You gotta love the cover on this one. All black and crimson, showing a chandeleir suspended from the ceiling, and across it, in gold, the byline and the title. Though I didn't pick it up for that, I picked it up for the byline

I waffled between two and three stars with this one. I'll give three stars to anything competent by the standards of the genre, meaning I'll put up with stuff in a category romance I wouldn't in nineteenth century literature, and this book is more than competent, so I decided on three.

The reason I considered two stars is that I loved this book through the first half or more, but as I approached the end I got more and more frustrated about the questions it raised without ever answering them. So f

I usually like paranormal strong women stories with a hint of romance and a lot of paranormal. This story Sunshine delivers with an extra punch - a coming of age story. Sunshine is a chef that works long hours at her job, but there is something missing in her life.

She goes to a cabin in the woods and is kidnapped by vampires. Although this is a vampire story, it is so much more. The depths of this novel are astounding. It has blood, guts, and gore, but it is not gratuitous. I once wrote to McKin
