Sean Peters Hi,

Let me start this new topic with my favourites, present series that I enjoy.

Person Of Interest, Hawaii-Five-O, Arrow, Nikita, Chicago Fire, The Americans, The Blacklist, Ray Donovan, Rookie Blue, and still Criminal Minds, although not as good as it used to be.

Old favourites, The X Files, Lost, Flash Forward and the best ever series 24 !

regards

Sean

Irene Old series, best ever, The West Wing.

message 3: by Sean (new)

Sean Peters Hi

One series I have not seen at all.

regards

Sean

message 4: by Irene (new)

Irene Once you start you will wonder why you didn't watch it sooner!

message 5: by Michael (new)

Michael My favorite series are: the original Nikita with Peta Wilson; The Black List; Person of Interest.
But the one I enjoy the most, no matter how many times PBS replays it is Ballykissangle, about an Irish village and its assorted charaters. I even make a sort of pilgrimage to Avoca Ireland to see where the series was filmed.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I would say Nikita, Person of Interest, The BlackList, NCIS LA, The Americas and Lillyhammer.
I have Roku so I'm able to watch Hulu on TV. They have three high octane action thrillers. Iris, which is in a new season. Athena: Goddess of War. And A Man called God. Lots of martial arts scenes and gunplay.

message 7: by Sean (new)

Sean Peters Hi

Recently have watched the action packed action/thriller series Strike Back, another favourite to add to the collection.

Sean

Been watching that through Netflix. Great series. I watch Homeland as well.

I recorded the first episode of Intelligence. Planning to watch it this weekend. Looks like a really good show.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Didn't know that Killer Women was on ABC last night. Have to watch it on InDemand over the weekend.

Sean Peters Hi

yes as a movie and series fan, I do try to keep up with new series on the IMDB website, and highly regarded are the new series Intelligence and Killer Woman.

At present just watching the last 6 ever episodes of Nikita, a great action packed and fast paced series.

Coming to a great conclusion, watched three, three to go.

Looking forward to the new series of The Following, and watching the new series of Criminal Minds.

Waiting for the 3rd series of Arrow, and the 3rd series of Person Of Interest. And hopefully the second series of The Americans. Also waiting for 4th series of Hawaii-Five.0

regards

Sean

Nikita as always is a great show and I would rate it the best of the shows mentioned above with The Americans a close second followed by Person of Interest and Hawaii-Five O.
Caught the first episode of Killer Woman. Not that good. Plot was weak. Nothing new here when you always bring in a drug cartel. Seems that Hollywood always has to use the same plot lines that get too tiring to watch after a while.
Haven't watched Arrow but will look into it. I passed on Criminal Minds and The Following.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

If you want to see a great psychological thriller with a plot line about a man who is told to kill someone or a loved one will die, which was the premise of the first episode of Killer Woman, then a great movie to see if you haven't seen it already would be Nick Of Time with Johnny Depp. That is a movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat with a plot line done right. It's available on Netflix instant if you have it.
And let's not forget Red Eye with Rachel McAdams.

message 14: by Mary (new)

Mary TV series-all time favorite 24. Loved Nikita (original was best), Criminal Minds, The Closer which has morphed into Major Crimes, Elementary, Revenge (cheesy, but I like) The Following was fun but I don't see how they can do a second season-the story seemed over. And Blue Bloods, And Jesse Stone series of movies with Tom Selleck. I never watched these kind of shows before I saw Touched by Evil so Robsen Green got me hooked, and they have all seemed rather tame since except 24. When I just looked back at my list, I have one more thing to say (well two)-I do other things besides TV and what is the show "The Americans"?

message 15: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 11, 2014 02:41PM) (new)

The Americans is a show on FX. It's about two Russian Spies coming into the US during the 1980's. They're known as anti-heroes since they seem like an ordinary family with two children and you may want to root for them so they won't get caught by the government. They also live next door to a CIA agent. The plot lines are good because they don't know who to trust at times. There are a lot of good characters as well. It's a good series to get into. I missed the last two episodes but it should be back towards the end of January. If you're on Time Warner, you should be able to catch on indemand when it comes back in February.

message 16: by Sean (new)

Sean Peters Hi Mary,

Thanks for your post and welcome.

Yes I also do watch Blue Bloods and Rookie Blue

Sean Peters Hi

Tried Graceland did not like it.

