Buddy Read with the #cakeeaters.

About the first three books of this series:
I like the idea of the plot. The first book was slow burn with a lot of world building and the plot felt slow moving. It was an okay book. I like the main and side characters. I decided to read the next book. And here the pace changed: suddenly the plot was moving fast and I was wraped up in the story. I couldn't put it down. The relationship was building. At that point I felt like Lore understood Rose more than the othe Buddy Read with the #cakeeaters.

About the first three books of this series:
I like the idea of the plot. The first book was slow burn with a lot of world building and the plot felt slow moving. It was an okay book. I like the main and side characters. I decided to read the next book. And here the pace changed: suddenly the plot was moving fast and I was wraped up in the story. I couldn't put it down. The relationship was building. At that point I felt like Lore understood Rose more than the others but Jaro was the sweetest. I like that we get an insight to the Fomorians, especially Caed, his father the tyrant and Paedra his cousin. They life a very different life compared to the fae. So I moved on to the third book. But again this went a very different way, because the first 50% are about Rose's fever. And I skipped a lot of the smexy scenes, because if there are to much, I get bored. But I already knew this, because the others talked about it. Again after 50% things changed. The plot became more important and their lack of communication became more annoying. The next book will come out in 2024.

(view spoiler)[ Since I don't want to reread when the fourth books comes out here is a summary:
Book 1: Rose grows up in the human world. She is ill there and things got bad after her father had an accident and now beats the person, who takes care of him Rose. Her brother is married and has many kids. He doesn't live with Rose and his Dad. The story begins with the funeral of Rose's Dad. Her sister in law and Rose listen to a meeting of the men in town. While the creepy pastor wants to marry Rose off to a abusive guy, he also want her brother to become a gate keeper like his dad before him. Turns out that Rose is a Changeling. The fae gave her to her human foster parent, in exchange for some medicine for her foster brother, portions, gold and protection. Rose runs away. She can't believe the news. She is attacked but a wolf is there to protect her.
Oh I forgot about the imaginary persons: Rose sees three women: Maeve, Titiana and Mab. She talks to them all the time, but nobody else can see them. So they are with her when she reaches the house she lives in only to find a guy there, who is making food for her. Turns out the guy is Jaromir a wolf shifter and warrior knight of Elfhame. He tells her that they have to leave. Rose is in a weak state and Jaromir tells her to lose her iron cross and walking stick. Because fae can't stand iron. But there are more news: she is the Nicnevin a reincarnation of the Godess Danu. She is immortal unless she choses to die and pass on to the after world. She has five guards, who are also her mates and she has bonds to all of the five and Danu. Also the the woman she sees are the former Nicnevin. That said Jaromir and Rose meet Dystan. And the three of them travel to Elfhame. They enter faerie and Rose connects the land to Danu and suddenly nature comes back to life. This happens in every realm she travels to. She can feel her mates: Bree is tortured and the Redcap is somewhere she has to find. She finds Bree in a brothel. He is chained to a bed in iron and abused. And she connect with Danu and burns the brothel down, kills the madame and frees Bree. She meets Lore (not sure if she meets Lore first and then Bree). And all of them travel to Elfhame. There she meets her brother Florian, who is the Worrior Knight commander in charge of defending the city. It turns out that Drystan is the Lord of the hunt and she has to go with him on a hunt with the wild rite. There she saves a albino soul sucking monster puppy Wraith. She meets Cread. And she dies twice and both times she meets Danu and gets to decide if she will go back or not. (First time when Rose, Jaromir and Drystan are followed by the Fomorians and second time when Peadra tries to kill her brother and Rose jumps between them.) The second time she wakes up and tries to hide in a forrest only to be fooled by Cread, who poses to be one of her other guards. Paedra and Cread take her to their camp and then put her on a ship to cross the endless sea. In the next book Rose is travelling across the endless see. It turns out that she is very vulnerable to iron