Many years ago when I was young enough to think that writing needed to be obtuse and tortured in order to be good and looked down my nose at "romances" a co-worker at the book store told me I should read Julie Garwood. I told her I don't read romances, they are all rapey and awful (in my defense many were). She kept telling, no these are really good. They are fun and charming and entertaining.
