Journey of self-discovery. It took a lot of pluck and courage to hike 1100 miles solo and relatively unprepared. Good for her. Mildly entertaining. Don't pick this up if you hope to find out anything about hiking or the Pacific Coast Trail. Flora and Fauna are flat secondary characters in this memoir about being figuratively on the brink of an abyss and coming through to other side. Oh, and being incredibly hot and desirable to every man she encounters even after weeks of no bathing and limited ...more

This book seemed to me a contradiction of many sorts. I loved this combo of memoir and adventure narrative of her torturous hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. Publication date March 2012.

I do love living vicariously through others, given that I'm never likely to hike the Pacific Crest Trail myself. ...more

This was an interesting read though I was expecting a little more spirituality and philosophical enlightenment. I enjoyed reading about the hiking aspects and all the various people she met along the trail.
