Kristin Schall, Helen Hunt, Sarah Silverman, Tig Notaro, Amy Shumer, Paula Poundstone, Rosie O'Donell, ELLEN, Rosanne, and on and on and on...

I really like the point about the scene in The Tall Guy. Also, Simon, I think a lot of people handle sex scenes by leaving the crucial moment to the imagination. There can be a lot of humor around that, though. In Bridget Jones, there isn't erotica-style description, but there is generally a lot of hilarious leading up to the suggestion of the deed

Yes, the arrogance is a fine line. I can hang with ditzy, though. I really like The Shopoholic series and Bridget. I don't mind a heroine who starts out huffy and high-status, and learns something from being taken down a peg or two

Much like ordering a Diet Coke to go with your Burger Deluxe at the diner!

Mmmm... coffee and pastry.

I'm with you. The interesting part about her is how dark she can be contrasted with how fluffy she can be. The first Shopaholic is like candy! I wish I had never read it so I could read it right now. I'm searching for something that fun, light, and well written. Sadly, that genre seems like it's getting muscled out of romance. Any suggestions, anyone?

Loved that piece. Well done, and a total illustration of what I like about funny + sexy. I didn't know you! Am checking out your rom coms!

Hodder and Stoughton do really good Chick Lit books...

That's a great review! Yes, I think I'm definitely not alone in wanting humor in the bedroom. In real life AND on the page.

Man, you are totes right about the potential for things to go wrong! "Ouch, you're on my hair!" comes to mind. I agree with you that there's nothing sexier than a partner who can make you laugh in bed.

Glad you suggested this. Based on the title, it wouldn't have immediately spoken to me. But your recommendation makes me want to look into it. I appreciate your steering me there!

Thanks for the tip! Will totally look that up.

Thanks, Lorraine. Yeah, I totally forgot about Lindsey Kelk! Time to re-explore.
BTW, do you listen to a lot of books?
My friend, Tim O'Mara, is a mystery writer and his contract didn't include audio books. He's trying sell rights on his own. I wondered if people really listened to them much, and if there was much of a market.
Would love to hear your experiences...

Do funny female literary characters strike you as unlikable? Would you ever be BFFs with one?

Having been a stand-up comic, I've faced a lot of "women can't be funny" (an opinion famously shared by Jerry Lewis and Jeremy Piven).

I know funny books can have sex scenes, but can sex scenes themselves be funny?

That is a fab description. I'm hooked already, and will look for your book, for sure.
Bridget Jones is a little Lucy Ricardo, right? But 21st century. Lucy wouldn't have shown her underpants in public.
I love and read all kinds of fiction, including many types of romance. I just read a sweet one by Eileen Goudge called The Diary, and am now in the middle of No-one Ever has Sex on a Tuesday. Next up, probably what the British would call a bonkbuster OR a New Adult-style romance.

Aimee, I do love Marian Keyes. She's so raw and honest. Both you and N.M. bring up an interesting class of this type of books: Really hot funny books!
I know Aimee's writing is in the hottie category!
I don't know either Wallbanger or Confessions of an Alli Cat. Am on it! Now that you bring that up, I am thinking about Jennifer Crusie. She's hilarious and she can write a crazy-steamy sex scene, suitable for smart girls!
Sex+Humor=What's not to love?

Chick Lit has been my go-to genre for relaxing for many years. I'd have to say my top choices are kind of obv: Bridget Jones blew my mind, and still does each time I reread it. I also love GOOD IN BED by Jennifer Weiner, which is hilarious, but much darker and heavier. I'm a big sucker for any English Chick Lit and adore Trisha Ashley, Jill Mansell, and Katie Fforde.
