What Members Thought

This book is devastating, relentless, and depressing. It should be required reading for all U.S. citizens. High school history classes really should teach kids just exactly how our country expanded west. As an American of European descent, I am thoroughly disgusted. Invasion and destroying other people's cultures is bad enough, but we did even worse than take the Indians' land and systematically destroy so many of their cultures. Read on.

The lower rating is not because this is a bad book, but because this is a history book and that's just not my favorite genre, as much as I have grown to love historical fiction. So no, I am definitely not the target audience. That said, what kept me listening to this book was Grover Gardner's narration. He narrates all of the Vorkosigan books by Lois McMaster Bujold and he was one of the early narrators that made me fall in love with audiobooks. His distinctive voice was perfect for thi ...more

I'm sure this isn't the most comprehensive book about Native American History but it's at least better than we learned in school. It makes me have even more respect for the resilience of the Native American people. They still get up and fight even today when it seems that government is still against them.