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? My favorite series right now are: Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, Criminal Minds.

message 19: by Irene (new)

Irene mine at the moment are Grey's, Blue Bloods, NCIS, Criminal Minds. We have a new series starting Mob City next week.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe it's me but I'm losing interest in NCIS with Ziva gone. I think the verdict is out on her replacement. Even before that, I started to like NCIS LA more than NCIS. The last two episodes were really good also before the break.

Lorrea(Threein3) wrote: "My favorite series right now are: Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, Criminal Minds."

I should start watching Scandal. It's on Netflix instant and I keep telling myself to watch it.

My husband and I watched Mob City. It's a short series. He enjoyed it more than I did.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I've been watching the first season of Lillyhammer on Netflix instant. It's a good show and the second season already started.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Here are some reviews of Killer Women. As expected, the reviews are not good.

message 25: by Sue (new)

Sue I enjoy watching Nikita, Person of Interest, The Mentalist and will definitely have to check out the new series Intelligence. Have to check when it is on. Bought my husband for Christmas all last season of Nikita, Person of Interest, and The Mentalist...he is not a reader, so I had to do something so I can read. Now if I could train the 2 Labs to entertain themselves, I might have total bliss.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Really enjoyed the first episode of Intelligence. That looks like a winner. The Mentalist has always been one of my favorite shows as well. My cat sleeps through everything.

message 27: by Sean (new)

Sean Peters Hi

Another series that has been recommended to me, and I have all five series to watch is Breaking Bad.

Not seen any yet, finished now, but won many awards this last year.

Also have Band Of Brothers to watch with Damian Lewis (from Homeland)in.

If I go back quite a few years ago !!

I have every episode on my computer of "The Invaders", a great series in it's day.

regards

Sean

message 28: by Irene (new)

Irene Band of Brothers was an excellent series.

message 29: by Donna (new)

Donna Cooper Hi, I'm a newbie to this group but has anyone else read Stuart Macbride? I'm currently reading the entire series and I'm hooked! Very gruesome in parts but fantastic plots and realistic characters mixed with very dark humour that breaks up the seriousness of murder and tragedy. I also love books by Karin Slaughter and Chris Carter. Happy new year everyone :)

message 30: by Donna (new)

Donna Cooper Oh and for tv it got to be x-files, blue bloods, sherlock, life on mars and ashes to ashes!

Donna wrote: "Oh and for tv it got to be x-files, blue bloods, sherlock, life on mars and ashes to ashes!"

I really liked the X-Files and Fringe.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

I finally finished the first season of IRIS which was 20 episodes. It's available on Hulu and Hulu Plus if you have a roku box like I do for my TV.
All in all, it was a great series and if you're looking for a series like 24, this would be a good one. Below is my review from my blog.

message 33: by LaDonna (new)

LaDonna My favorite tv series of all time is In Plain Sight about two US Marshalls with the WITSEC division. Great humor and tense storylines. Love Person of Interest, Blacklist, Rizzoli and Isles, King and Maxwell, Elementary, White Collar, Psych, Monk, Castle, Justified, The Americans. Watched the first episode of Killer Women tonight and enjoyed it. I saw someone mentioned not liking Graceland, and I agree. We eventually watched the whole first season, but don't think we will watch it again if it comes back for a second - something just didn't work for me. I know Breaking Bad has a huge number of fans, but I really didn't care for it. I lived in Albuquerque for a number of years, so the most appeal for me was seeing places I knew.

message 34: by Perri (new)

Perri Just finished watching West Wing on Netflix-terrific show! Was a huge X-Files fan and have Fringe in my queue. The Killing is excellent and also Top of the Lake. And The Wire. And Deadwood :)

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I really enjoyed Fringe. It's a great show.

message 36: by Sean (new)

Sean Peters Hi

Have recently been recommended a new series, maybe mini series called True Detective, only one episode so far, and has Matthew McConnaghy and Woody Harrelson.

regards

Sean

message 37: by Sean (new)

Sean Peters I wonder how many of you have seen some of my old favourites on British television.

Loved the old comedies, not sure if they have come to America.

