Journey of self-discovery. It took a lot of pluck and courage to hike 1100 miles solo and relatively unprepared. Good for her. Mildly entertaining. Don't pick this up if you hope to find out anything about hiking or the Pacific Coast Trail. Flora and Fauna are flat secondary characters in this memoir about being figuratively on the brink of an abyss and coming through to other side. This book seemed to me a contradiction of many sorts. I really wanted to like it a whole lot more- and perhaps I did- but for now, after finishing the book last night, I'm more confused than anything. The main character kept getting in the way of me truly connecting and liking the book! As ridiculous as that sounds. She was so maddening- her choices and decisions were so haphazordous, from childhood on. I was waiting for this momentous moment, this amazing feeling or string of emotions from her

Amazing! Bernadette Dunn was the perfect narrator for this book (I had a hard time getting used to her voice when I listened to "Under the Never Sky." And then when I finished I listened to the song "Into the Wild" by LP, which would be perfect if this book had a soundtrack. I do love living vicariously through others, given that I'm never likely to hike the Pacific Crest Trail myself.
