Unapologetically wholesome, sentimental, and kind-hearted, this is either a book that will hit you just right or will make you want to barf. Most women my age (50ish) read it when they were children and loved it. I missed it somehow back then, even though I'd read many adjacent books that you'd think would have led me there (Little Women, Secret Garden, Heidi, etc.).

I saw the movies long, long ago, and I was impressed with how true to the book the first one is. What language! What dialog! My favorite part was definitely the glimpse into daily mentalities and lifestyles of another time period. It's a lovely book.
