A Gay Christmas Romance

One hard-nosed military police officer.

One overly enthusiastic elf.

One poorly timed snowstorm.

Is it a recipe for disaster? Or a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for holiday romance?

Teddy MacNally loves Christmas and everything that goes along with it. When he plays an elf for his charity’s events, he never expects to be paired with a Scrooge masquerading as Santa Claus. His new make the holiday-hating soldier believe he was born to say ho-ho-ho.

Sergeant Major Nicholas Nowicki doesn’t do Santa, but he’s army to his blood. When his CO asks an unusual favor, Nick of course obliges. The elf to his Kris Kringle? Tempting. Too tempting—Nick’s only in town for another month, and Teddy’s too young, too cheerful and too nice for a one-night stand.

The slow, sexy make-out sessions while Teddy and Nick are alone and snowbound, though, feel like anything but a quick hookup. As a stress-free holiday fling turns into Christmas all year round, Teddy can’t imagine his life without Nick. And Nick’s days on the base may be coming to a close, but he doesn’t plan on leaving anything, or anyone, behind.

REREAD DECEMBER 2020

My original rating stands. This is such a sexy, heartfelt story. I love Nick and Teddy to pieces!

I rarely reread books, but this story is so worth it. It remains one of my favorite holiday romances of all time.

All the joy. All the love. And some naughty elf antics too.

~4.5~

I never thought I'd read a holiday story in August, but I can't resist Annabeth Albert, even when it's 104° F outside.

And this story is all kinds of warm and cozy, featuring a grumpy Santa who saves the day, a bossy elf with a heart of gold (and a few naughty tricks up his sleeve), family who means well, snow storms that leave you stranded, giving trees and garlands, sex in a recliner (and many other places!), and a truly heartwarming HEA.

I fell in love with Nick and Teddy. They were polar opposites, born almost twenty years apart, and yet fit together like lock and key.

Nick, having dedicated his life to the military, isn't thrilled about a forced early retirement. Nick is stoic and responsible. He's a big guy, a military cop, and doesn't make rash decisions. And he can't stay. He'd only disappoint Teddy in the long run.

Teddy is vibrant, funny, and kind. He runs a resource center for those who need a helping hand, and he needs a Santa STAT. Teddy doesn't take many risks, but he know a good thing when he sees it, and Nick is the best present of all.

Nick is reluctant, but his heart grows two sizes with Teddy at his side.

Who knew getting lost in a blizzard could be so much fun?

This is a happy story, with some mild angst, but mostly JOY and cheer.

I'm rereading come November. Hot chocolate and love never go out of style.

I'm not even remotely ashamed that I've read a Christmas book in the midst of the hottest summer we've had in the UK in,like forever....

What do you get if you take one, reluctant grumpy Santa....who's just a bit hot,by the way,

And,

One bossy, organized Elf with a delicious Twink vibe going on......who's just as hot...

Explosive chemistry,

Just a feel good Christmas setting,

Highly likeable supporting characters.....yes,I adored Teddy's family...

You know when you read something and it just kind of wraps you up and makes you feel happy ?

This is that book.

Loved it!

4.5 cute Christmas stars

description

This book was love at first chapter.

We have a broody, grumpy Santa Sergeant Major Nicholas - Saint Nick and a cute Elf with a heart of gold named Teddy who is all about positive vibes.

description

Mix these two polar opposites, Grumpy Santa and bubbly Elf together and we get one big explosive Christmas romance.

description

Like Teddy, i love Christmas and this book provided the right recipe for a feel good holiday book.

Teddy loves Christmas and is tasked to play an Elf in one of his charity events. He is paired with the Grumpy Santa nicknamed Saint Nick, and Teddy makes it his mission to help grumpy Santa love the holiday too. I enjoyed the wooing part, from the get go, these two had some major chemistry going on. I loved how Teddy slowly broke down Nick's not so permanent walls.

The romance was so well done. The slow-burn , the build up and everything in between was so romantic.

The kisses! damn the Kisses! oh my i loved them, these two had some hot panty melting makeout sessions and the sex was hot too and well balanced throughout the story.

