A fun read, as expected considering the previous books of the series. The world is complicated and well structured, the dialogue amusing and the characters likable.
Alexia gets herself in a lot of trouble once again, some by accident, others by ignorance or thoughtlessness. She causes some big changes in the world around her, some good and some not so good, but changes nonetheless.
I'm curious to see what she'll do next, her and her "infant inconvenience". ...more

**3.5-ish**
I have a great fondness for Alexia. Her exploits continue to entertain. However, as my friend CJ expressed in her review, there was some indefinable spark missing from this book. I also echo her sentiment that much of the plot might have been capably - and more enjoyably - handled in a short story or two. As a novel, there just wasn’t enough meat to it.
But before I try to reason that out: I was so pleased to once again have Akeldama’s societal schemes and italicized utterances pepper ...more

So much FUN!!
Alexia and infant inconvenience waddle up new adventure. Bringing havoc to London, the vampires and the werewolves all together.
It started out with a ghost who cryptically said that someone wants to kill the queen.

Alexia's investigation unexpectedly uncover her father past and the Wolsey's pack secret. However, that was not what the ghosts (yes, plural) was talking about.
So, Alexia was back to square one.
Apparently she was missing the most important clue, (view spoiler) ...more

Alexia pulls it off again. She is quite remarkable. This book has a great plot and even greater characters. I can't wait till the next book.

Our intrepid preternatural is back. Despite being hampered by the 'infant-inconvenience', Alexia is up to her neck in trouble - from vampires trying to kill her to saving the queen.
I enjoyed this installment better than the previous one, maybe because the other characters get more page time, not to mention, secrets from their pasts.
As usual, Carriger's prose is filled with wit and sarcasm, and everything reads better with a steaming cup of tea. ...more

Another fun read from Gail Carriger and her Parasol Protectorate. Heartless is a great addition to the series. Book number four finds Alexi Tarabotti Maccon has been reinstated to her position as muhjah and is in the final weeks (months?) of her pregnancy. Although quite uncomfortable in her pregnancy, Alexi still manages to relocate her household to London and stumble upon a plan to kill the queen.

Once I started this book I couldn't put it down. This series just keeps getting more interesting with many intriguing revelations sprinkled throughout the story with lots of Carriger's sly humor and a great story.

It took me forever to read this story. I guess, I was kinda turned off at the beginning as (view spoiler) . I liked the ending though.
