After maybe 100 pages in, I thought that Hillbilly Elegy would be a great read-along to this book. They are quite different, but approach some similar topics (family, connection to the land, etc.) from entirely different backgrounds, which I found elucidating.
I agree, Alison: her writing is poetic. I expected a very different book from the one I read. I also could not put it down.