Teddy's family provided a solid supporting characters, loved them all and also Nick's sister and her family were a nice addition to the story.

Overall it was a sweet Christmas read and i really loved it.

Highly Recommended when you are in the mood for a feel good holiday story.

I’m the kind of person who can read holiday stories all year round. 😁 That being said, I haven’t had such good luck with holiday novels for a couple years already but now, my spirit of Christmas past curse has been certainly lifted! 😉 What a gloriously feel-good and cozy holiday book this is! 😱 I absolutely loved it! 😍 I was worried about the connection between two MCs being too insta or not emotional enough but I couldn’t have been more wrong! Ok! And onto reviewing! 😌

Twenty-something Teddy is a Mineral Spirits born and the director of the local charity foundation. Teddy has always been a homey and giving person so being able to stay close with his family and working as the charity director has been a perfect blessing for him. Except .. one thing has been missing from his life, love. 😞 Since this is a very small town and he’s a busy person, he really doesn’t have that many chances to date around. So when he met the grumpy and sexy AF Sergeant Major Nick who volunteered to pose as Santa for his charity’s photo shoot, he decided to go for it and ask the guy out. Except, Nick is leaving in a month.

Sergeant Major Nowicki aka Nick is a 46 years old single guy who’s been serving for his country for nearly 30 years. And after almost of 3 decades of service, Nick’s time in the army has come to an end. When the army didn’t accept his re-enlisting, Nick has decided to retire in Florida where he’ll partner up with one of his fellow veterans in the tourist boating business. And he has never in a million years thought that he’d end up helping as the Santa for the local charity foundation where his last post as an army cop is. And what is up with that overly cheery and enthusiastic elf who’s also the director of the local charity. 😂 If only the little elf isn’t so annoyingly happy, Nick finds that he’s rather cute. 😉

Both men know that it’s a bad idea to start something when there’s a deadline over their heads. Teddy’s Mineral Spirits all and all and Nick already has plans for his retirement and that’s definitely not in the north country. Both men lied themselves it’s only a fling, both thought they could say goodbye after a month of fun. 😭 But neither of them thought they would madly, irrevocably and scorchingly fall in love in just one month. ❤️ Now it’s time for both of them to men up and chase after the best thing that happened to both of them.

OMG! Did I love it!!! The feel, the romance, the emotions, the UST, and the angst, that bittersweet and heart-aching angst, I freaking loved it. 😍 I love that despite them hooking up first and falling into a relationship later, the book didn’t feel rushed at all. 👍 It’s a slow-burn, feel-good, a comfort read book. I also love that both of them are flawed characters. Teddy has his shortcomings to overcome and so is Nick, especially about getting over his past relationship. The UST between these two men were sizzling and the smut burnt even brighter! 🔥 It really was so hot! 🔥 Though no surprise since size and age difference is one of my favorite kinks! 😁 And I loved how this book tugged my heart so smoothly and achingly from time to time! I cried a few times! 😭 Ah .. that bittersweet angst finally ending up with an epic HEA is the best kind of comfort book. 👏 There was snow, there was romance, holiday spirit and family, acceptance and forgiveness, and most important of all, finding love and taking up opportunities. What’s not to like? 😉 surely did a stellar job with this one! 👏 I can’t recommend this book more. 😌

5 kiss me tender and bruise my lips Stars

Another spectacular Christmas adventure by Annabeth Albert!

Oh how I love those brooding older hunks who think that happiness and love isn't for them.

Sergeant Major Nick Nowicki is in trouble. At 46 he's an old timer in the service, shortly before his retirement, so he can hardly say no when his commander asks him to step in as Santa Claus in a Christmas pageant in the commander's small town home of Mineral Springs.

Bulging muscles almost ripping his red santa suit, he meets pageant organizer Teddy MacNally, a 20something year old guy with a bright personality who is also gay.

And yes, as Christmas romance tradition requires it, a snowstorm does happen and forces Nick to spend the night at Teddy's place.

