Two middle eastern girls fall in love since a young age, but homosexuality is taboo in her culture. When one of the girls is about to get married via an arranged marriage, the other one questions whether or not she wants to undergo gender reassignment surgery, which is legal in Iran. This book was a quick read but I enjoyed the story, and felt that it had interesting and realistic characters.

I have had this book on my to-read list for a while and finally got to it. The premise intrigued me - two young Iranian girls in love with each other, living in a place where being gay is punishable by imprisonment and or death. How would it be possible to navigate this? The answer is, it isn't easily possible.
I expected this book to be claustrophobic and sad, which it was, but I wish it were a little bit better written. I felt badly for the characters and their circumstances. I can't imagine be ...more
