Shen: This is my first Alma Katsu book and I really enjoyed the mix of historical fiction and the horror of the treatment of Japanese folks during this time with the supernatural elements. I do wish there had been more of the supernatural in it and it does shy away from more radical and pointed political critiques, but it still works overall for me as an interesting horror book.
