Yousef The idea is that only one silo is supposed to make it out in the end. The most suitable silo is decided automatically by the servers and they're also "made" more suitable by rigging the lottery i.e. deciding who gets to have kids. These rankings change constantly over the centuries but 49/50 silos are just backups in the end.

Ending spoilers: Yes all humans are dead, but outside of the area that the silos are in, nature thrives. The "winning" silo was supposed to use a digger hidden in a wall to dig outside this area to a bunker with a bunch of seeds and supplies etc. and restart humanity.

Of course that isn't what ends up happening though as the plans of the people behind this in Silo 1 are foiled. :)
