This was the first time reading this author and now I'm sold! This book just had the right touch of rich storytelling, wonderful characters and a little bit of magic mixed with, my favorite, sensuous food telling. I loved how she wrote the characters in this story. They had strength & vulnerability and my favorite character of all was the town where this story took place. You know you've come across a great author when she can give a place or city a personality. The pace of the story was perfect

I like Allen's light romances. The closest I really come to reading any kind of romance whatsoever is Sophie Kinsella, so I didn't even really recognize Allen's books as romances till I saw Garden Spells in the romance books in a used book section! This one I'd say is just a touch more obvious, but she still doesn't take the romance info too far.

The words flow and wrap around the reader in the style of many quirky, magical stories set in the South. One can feel the mists and heat and emotions in the story. As we follow Emily and Julia in their journey toward truth and reality, we are caught in the pleasure of the swirling events that shape and define their lives. The ripple effect of a single descision leads us gently through the story line. It also caused this reader to consider events in my life in a similar vein. The author draws us

Sixteen year-old Emily has come to stay with her grandfather in the quirky town of Mullaby, N.C. after her mother dies trying to learn about her mother's life and trying to fit in. Meanwhile, neighbor Julia is back in Mullaby temporarily to settle up some unfinished business and baking cakes she hopes will bring love back into her life. Strange, and magical things happen in the town. Similar to Adddison Allen's other books this one is just as charming and wil

All of Allen's books involve food, and I'm not complaining. All the senses are involved, whenever she describes a person or place there is a visual and a scent--good ol' southern comfort--pulling you deeper into the story.

I'm sad this book is over. I'm sad I read it so fast and didn't savor the story more. I'm sad that I've now read all of Sarah Addison Allen's novels.
The Girl Who Chased the Moon may be my favorite of Allen's book (although Garden Spells is right up there). I love the mystery, the subtle romance, the magic found in nature or food or books. I love the quirky, but lovable characters.
I just love Allen's writing. ...more
