Arg. Really?
Where do I even start with my impressions of this book? First up, it's narrated by the actor who plays Joe in the series, which was a winner - he's an amazing narrator & that voice is like a cup of hot, strong coffee on a cold day. But - this is probably the only good thing I can say about this book. I know I'm in the minority, but I just couldn't stomach the horror of the characters of both Beck & Joe. That's right - Beck too. I'm not so sure what all the hype was about this book, I didn't overly love it and didn't think it was the most outstanding book I've read. I didn't particularly like the way it was written from the point of view of the stalker, in my opinion. But I'm sure I'm the only person who felt this way. Maybe the book is more geared for YA or younger readers than myself (I'm in my 60s).

Ok first of all, I am so damn glad to be done with this book. I felt like the longer I spent inside Joe's mind, the more my thoughts sounded like his. Minus the whole creepy stalker shit he had going on.
And what a mind he had. So engaging. I was pulled in from the very first sentence. And to be honest, I kept refering to him as 'This Fucken Creep' or 'Oh My God This Guy is such a Stalker/Psycho'. Because really, he is. And the kicker is: JOE DOESN'T THINK HE'S ONE. JOE THINKS HIMSELF I 3/5 Stars.

My God. And the ease with which he was able to get information on Beck is scary. Like really scary. I have to remember to update all my privacy settings on all social networks and unlike my goodreads from my facebook because of the shit Joe does to 'get to know' Beck. The whole time I was reading I just kept thinking how good it was that he was a drop-out and that he hadn't gone to college because if he had, this would have been a whole other ball-game. A whole lot messier.
Not that it isn't already. Messy that is.
The story is told like Joe is talking to Beck. A one-sided constant internal conversation with thr object of his obsessive affection. And it's funny. And he's blunt. And he hates on Dan Brown and to a minor degree Stephen King and all the while I'm thinking, 'my god this guy. Omg...' Because I was really afraid that inspite of all the shit he did that I'd end up liking him. Me and my obsession with dark characters. It didn't happen. Thank fuck.
And a lot happened. The lengths he went to for this girl, my god. His obsession had a single-mindedness that scared me if I really thought about it. Which I didn't do too often.
Beck is, sigh. I really didn't care about her to be honest. Not until towards the end.
The ending left me mad. So damn mad.
Overall this book was a great fast-paced creepy thrill. Its definitely left me cautious about being more private on social network because of the potential Jow's out there. My god Joe though. I'll never forget this sick man. ...more
