Sometimes you watch a movie thinking Matt Damon is in it, but it turns out to be Jesse Plemons. This was a similar experience. The book was okay, but I expected horror and I got horror鈥檚 lost-long cousin.

If you pick this up, I suggest you adjust your expectations. This is an ominous book that seems to hint you鈥檙e going to read something shocking eventually, but it鈥檚 not quite like that. This isn鈥檛 horror.

I've read and liked experimental formats before. I five-starred House of Leaves, for example. I was not a fan of it this time. In particular, when the 4 minute, nothing-is-happening-on-screen and we are in the minds of the audience watching the film, I was increasingly annoyed as the minutes ticked by. Horror novel about a 1993 horror movie that never was released but gained cult status online at the horror websites. The book tells the story of the making of the film back then, including pages from the script, and also tells about the reboot of the film being made today. The narrator is the only living member of the cast, who takes part in both versions of the film.

I thought I was a fan of Paul Tremblay but the last 2 books I didn't like at all (this one and The Pall Bearer's Club).
In my opinion, he is too long-winded and the books have just kinda bragged and were so hard to get into and read.
I get annoyed (frustrated) waiting so long for something to happen and then its just that not great or nothing happens. And it is sad for me because this book sounded cool and I really wanted to like it.

WOW! That sentence was the last in the publisher鈥檚 blurb about the book and it represents how I feel perfectly. When I first saw this book either oh 欧宝娱乐 as a giveaway or on Netgalley, I wanted so bad to read it. It was all I could think of. And boy when I was approved I was so happy that I read it that day and read it in one day. Tremblay is one of my top 3 favorite authors and he knows how to tell a story that will stay with you for a long, long time. This book masterfully takes the past into the present and the present into the past.
Nostalgic and impressive Tremblay reaches down into your chest and grabs your soul while you are on the ride of your life鈥�.. College kids decide to make a horror movie and something happens that keeps the whole movie from being made. Years later, Hollywood decides that they want to remake what was done while using the only person left鈥�.the thin man. His selective memories are the catalyst for how this plays out. The thin guys memories are woven into the pieces that will be cut together to make this movie. There has been a huge cult following ever since the 90鈥檚 when this movie was in its infancy so they need to make it as good as they can and with a budget that would put it up there with the likes of Texas Chainsaw Masacre.
The book is slow at first but as it builds up the suspense and is chilling and teeming with heart pounding scenes. I am in love with Tremblay and his ability to weave psychological terror and thrilling suspense together while keeping you, the reader, so entranced and entertained. Tremblay never left any clues to what happened throughout and so that made it harder to figure out exactly what was about to happen but when it did happen鈥︹€�.IT HAPPENED. The ending of this movie was terrifying. You won鈥檛 expect it nor will you recover from it. I know that this may not be for everyone but for those of you who love gory horror movies, YOU WILL LOVE THIS BOOK. Please run and get your copy now.

Interesting enough, the audiobook version definitely brought this up
鈥� The audiobook has really cool audio effects- loved that aspect and highly recommend listening to this one