Keeping Up Appearances
One Foot In The Grave
Sorry
Only Fools and Horses
Porridge
Allo Allo
Vicar Of Dibley

all great

Sean

Some thoughts on Killer Women being cancelled by ABC. I guess I'm taking shots at ABC since i went after them on Last Man Standing in the previous post. If you're bored and have nothing to do, feel free to read my thoughts.

I subscribe to Acorn TV but haven't seen these. Maybe they'll come on soon.

message 40: by Gabbiadini (new)

Gabbiadini The Danish version of the killing was great.
Just finished watching mob city on fox in the uk and really enjoyed that. Breaking bad was awesome as I'm sure you all know and Castle is a long time favourite of mine

message 41: by Sean (new)

Sean Peters Hi Mark

I have Breaking Bad to watch, everyone keeps tell me how good it is

message 42: by Gabbiadini (new)

Gabbiadini I was totally hooked after the opening couple of episodes, really stressful to sit through but fantastic acting and plot lines. I thought it totally lived up to the hype

message 43: by Feliks (last edited Feb 28, 2014 09:05AM) (new)

Feliks h'mmm...thriller-based tv series? Let's see..haven't got time to do a full listing but just a few off-the-top-of-my-head:

'The Fugitive' (David Jansen, all-time best tv show ever)
'Combat! (with Vic Morrow)
'The Rat Patrol' (great outdoor location shooting)
'Police Story' (Joseph Wambaugh, producer)
'Danger: UXB' (British series with Anthony Andrews)
'Mission Impossible' (original cast)
'It Takes a Thief' (Robert Wagner and Fred Astaire; often shot on-location in Europe)
'I Spy'
'Chase' (special unit of cops given helicopters and motorcycles to catch crooks)
'Hawaii 5-0' (no one's tougher than Jack Lord, no one)
'Wanted Dead or Alive' (McQueen)
'The Rifleman' (Chuck Connors)
'Gunsmoke' (James Arness)
'Sea Hunt' (Lloyd Bridges)
'Kung Fu' (David Carradine)
'The Rockford Files' (James Garner)
'The Persuaders' (Brit, Tony Curtis and Roger Moore)
'The Avengers' (Brit)
'The Prisoner' (Brit, Patrick McGoohan)

message 44: by Sean (new)

Sean Peters Sadly Feliks I am old enough to remember all those series.

Really liked Chuck Connors in Branded as well as Rifleman.

Sea Hunt, did not watch, The Prisoner was great, as was Mission Impossible, It Takes A Thief, The Rat Patrol, The Fugitive, Hawaii Five 0(but do like the new series), The Avengers (which was your favourite lady?).

I am sure we could mention more, well two more, The Invaders was one of my favourites, as was Lost in Space(favourites although not thrillers)

message 45: by Feliks (last edited Feb 28, 2014 10:18AM) (new)

Feliks There's no reason to be sad for having good taste.

p.s. I didn't see most of these as originals; I caught them in syndication (no cable tv where I grew up). Nevertheless, I would still have chosen them over the more modern fare being offered on prime-time channels. People talk about 'good acting'--are you kidding me? Who are you going to get better than James Garner or Vic Morrow? What possible pedigree do today's tv stars have to recommend them? Zilch. They learned how to 'act' by appearing on the Nickolodeon channel, wheeze.

message 46: by Arlene (last edited Feb 28, 2014 12:26PM) (new)

Arlene Hayes Recent favourite: Dexter. Current favourites: Chicago Fire, Call the Midwife. Past favourites: Star trek (original series with Cpt. Kirk et al), The Virginian, Dallas, London's Burning, Six Feet Under. When I was a child my favourite was The Monroes, does anyone remember that? I can still remember the cast, and I became a fan of Barbara Hershey. They're not all thrillers exactly, but they were for me!

message 47: by Sean (new)

Sean Peters Arlene

my wife and I watch Chicago Fire (did not like the UK Smoke -rubbish), remember The Virginian, also enjoyed Gunsmoke and The High Chaparral, not so keen on space programmes like Star Trek, hate Dr Who !

message 48: by Perri (new)

Perri Sean can you get Firefly? It's like a western in space and very well done.

Arlene, I loved Dexter. Will miss it.

message 50: by Sean (new)

Sean Peters No have not seen Firefly, or seen in advertised, although so many stations on Sky television, I am not sure.

Has anyone watched the first episode of True Detective ?

I thought it was awful, slow, talky to many flashbacks !