Nick doesn't intend to make any connections in that small town, but lonely Teddy manages to convince him that since they're both gay and both stranded together for the night, they might as well hook up.

Which isn't the most romantic notion, but Nick is just a man and Teddy is a hot young thing, so he figures a night of fun can't do much harm.

One night turns into two turns into a friendship that both guys want to preserve until Nick's time runs out and he enters retirement by going south to Florida.

Gosh, I could have kicked Nick so many times. His plan of retiring south was so weird when he had all he ever wanted right in front of him.

Teddy desperately wanted him to see a future in Mineral Springs.

But I totally admire the fact that both guys questioned their life plans in the end. No one can force something on a partner and unless there is compromise, even the biggest romances cannot find mutual ground.

And please let me mention the sex. I seriously needed a fire extinguisher next to my kindle reading this. So incredibly beautiful and heartfelt. And hot :-)

This is definitely a favorite that will stay with me for a long time.

5 stars!!

I'm basically obsessed with , so it is killing me to say anything negative about . I mean, Annabeth Albert and a Christmas story?! That pretty much sounds like nirvana.

But... it wasn't, at least for me.

I liked the book, don't get me wrong, but my review will mainly focus on the things that didn't work for me because those are the details that stick in my mind.

The two MCs didn't seem all that into each other, to be honest. I liked the small-town vibe and I enjoyed each MC individually, but that intense chemistry just wasn't there for me. I feel like Teddy just wore Nick down over time, not that Nick had to be with him.

The story was just... fine... just fine. It wasn't great, it was nice, but, ultimately, I found it a bit boring and lacking some chemistry. More than anything, I wanted to like it, and I did, but I know Annabeth Albert can do even better.

3.5 Santa & Elf Stars

I think I’m in the minority here! Not that I think it was bad (because it wasn’t) but something was missing here! For a sweet story, I couldn’t feel their passion, their feelings for each other, their emotions and I felt a bit detached! I didn’t like Nick, yeah he was a grumpy Santa (that I liked) but not the way he thought and for the reasons he rejected Teddy! Actually, I couldn't understand them. But instead, I adored Teddy for his insistence and pushing Nick and for going after what he wanted. Told in dual POV, 1st person. It’s a standalone novel, almost angst free with an age gap (18 years) and a good read for the holidays. Even though it didn’t live up to my expectations, still it was good (not great) and hope you enjoy it!

It's almost midnight and here I sit with red-rimmed eyes and sinuses clogged, yet with a huge smile on my face... Annabeth Albert is one of my favorite authors and with this holiday book she more than delivered. She truly produced an incredibly fun and emotional Christmas-themed piece of perfection. I absolutely adored the dynamic between Teddy and Nick... even if Nick didn't think so they complemented each other perfectly, each bringing to the relationship what the other needed. I also loved Teddy's big family and the small town he had grown up in. In addition to the scorching love scenes this book left me feeling all warm and snuggly inside!

Re-read December 2020

Overall I liked this, but I still had a really hard time liking Nick.

----------------------------------------------

3.5 stars

46 year old Sergeant Major Nick Nowicki has been asked to play Santa in the little town of Mineral Spirits this year by his commanding officer. Her husband always plays Santa, but can’t do it this year because of health problems.

Nick is not happy he is now stuck in a Santa suit that’s too small, in a little town where it seems to be always snowing. And all the people in it just seem so darn nice. But it’s for charity, so he sets off to find the director of the charity event.

When Nick meets the 28 year old director, Teddy, he isn’t sure he can do this. Teddy is just way too happy to be playing an elf. Nick just wants this all over with.

But after spending the day together, Nick has to admit that Teddy isn’t so bad. Of course he is way too young for Nick, but he is kind of cute.

When Nick leaves at the end of the day, he crashes his car and ends up in a ditch in the middle of a snowstorm. Lucky for him, Teddy drives by and takes him to his place, which is just around the corner.

Teddy is quite happy the big grumpy Sergeant Major is spending the night. At first Nick doesn’t seem to want to start anything with Teddy, but somehow they end up in bed together anyway.

