I liked this, perhaps more than I had expected. Several years ago we watched Midsomer Murders on TV, the Barnaby series. I did not remember the actor's name (have since looked it up: John Nettles), but it was he I pictured throughout the novel. I freely admit I have only snapshots of various scenes logged into my memory and absolutely no episodes. When I mentioned the opening scene to my husband, he immediately said "Oh, I know who did it."
