Where she meets Dorian Vlakhos who is a Lord and rumored to be a ladies man. Victoria tries to stay away from him but finds it very hard.
Dorian is your sexy, brooding, temperamental vampire with his own secrets and reasons for being in London’s society. When he sets his eyes on Victoria he has to have her in his bed but what he doesn’t expect is for her to take his heart. He shocks himself with how fast he falls in love with her and how easy it is for him to open up about his past and his secrets.
Dorian and Victoria each have their own reasons for coming together. But when they do they will fight everyone including each other to prove they are meant to be.

This one was fun. You get to mingle the intricacies of a historical romance (those poor girls back then had a lot of rules to follow, you know) with the fun, sometimes brutal, nearly always sexy paranormal romance genre. Vampires in high society! I love it.
I really liked how single minded Victoria was. She knew what she had to do to keep her sister safe and she set out to do it. Yes, it was distasteful to her to be so mercenary but she couldn't walk away and leave her sister in her Aunt's grasp. Dorian was absolutely not the type of gentleman Victoria needed. He doesn't much care what society thinks of him (and why should he, being a vampire and all?) and his reputation isn't all that savory. Despite all the reasons they shouldn't fall for one another, from the moment they met they both battled a pretty fiery attraction.
Amanda Greene has created a lovely, dark, elegant world populated with strong supernatural creatures and one very determined young lady. The secondary characters were just as riveting as the main characters and the ending came with a nicely unforeseen jolt. I'm curious to see where this series goes next.
Victoria has nothing left in this world but her little sister Margaret. Unfortunately, their guardian, Aunt Nelly, is threatening to take even that away from her. Aunt Nelly despises Victoria and tells her that unless she is able to find and marry a rich man by the end of the month, Margaret will be taken from her. So Victoria begins her search, only to find that she is frustrated. She meets Prince Dorian who seems to want her, but she wants nothing to do with him. One night Aunt Nelly sees the two outside and banishes Victoria from the home and her sister. With no where else to go Victoria goes to Dorian and he says that he will marry her. Both enter the relationship for the wrong reasons, but can they find love? When Dorian's clan is in danger and Victoria finds out what he really is can she accept him and can they save his people and themselves?
This was a story of how even when you think you are doing something for one reason, you sometimes find that exactly what you are looking for is right in front of your face. This story is of loving someone even if you didn’t want to in the beginning. It was a quick read that actually had some great drama in it. It also has some steamy love scenes for anyone that enjoys that.
This was all sorts of awesomeness! I'm working on a review...
And here it is...
I had originally read an excerpt from Caressed By Moonlight (see below for the excerpt) and just based on that I knew I wanted to read this book. I hadn't previously read any historical romance books, but I knew I would like it.
Well it turns out I didn't like it.....I loved it!! I was completely engrossed in the story and read it in a day! This book is historical paranormal romance but there's also some edge of your seat action. I will give a little warning that there are some spicy sex scenes so if you're not into that then you may not want to read this...which will be a shame since it's a great book!
Victoria and Dorian cross paths at a ball. Was it happenstance or was it fate? They both have their own agendas and Victoria's does not include Dorian. Will some twist of fate bring them together? I'm surely not spilling the beans so you will have to read this awesome book to find out ;). I will say that I really connected to the characters and especially towards the end I know my forehead was creased with concentration. I'm really surprised my husband didn't notice!
Caressed by Moonlight mixes Historical Romance and Paranormal Romance and does it well.
It has all the charms of a good Regency Romance and all the excitement of a Paranormal Romance. The courtship that is usually the main part of a Regency Romance is sped up a bit to give room to the paranormal action storyline, but this is certainly not a bad thing as both the romance and the action are fun to read and they blend well together.
The world building is done really well without intruding on the story too much and the writing is decent (there are some minor editing oversights, but not so much as to annoy).
The romance is intense and the characters are well worked out: Victoria is someone you feel for and who you want to see happy while Dorian is so intriguing that I fell in love with him from the start.
I do hope there will be many more books in this series, because reading this one made me hungry for more.
2.5 story quite good world building quite good The reason why I have marked this book down is because Caressed by Moonlight is the worst example of poor editing and proofreading that I have ever seen—every single page is riddled with typos and grammatical errors. In some instances, it is so bad that it is unclear what the author is trying to say. If she paid to have this book professionally edited, she really needs to be asking for her money back. Alternatively, I suggest that she pay someone else to clean this edition up, as a priority because it reflects poorly on her as a result. I am sorry to sound so scathing, but this is completely unnecessary and shows a lack of attention to detail from all parties. As readers, we cannot allow such a poor standard become the norm. I found this book from Book Bubs, which means that the author could receive plenty of new readers, and this may prevent others from reading the rest of, what could be, potentially quite a good saga.