Nick tried to turn Teddy down since he has nothing to offer the younger man. Especially because he is retiring from the army and moving to the beach to start a business with an old army buddy in a month.

But in that month the two can’t seem to stay away from each other, and it’s not long before both are feeling way too much for just a ‘fling’….

Nick was a bit hard to like at first, but I loved how Teddy made him open up more, made him happier, softer, gentler.

Teddy was just adorable and I loved how kind and gentle he was. I also really loved his big family and how everyone basically lived in each other’s pocket in the tiny town.

This was a nice Christmas story.

4 Stars!

This was an enjoyable Christmas romance story.

I liked both characters. They had really great chemistry and some really steamy scenes.

The problem is that although both men have great chemistry and they seem to be falling hard for each other they are both set in their ways and neither refuse to budge on. Teddy is comfortable in his life. He loves his job, his town, and his family who all live in that town. The only thing that is missing is someone to spend his life with. He thinks he finds that in his disgruntled Santa Nick.
Nick has been alone the majority of his life. He's had a very long military career which is about to come to an end with retirement. He has plans in place. He's heading to Florida to go into a tourist boating business with a buddy of his from the military. Not even the strong feelings he's become to have for Teddy will keep him from leaving. The goodbye is bittersweet. But in the end the heart wants what it wants and chances are taken and love conquers.

It was a definitely one of the better holiday books I have read. It had just enough angst for my taste.

Happy Holidays dolls! xx

Annabeth Albert + a Military MC + a festive setting = complete win!

I knew going into this one that I would - more likely than not - end up loving it as it had all the hallmarks of the great formula which has worked so well in Annabeth's Out of Uniform series (and if you've not read that yet, get on it! /series/1912...

This is magic, a lonely Sergeant Major being pushed into retirement after 28 years service, a younger man who lives in the town he grew up in, surrounded by his extended family and a support network but never taking risks.

They meet when Nick is cajoled by his Commanding Officer into taking over the role of Santa that her husband usually plays when he's invalided out following a heart attack. Nick is not a jolly Santa at all, he's a serious character whose really only ever known the Army life.

While there is tragedy in his past, it's not dwelled upon, it's something he's pushed deep inside and so Teddy's open and expressive way of life and the closeness he has with his own family, even though they too have had a similar painful experience, is something he's not sure how to deal with.

I loved watching Teddy slowly break down all Nick's walls, not even deliberately, he just is Teddy and Nick slowly realises there might be an alternative to living the remainder of his days alone in a Florida setting he's only heading for because he promised an old Army buddy he'd invest in his tour business.

Teddy's not all fluff though, he knows he's got his own issues and the safety and security of his small hometown where he knows everyone is just one of the things which holds him back. Nick opens up a future he hadn't thought was possible.

I love me a good Christmas/festive romance and I love me a good military romance, especially with an age gap and complete opposites attract, and Annabeth delivers on all three. Put this one at the top of your reading list, it'll make a lovely present!

I said I wouldn't read a Christmas story before December or at least late November. Obviously I didn't stick to that decision because it's October and I can't resist an Annabeth Albert book that promises "opposites attract" and "age gap". And trust me, the story delivered.

Νick must be the grumpiest (and most reluctant) Santa there is. After serving the army for almost 30 years, he's pushed into retirement. He's uptight and set in his ways. He has no roots and after the army is done with him he won't belong anywhere. And he's so very lonely. Until he meets Teddy, the cute (and hot) elf he has to work for at the resource center.

Teddy is Nick's polar opposite. He's sweet, outgoing and upbeat. He is deeply connected to the small town he grew up in. Always surrounded by family and friends, Teddy has no plans to ever leave. This (and Nick's unwillingness to let go) is the main conflict of the story. Nick's time is up and after his retirement he plans on living town for good.

But for all their differences Teddy and Nick share some things too. They both understand loss and grief, just choose to deal with it in a different way. They will both find themselves at crossroads when "lets have fun for the holidays" turns to "I fell for you and can't leave".

