I was so drawn into this story. Maddie's character development lifted my spirits and I was amazed at myself for how much I liked disliking the real monsters. I wonder if I would have made Maddie's final decisions faced with the other possible outcomes. when you come down to it the story ended very predictably and I wouldn't have it any other way. Ok, I really would have enjoyed Nessie chomping down on the other monsters.

Wow! I'm a huge fan of historical fiction and I think Gruen did it best with Water For Elephants. That was magical; not so much with At The Water's Edge. It felt like a report being read when the slightly blimished facts were given but when they were peppered into the story it flowed better. Aside from that, I absolutely loved the story of Maddie.
