If you're starting to read this book and begin to grit your teeth and find Cat annoying, and her mother irritating, and you're contemplating giving up...wait. Keep reading.

As with many series nowadays, this first book suffers from a trite and disjointed beginning. But, as soon as the character Bones comes on the scene, Frost's story gains clarity and momentum. This book should come with a warning label: do not read while driving, operating heavy machinery, or on a ten minute break at work! Seriously. When our heroine and her gorgeous vampire beau finally have their big consummation, I was between classes and practically needed a defibrillator before I could face my second-period students.

Recommended UF series for fans of kick-butt heroines, tasty heroes, and a lot of romantic tension to offset the action.

I've never read anything from Jeaniene Frost before, but I absolutely devoured every page of this book. I was a definite page turner that left me wanting more of the same. Cat and Bones are a great pairing for both combustible action and romantic tension. Cat has been raised to despise her vampire side, and it's great to watch her learn how to accept and use the power she has. B

good. enjoyed but almost gave it a three (read 3.5) because some places seemed a little sloppily written, some places some of the raunchy lines were jarring and didn't go with the flow of the book, and sometimes I wanted to slap her silly because she went from hate to love to hate to love to... every 10 seconds. but i really did enjoy the book. ...more

This was okay though oddly violent for the paranormal romance genre. The author has some interesting themes but her execution needs some work.