Recommended for a low-angst, super hot, sweet Christmas story.

2's = it was ok.

I seriously think I read a different book than my friends did.

I am a firm believer Christmas should not start until after Thanksgiving, unless you are a craft store of course. But these days it seems it now starts before Halloween. There are even two local radio stations playing nothing but Christmas music here already.

But this year, I won’t lie; I am swept up in it. I can’t wait to decorate, make lists and just be jolly.

So, with that being said, I can’t blame my dislike of this book on it being “too early because well, I’ve seriously got the early Christmas bug this year.

What I can blame is Nick. I didn’t like him.

I didn’t ever see what Teddy saw in Nick and Nick never really seemed all that into Teddy. Teddy kind of pushed, he just kept putting it out there and I felt like Nick just kind of caved. Was there ever a realization or confession of serious want? I feel like I totally missed it if there was. This felt convenient.

I liked the idea of the small town, the big close family and the hope, that all made sense to me. Nick and Teddy just didn’t.

Oh well.

Perfect start to the season of Christmas themed reads. :)
I greatly enjoyed reading/listening to how this grumpy Santa and the spirited Elf found together!
The audio was well done, except the voice for Teddy sometimes drifted off into a range I didn't like for him.

Better Not Pout by Annabeth Albert is why I love holiday reads.

Feel good + grumpy Santa + loving Elf + Snowstorm + hot chemistry + Annabeth Albert = WINNER.

What I loved:

-Opposites attract. Nick and Teddy had completely different personalities but complimented each other well.

-Dual POVs

-Relationship development. Their feelings going from casual to serious felt very natural and genuine. They were perfect for one another in and out of the bedroom, and we were shown this throughout the book.

-Teddy. Although I loved both main characters, Teddy truly stole my heart. His giving nature and maturity made me wish he was real.

-Age gap. What I wrote for opposites attract would apply here as well- despite their age difference (46 and 28) these two clicked. Teddy came at a time in Nick's life where his old life was ending, and a new journey begins.

-Chemistry: smoking hot.

-And the end was warm fuzzy goodness.

Any negatives?NONE.

Do I recommend this?

3.5 to 4*

It took me awhile to settle into this book and honestly early on it was touch and go for a while. This was mainly due to Nick who does a very good impersonation of the grinch.
But I’m getting ahead of myself let me start at the beginning.

We have Sergeant Major Nicholas Nowicki who somehow gets roped into playing Santa. Now Nick is counting down. He’s weeks away from retiring from the army after twenty-eight years service. They won’t let him re-up so in a months time he’s heading to Florida. His plans are set, no more snow he’s buying a boat and enjoying some sun.
Nick is forty-six and that’s one of the reasons I wanted to read this book. I like an age gap romance.

Teddy MacNally is an absolute delight. I loved everything about him. He’s twenty-eight, out and fully accepted by the small town he lives in. That in itself is refreshing.

I enjoyed a lot of this book. Teddy in particular but also when Nick relaxes and we see him with Teddy. The heat sizzles and the sex is slow and hot. These scenes are incredibly well written.

My main problem was Nick. His past is explained and I understand why he’s like he is. And I truly wanted him to find happiness with Teddy and acceptance in Mineral Spirits. But at times his character felt a bit flat and his obsession with the age difference really annoyed me.
Okay so the age difference is nearly twenty years so I appreciate it’s going to give him pause. Especially when you take Micah into consideration. But Nick get over it already Teddy is perfect grab him with both hands and never let go.

I finished this book in the early hours and my rating then was 3 to 3.5*. But while writing this review I realised it’s a better book than that so I’m upping it to 3.5 to 4*.

Warm, romantic, and festive!

Better Not Pout is a sweet, tender, captivating novel that features the kindhearted, fun-loving Teddy, and the grouchy, mature Nick as they discover that the heart wants whom the heart wants, and sometimes opposites really do attract.

The writing is heartfelt and comforting. The characters are winsome, dependable, and genuine. And the lighthearted plot is a charming mix of undeniable attraction, sizzling chemistry, Christmas celebrations, charity, patience, understanding, new journeys, and taking chances.