poisoning. And while she is out of it, Cread takes good care of her. When they finally reach the mountain of the fomorians, the King wants her to bow to him. But she doesn't do it. Instead she has to stay with Paedra. And slowly we find out that Paedra and Craed are tolerated at the court but also challenged all the time. The king starts abusing Rose by touching her wings, kill fae, cut of the wings of fae, cuts her hair and stuff like that. Rose needs to get out of there, but every time she gets closer to her mate Cread, he is nice to her for one minute and then he betrays her. Finally when the king has Cread beaten and decides to mate Rose and keep her as a brood mare the tattoo Bree transfer to her saves her from the forced mate bond. The snake coils around her and they get out. Then Rose jumps into the Deep caves, which are feared. The she is found by her missing brother Bram, who keeps her save. Finally Craed is in a cell (jail) is freed by Paedra. She wants to sneak him on her boat, because she was ordered to go back to Elfhame. But Craed wants to save Rose first. So he finds Bram and follows him to Rose. They make a deal: she will hear him out and he takes Bram with him but what both don't see: Rose kills herself.
Back in Elfhame Rose heals Florian who was badly injured before she was kidnapped and other Fae too. Jaromir becomes the new commander until Florian is healed up. She also heals Lore, who was injured when Cread and Paedra snuck into Rose's palace and threw him of her garden in the sky.
The outer walls of Elfhame are breached and broken and all fae are evacuated behind the inner walls. Rose is proclaimed the Nicnevin (coronation). And they decide that Florian will hold the Palace and the four mates and Rose will start the Pilgrimage. Turns out that Rose is very close to her fever. Which is basically like the heat of an omega in OV. So the first half of the third book is about the fever coming closer, them travelling around and bless tempels and sacred places. But the second half is about Rose visiting the courts. She starts in the Summer Court. There she meets her brother Madox. The queen doesn't want to swear felty to Rose and stalls. The Queen find Cread and puts him into the dungon because he was fighting Bree in an illegal fighting ring. They torture Cread. And the queen wants vengeance for Jaros father leaving her. To free Cread they agree that Jaro does take this challenge. If he wins the queen swears felty. The queen tortures Jaro's wolf with nightmares, in which Rose dies several times. And the wolf turns feral. But Rose charms the wolf to shift back to Jaro, while her brothers and the Redcap Lore frees Cread. Finally they can leave the court (Rose and Danu wanted to kill the queen, but she was saved by her guard, who called in a dept Rose owned her). The travel to the winter Court. There king is gone on a hunt and the Princesses keep Rose entertained with feast. It's a big ploy to capture her guards one by one first is Jaromire who is captured in his feral wolf form and put into an iron cage. There he finds Drake Rose's brother and his banshee mate. They are also caged. Next is Bree, who is tricked by his father and now Meal a former abuser has him brought in iron to her bedroom to use him again. Rose sends Lore to find Bram. Bram is meeting with Cread and Paedra, and finds out that there is a big plot going on. Bram and Lore decide to go to the palace and leave the other two behind. Lore brings in Redcaps for reinforcement. Then the king returns and Rose and Drystan go to throne room. There Rose sits in the throne where she is shackled in iron. Drystan frees her, but the other princess steals his head. Meal tells the soldiers who were glamoure as nobels to rip the caps of the red caps and all of them are killed. She also has the head of Drystan and Lore's cap. The king tells Rose to die and never come back. He attacks her with a knife but Bram jumps between her and it seems like he is killed. Rose falls out of a window, but because she trained her wing, she can save herself. She is on a beach has iron poisoning and has to get to safety. So she walks. And finally she uses the bond to call Cread, who comes to save her. The book ends here with a big cliffhanger. (hide spoiler)] ...more

cliffhanger!! so good though

Ugh - as a reader I get so impatient waiting for the next book, but given this quality, I get the wait. It takes time to craft it, though we fly through the pages when done.

But dang it, that ending hurt. I can鈥檛 wait to see what happens next and what kind of beat down the quintet of guards is going to throw, not to mention our little queen and the goddess on her side. Should be pretty epic.
