Gertie How you doing? What have you been up to this week? Plans for the weekend?

Just a general check-in with our AW friends new and old.

message 2: by Chip (new)

Chip It should be a fun evening here - I'm going to a county soil and water training program where I'll be trained on how to measure the health of the creek in my backyard using chemical, biological, and observational tests. I'm also hoping they'll have some advice on resources to stabilize the bank on the far side of the creek that I don't own where the farmer dumped things for decades so there is a lot of garbage.

message 3: by Fishface (new)

Fishface It's not Good Friday, but it's a REALLY good Friday when the family I really didn't want to meet with cancelled on me.

message 4: by Charlton (new)

Charlton This weekend is the MS 150 bicycle ride from Houston to Austin.
My brother-in-law rides I cheer his team on. His wife, my sister-in-law has MS and the team is the Flying Hawaiians.

Jennifer My weekend has been good. I hung out with my son, things are improving there. The snow is about melted in the yard and the cat has been exploring (on his harness of course)

message 6: by Lupe (new)

Lupe Dominguez I’m so glad things are improving, Jennifer! I went to a baseball game yesterday for a friend’s 40th. It was a surprise and he loved it. And the Tigers won so it was all worth it lol.

Glad to hear things are going well.

Gertie Jennifer had a good week. :-)

We have been renovating my basement, and my main floor bathroom. Yesterday we finally reached a stopping point where I can start cleaning and decorating/putting stuff back together. It's a relief and pretty exciting.

message 9: by Farmer (new)

Farmer Lynn It looks like this thread needs a little bump, so I'll share something interesting I learned about myself. In the last year, I'd devolved into showering every other day and just wearing comfy oversized shirts with leggings all the time with my hair in frizzy pony tails (my hairs untamable when it's not freshly washed). Recently, I found a new hairdresser and got my hair permed. It's bouncy and beautiful again and ever since I've started showering every morning because it lets me scrunch my hair up pretty and I'm wearing my nice work blouses again. My last perm had been poorly done and came out flat on the bottom and barely a wave on top and not liking how it looked...and therefore how I looked completely changed my whole view of myself...and in return changed how I presented myself.

Anne (w/ an E) I am now a member of the Century Club because I have donated blood 100 times. There was another lady becoming a member at the same time as me and they wanted to take a picture of us to post on Facebook, but they were ready for me to donate then and I wasn't really into that, anyway.

message 11: by Gertie (new)

Gertie That's amazing!

message 12: by Farmer (new)

Farmer Lynn That's very cool Anne! I used to donate when I could, but can't anymore with all the meds I'm on.

Have you tried lately, Farmer? The rules have changed quite a bit. It seems like almost anyone is allowed to donate, now. Unless you have AIDS, HIV or Hep C, they want your blood. They're getting desperate.

message 15: by Ariel (new)

Ariel Palenik(TheDayDreamingWriter) Well, I am planning on starting to work on my second novel... Its name is going to be "Dances With The Black Widow."
Which is going to serve as a partial prequel to my first novel "What's Wrong With 1961."

I also want to work on some short stories as well. Some of which I want to submit to some magazines, but i'm not sure if I am going to make it to those...

We'll see... But yeah, a lot of creative juices flowing...

Fishface Getting Zoom trained today in a new behavior rating system that is transparently based on the one we have been using all these years. Except where the old system took 10 minutes to complete a rating on a client, it is going to take NINETY MINUTES to complete using the new system. It's already screwing with my head that we are supposed to rate client needs on a 0-3 scale, with 3 being the worst, and client strengths are to be rated on a 0-3 scale with 0 being the best. Whose bright idea was that?

message 17: by Lupe (new)

Lupe Dominguez It's Friday and the long weekend here! Can't wait to get some reading in and soak in some sun!

message 18: by Gertie (new)

Gertie We are going to get one nice day and grey and rain the other two but I am also excited for a long weekend!

This weekend I am probably going to paint my "solar room" then I am going to a friend's house to dismember dolls. She uses them for art projects... believe it or not, it's not for creepy projects but cute ones. :-P

Fishface This week proved again that the full Moon is a real factor in human behavior. On Thursday we had one, and out of our half-staffed program with not that many active clients, we had in ONE day, a kid who stole a gun and a car and is now a fugitive from justice; a kid punching herself in the head until her eyes are black; a kid removed from home for her safety; on and on and on. All in one day.

message 25: by Anne (w/ an E) (new)

Anne (w/ an E) I did some more donating today. Not blood this time, but hair. Really.
I had 10 inches of my hair cut off and I am sending it to Locks of Love so they can make wigs for kids who are losing their hair due to illness. I have done this before and maybe I 'll be able to do it again. [They sell the hair they can't make wigs from, like GREY hair!]

Farmer Lynn Just got back from my big bucket list trip to London Paris and Rome and it was way more than I'd ever expected. And you know I spent my downtime reading! Here's on the plane and Eurostar. :D

message 27: by Gertie (new)

Gertie I bet that's the trip of a lifetime, at least it would be for some of us! How is Cytonic?

My big excitement yesterday was going to IKEA. :-P

It's good...another enjoyable series. Mr. Sanderson can do no writing wrongs in my eyes though

Lupe Dominguez All...I'm so sad. I was trying to update my books read for the year and I kept having one on there twice, and while I was trying to fix it...I accidently deleted my review and everything else (notes, highlights, dates read, etc.). I'm so mad and there is no way to get it all back!

message 43: by Gertie (new)

Gertie Oh heck Lupe!

Did you already check ? Maybe you can reimport them or something. That stinks to put time into it to lose the work.

message 44: by Fishface (last edited Jun 27, 2024 11:52AM) (new)

Fishface OK, for the second time in the same week, I was driving north today on the road that leads to the office and thought, "I'm going to head over to Wash World first." Both times, the "low tire pressure" alert immediately popped up on my dashboard. Both times, the tires were fine.

This is starting to get weird.

message 45: by Gertie (new)

Gertie Okay... if it happens a third time...

message 46: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Whats up wit Wash World and why does the universe want you to avoid it ?

message 47: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer We have some wildfires around, so the smoke has been really bad the past week, The hospital opened up some respite rooms for people. We have the windows closed and the house is a sauna. But if we open the windows it will become a smoky sauna.... I am thinking about going to get one of the portable AC room things that you put water in or something.