Overall, Better Not Pout is a delightfully merry, passionate, humorous tale that reminds us that the holiday season is truly a time for family, magic, love, and giving.

2.5 rounded down. This was ok but I unfortunately didn't love it. It all felt pretty surface level and superficial. It was mostly telling and not showing, which was a disappointment. For example, we are told they shared lengthy conversations but don't see them as a result the relationship seemed to be based solely on sex and not deeper connection. The sex was great but the balance between sex and the rest was off. the characterization was weird: Nick seems unsure of his bedroom abilities, we are told that but as soon as they are in bed he takes charge and is, of course, amazing. I rounded down because at some point it felt like they were thinking in circles, it got old and felt like manufactured angst. They both had interesting backstories that we don't really them share with each other and that was not explored enough to me. I didn't really feel the small town vibe (we were told about it many times but didn't see it) or the Christmas vibe. the blurb says that Teddy loves Christmas but I didn't see it. same for his close family relations. That may be because they attend Thanksgiving at Teddy's family but we don't see the conversations, everything is summarize. Well that was a miss but I'm not giving up this author yet because I've read other books by them I've liked. Onto the next

Annabeth Albert’s Christmas reads always deliver on the sweet romance, a good dose of sexiness, and the holiday cheer. ‘Better Not Pout is no different.

This book has a few things going for it - an age gap, a grumpy Santa, a sweet elf, a big family, and all of it in a small wintery town.

I’m a sucker for holiday reads set in small towns. It just makes the story a tad more romantic.

description

The romance revolves around two very different men who find themselves snowed in together. The situation isn’t ideal, especially for Sergeant Major Nicholas Nowicki, but the sexual tension is undeniable.

Nick and Teddy MacNally are polar opposites. Nick is gruff, isn’t a big believer in love, and isn’t a fan of winter. Teddy is warm, wears his heart on his sleeve, and is all about the candy canes and snowflakes.

But Teddy sees right through Nick’s hard shell to the soft man underneath, and Nick finds it hard to not care for the younger man.

Though Nick knows it’s not the best idea, he can’t resist what Teddy is offering.

And let me tell you - Teddy and Nick definitely bring the heat!

That initial hookup sets the pattern for their relationship - brief captured moments while the two help out with a charity drive, and with the understanding that it’ll end when Nick moves away after his approaching retirement.

But in the meantime, the two men spend the holiday season together. They play Santa and his elf for the charity drive, attend the rowdy MacNally family’s Thanksgiving extravaganza, and cuddle while it snows outside.

description

And slowly but surely feelings get involved. Because Teddy just wants to love and be loved, and Nick so needs someone to love him.

I wanted to punch Nick a couple of times for being so set against an actual relationship with Teddy. And my heart hurt for Teddy, even as he tried to deny that he was falling hard for his military man.

But this is Annabeth Albert after all, so the bit of angst is worth the spectacular happy ending. Nick and Teddy get the perfect happy ever after, with some mistletoe on top.

If you’re looking for a holiday read that’ll give you warm and fuzzy feelings, give ‘Better Not Pout a try!

What a bite of deliciousness!!!

Yes this was all things Christmassy Good and I loved every moment of it.

I’m not going to say much more than that as there are great reviews already posted about this little beauty.

But it’s good. It’s warm and fuzzy and it even made me blink rapidly a few times there.

I’m just so happy Nick had to stand in for Santa. And so happy Teddy was his Elf.

I loved both of the MC’s. I loved the story I loved the “small Town feel and I loved that Nick has a place to belong to at long last.

Grumpy(but a softie on the inside)/sunshine romance goodness with an extra helping of cozy winter festiveness.

Sergeant Major Nicholas Nowicki comes across as a gruff no-nonsense type of guy. But when his CO asks him to fill in as Santa, when her husband falls sick, he readily agrees.

Teddy is the head elf in charge to Nick's santa. He's tired of people underestimating him because of his youthful looks. But he doesn't let that get in the way of being the running the charity and making sure it's the best christmas yet.

