Huhhh. Mixed feelings about this one.
I liked the gritty, post-apocalyptic Oz that Danielle Paige has created. I also appreciated how dark the book was: Dorothy and her friends are truly terrifying, and there were parts of the book that literally made me gag because they were so twisted. And Paige takes an interesting spin on the story, by making all the "Good" characters evil and the "Wicked" characters good (although I suppose Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the W ...more

Danielle Paige, you are a crafty and maddening woman and I loved this damn book.
Seriously, a heroine that didn't want to make me punch her in the face (repeatedly), with sarcasm that could rival...well, mine...and who can actually kick some ass? Yeah. You sold me. I was kind of leery on Amy at the beginning, and I was worried that her "training" was going to be completely bypassed and that she'd become some fantastical warrior of Oz with absolutely no explanation as to how. the wizard of oz is my favourite movie so it's no surprise that this is now one of my favourite books I love the references to the original it was so well done I would read it again
