What Members Thought

"Garden Spells" was the first book by Sarah Addison Allen that I picked up and read. I loved it! I didn't think the next could be as good. It was even better. Each book by Sarah is better than the last. This one is no exception. It takes place in North Carolina and is full of delightful characters oozing Southern charm and eccentricities. And as always there is magic. In this town, there are also secrets. Emily's mother is killed in a car accident and she comes to live with a grandfather she has

I love her books. Story of Emily, figuring her story out. Romantic and magical. Loved this quote, it rang true: "...adolescence is like having only enough light to see the step directly in front of you, and no farther." Such a hard time of life - so fun, so difficult, so fraught with emotion and vulnerability

Loved this book. I wanted to read it slowly because I didn't want it to end. Want to read more books by this author.

This magical story takes place in a small town in North Carolina, where a teenage girl is becoming acquainted with a grandfather she never knew existed, and adult town members are finally coming to terms with events that happened twenty years ago in high school. There's a bit of mystery and magic thrown in that make it interesting. I found the characters to be very likable and the ending to be what I wanted. I would definitely read a sequel to this book.

I have not read an Allen book that I didn't love! Allen has a way of drawing her readers in quickly and intimately with her characters. One finds themselves completely concerned with the characters' lives and the outcome of their stories. Allen has a magical talent. This was a beautiful story about breaking from tradition and healing old wounds. Newer generations do not have to pay for the sins of their elders. Love can heal.

I picked this up yesterday and it was a wonderful quick read. I really enjoyed the mystery and magic of the town. I am definitely going to read some of this author's other books.

I really enjoy her style of writing. I love learning about all the characters of this town. I have read every book, but one and am eagerly awaiting it from the library. I can't wait for this author to write another novel. It's a perfect beach read. I have liked every female character so far too which is not always easy for an author to do. Every time I need a little girl talk and my girls aren't around, I feel like I can read these books and connect.
