I was twelve when I first read this, and like most everyone else loved it. I have (of course) seen the movie over the years. I am now settling in to re-read my original copy of this which has a delightful fold out cover and maps. I love maps. =) . I am curious to see what parts that my twelve year old self failed to grasp or merely skipped over.

I've seen and loved the movie so many times, and actually thought I had already read the book. Even while I was reading, there were some parts I could swear I've read before, but I don't have it marked on goodreads, so I guess maybe not.
I've debated about 4 or 5 stars for the book, but honestly, if I rated it 5 stars, it would be because of my love for the movie. I really enjoyed the book, but the long chapters William Goldman made up about himself were not very interesting to me, and definitel ...more

I will happily read this book again. It has everything you’d want in a fairy tale.
Goldman put all the best parts of the book in the screenplay. So, the moments I love the most in the film are here with more fun scenes and comic moments.
He interrupts the action to tell you something about the original book. It’s so cute. And...it has me thinking, was there actually an original book? Or is it all his own? I really don’t care because I love it that much. :-)

It's kind of hard to review this book after seeing the movie, one of my favorites, so many times! The book was quite interesting in the way he narrated it like he was actually abridging a book written by a man from the actual country of Florin, and the real and imaginary were so interwoven that it was kind of surreal.