I loved Teddy and Nick's playful banter. From when Nick splits the pants of his santa suit to the first time Teddy manages to crack a smile out of Nick.

A perfect holiday read!

My first holiday read for the year, and boy was it a good one!

Teddy first meets Nick when they have to spend some time together for a Santa and elf holiday photo shoot. To Nick, Teddy is everything that he is not - young, vibrant, full of pep and life. Nick sees himself as someone getting ready to be put out to pasture. he is retiring from the military and doesn't quite know what to do with himself. He plans on moving from NY to Florida to help a friend out and to enjoy the sun, sand, and beach.

Both knowing that any time they spend together has a clear expiration date, Teddy and Nick still give in to their attraction. And boy, these two brought the heat! Nick is 46 I believe, and Teddy is 28? So CHECK for a sexy age gap romance. And Nick is also all muscle, huge, and towers over Teddy. Can I just say yum? I love how Nick was so aware of his size and making sure he didn't accidentally hurt Teddy, but Teddy just wanted Nick to unleash on him.

I really loved the writing in this, and I loved the characters and all the feels - and there were a lot of them in this story. Both were self-sacrificing - Nick wanting to let Teddy find someone who would give him everything in life, and Teddy wanting Nick to be happy in sunny Florida and find whatever happiness he could. But I love that they both realized that they could compromise, and that being together was worth it.

Definitely recommend this story for a feel good, sexy, emotional Christmas story!

2019 audio review

The audio is really good. I do recommend. This story is all around adorable. It's about learning what you really want in life and realizing the dream you have shouldn't be pursued if that means ignoring or pushing aside something equal to or better than that dream.

It's Christmas!!!!! Well, almost. But this book certainly put me in the holiday spirit. :D For those who have read Annabeth Albert's Out of Uniform Series, Better Not Put is nothing like that. I've not read all of AA's stories so I don't know if it's similar to any of her other work, but I have read the majority of her Uniform series and the type of story this is is completely different. Same great writing quality, but the characters are different.

Teddy is a bubbly happy person who sees the good in everyone, wants to help everyone and do everything he can to make their wishes come true. He is 28 and living in a small town with little to no hope of finding a partner. He is very close to his family (large extended family too) and the people in his town. I absolutely adored Teddy and his attitude. And boy, do I wish there was a picture of him in his elf costume. ;) Bet that was totally cute.

Nick is Teddy's complete opposite. He's in his 40s, about to retire from the military as an MP (military police), and he's basically a grump. Not close to his family (for reasons), doesn't think he deserves to be happy with someone (his last relationship didn't go well), and he has resigned himself to living life alone, except for some friends - maybe. Nick fills in as Santa for Teddy's charity center and no, the sparks don't instantly fly between them. They certainly notice each other, and that was GREAT! Don't get me wrong, I love a good "love at first sight" tale (mostly), but I want some realism mixed in and Teddy and Nick get to know each other before they jump into bed (or was it the couch?).

Not a slow burn, per se, but Nick doesn't want to start something with Teddy when he is only going to be in town another month before he retires and moves to Florida. Teddy is hesitant for the same reason, except he is much more willing and ready to be with Nick just for the sake of sex while Nick is in town. And yeesh, was there a lot of sex. Waaaaaay too much sex. I'd guess 70% of the story is sex (just a guess; may not be that high). I got so sick of the sex I skipped it, like all of it. I didn't even read the kissing because I was so over them being together in that way. Sure, they are trying to pack in as much of the orgasms as they can before Nick leaves town, but does it all need to be on page? The story could have (would have) been much shorter without all the unnecessary on page sex.

I don't want to spoil the ending but of course there is a happy one, I just won't share what that is. Nick and Teddy had a great romance in the month they had together, and despite not wanting to fall in love or caring about the other, they couldn't fight it and that made for a delicious holiday story. There was so much snow and winter in this tale I wanted to move to Florida myself. ;) This will make for a delightful read snuggled up in a blanket next to a fire drinking hot chocolate.

I give this 4 stars.

