"I’d no real idea that that wasn’t all there was to it. I suppose it happens to everyone sooner or later and it happens suddenly. You don’t think as you imagine you’re going to think: ‘This might be the girl for me This is the girl who is going to be mine. At least, I didn’t feel it that way. I didn’t know that when it happened it would happen quite suddenly. That I would say: ‘That’s the girl I belong to. I’m hers. I belong to her, utterly, for always. No. I never dreamed it would be like th ...more

"One doesn't recognize in one's life the really important moments—not until it's too late."

Read for November's Read Christie 2023.

Read Christie 2023's prompt for November was greed. Their opted choice was Endless Night, and I saw my chance to strike this off my tbr list. And I'm glad I did.

It was a lot better than what I expected, especially in the beginning when I was thinking it'd lean more towards a 3-star rating. But the further in I went, the more intrigued I became.

Overall rating: 3.75 sta

This book was not particularly enjoyable read - the lack of any substantial conflict sometimes made this a chore. But looking back at it, I appreciate Agatha Christie dealing with the stuff she did ( the fish-out-of-water struggle of humble class, the wealth dynamics) - although some of the those maybe doesn't work after the ending. ...more

The first 80% of the book is very slow and repetitive. I kept waiting for the story. The ending makes reading this worthwhile, with characters suddenly getting developed and the plot moving forward.

From BBC Radio 4 Extra:
Joy Wilkinson's adaptation of Agatha Christie's psychological thriller.

Amazing story, I wouldn't say it was written by Agatha Christie.

I thought I owned and had read every Agatha Christie book, but somehow I missed this one. It's quite unlike her other work. The first 3/4 of the book is about the main character's relationship, courtship, and marriage, then boom! Typically Christie plot twist. All of the pieces fell together. She really was the master of mystery.

This is seriously one of her most WTF books. Well played, Agatha. I'm still thinking about this one.
