This is 3.5 stars. It's well written and totally real. Set in 1986, Eleanor and Park become friends in HS. Eleanor is a “big" girl with bright red hair (called "Big Red") and describes herself as a barmaid. She recently returned to her home in Omaha. Every moment in Eleanor's life is terrifying and claustrophobic due to abusive alcoholic stepfather, Richie. Both her mother and Eleanor, the oldest of her siblings, live in constant fear. WORST. ENDING. EVER.
Okay but no really, that ending? That ending was not fair. There was nothing okay about any of that. So I fell in love with Rainbow Rowell after reading Fangirl, which you should all read because it is a book about EVERYTHING. And then, Rainbow is on Tumblr, and she loves to post fanart, and there is a LOT of fanart of Eleanor, and I fell in love with Eleanor and decided to read this book. Beautiful, touching story of two teens who find love when they really need it in this difficult world.
Love, love, loved it! Hard to put down I read this in a little over two days.
