The first 2 chapters convey what happened. It goes nowhere in particular at glacial speed. Ch. 4 had a nice bit about rude forward men, with a metaphor about imagining everyone walking down the street wanting a bit of your sandwich and being very indignant if you didn鈥檛 hand it over.