Unicornian Amigo Review with ADAM!

This was the Christmas story for me this year. I love me all the holiday short stories and I have a tendency to gravitate towards them during the holidays for a couple of reasons; one, it’s all the attention span I generally can manage and two, for the gorging, I’m in for the quantity I can cram because I don’t want to miss any of the flavors on offer. I do manage one or two full length holiday novels and I’m so glad this year I read Better Not Pout, it ticked ALL my boxes for a Christmas story.

ALL. MY. BOXES.

Sergeant Major Nick, the reluctant Santa to Teddy’s exuberant elf was an MC I could totally fall for. He’s intense and stoic, but underneath the MP exterior is a big heart that’s been buried under a uniform since he enlisted. Nick’s entire adult life has been the military and as his reenlistment is denied and he’s being forced into retirement he’s at a bit of a loss. Sure, he’s got a plan, and it sounds idyllic on paper, I could tell from the beginning that it wasn’t necessarily a passion for him to look forward to.

Teddy is a homespun young man who gives everything of himself to his town and through the community center he manages, helps his neighbors who need it most. Everyone loves Teddy, myself included and his positivity is infectious. He’s the perfect person for his role in the community and his only struggles lie in the fact that many people still see him as the kid he was before college and his lack of opportunity for romance in his small town.

Nick and Teddy may not have a lot in common, but they have both resigned themselves to living life without romance and frankly, their acceptance of their “fates is just downright sad. Good thing Nick gets roped in to play Santa for the community center! NIck is in turn irritated and fascinated with Teddy’s effervescence and Teddy is in turn, irritated and fascinated with Nick’s stubborn strength. I loved their banter as they got to know one another and the respect that grew between them during their forced holiday teamwork added depth to their growing relationship.

Nick is concerned about their age difference, but the author gave Teddy a forthright and honest attitude that worked with his personality and showed his maturity organically. He was able to combat any of Nick’s ridiculous arguments to them not spending time together with super annoying (to Nick) logic and reason. The two decide to make the most of the time Nick has before he officially retires and moves to Florida.

The clock is ticking and of course the two are falling for each other hard. The physical relationship is amazing, but the emotional connection they have is something neither of them expected they would ever have. Enter . . . the angst. It’s not out of place though or OTT. It’s reasonable and realistic and once I hit that mark of the story there was no putting my Kindle down until the HEA happened. And we all know the HEA is going to happen, it’s a Christmas story after all and the HEA was delivered with a big beautiful bow. I believed in the epilogue and was all kinds of warm and snuggly as I read it. Better Not Pout was the best holiday book hug and it’s getting a top spot on my reread list.

A terrific tale of opposites for this Christmassy book. Beginning with a rescue...
Younger Teddy, 28, smaller, toned, blonde curls

and a selfless giver to others, meets older, Sergeant Major Nick Nowicki, 46, military policeman,

short hair and beard, who is tall, built and strong.
Despite the opposites, our men both serve the public, have big hearts and huge love to give. Finally, after years of each man's yearning and loneliness, they find their true love.

Nick will be retiring from the military, and has promised to work with a friend in a Florida fishing tour business. Teddy has an enormous family and deep ties to his community. Nick is filling in for an ill Santa,

and he and Teddy are becoming very close.
Inner struggles, intense thoughts and much hope and angst are revealed. The men don't want to part, but promises had been made.

Extremely erotic and passion filled sex, breathtaking and exploring, so fulfilling and comforting. I cried several times.

Neither man has ever felt these immense feelings before. We see both sides of the families, and friends, events, a thwarted robbery, and much more.
Beautifully written by Annabeth Albert, who gives us amazing characters we love. A marvelous epilogue, too.
Highly recommended ! ENJOY !

Thank you Martin for reminding me of this one ! I re-read it !

Dual POV with a delicious age gap, hot sex, feels, and a very happy ending.

It took me a bit to get into it, but once I did, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.

I loved how Nick and Teddy had similar character-forming experiences in their childhood and how it made them able to relate on a deeper level.

Terrific holiday read!
