It's been a while since I've read Julia Quinn's books and I decided to pick her books up again after I've watched the Bridgerton Netflix series which starred Simon and Daphne from The Duke and I. My favorite character is Anthony, followed by Eloise which is why I decided to read this book. I liked seeing Anthony in his protective big brother glory and being a rake in the show. I was dying to read about him because he was dumped by Sienna in the show and I was so sad for him.

In this bo 4.5 stars.

It's been a while since I've read Julia Quinn's books and I decided to pick her books up again after I've watched the Bridgerton Netflix series which starred Simon and Daphne from The Duke and I. My favorite character is Anthony, followed by Eloise which is why I decided to read this book. I liked seeing Anthony in his protective big brother glory and being a rake in the show. I was dying to read about him because he was dumped by Sienna in the show and I was so sad for him.

In this book, Anthony starts off as being quite an asshole to Kate who has a prejudice against his 'kind' as a rake that he is not good enough for her sister. Her opinion of him can't be helped as Lady Whistledown always writes about Anthony and his shady activities with women but I feel it was slightly unfair of her to judge him based on that and immediately determine him to be unsuitable. Anthony was actually a really nice person and I feel he doesn't show his nice side to other people very often. Hence, people think he's a rake through and through.

I did like how Kate and Anthony started off as enemies, often arguing which amused me to no end because Anthony's anger during the 'serpentine' scene was funny and I liked Kate's sarcastic words towards him. She just knows how to get him off of his high horse/arrogance, so Anthony don't stay too arrogant. They had great chemistry even when arguing and I was not surprised to see them start to get along once Kate realized Anthony was not such a bad person after all. Anthony is an amusing person when he's mad, I always enjoy seeing him mad somehow. As for the bonding, I liked how Julia gave them time to bond with one another and allowed them to embrace their scarred selves and insecurities. Their inner thoughts were great insight as to how they felt and reason as to why they act in a certain way which was good in my opinion.

I normally do not like books that show side characters for a long period of time but because I watched the Netflix series, I had the image of everyone in my mind (and because I couldn't get enough of the Bridgerton family as I loved them), I liked the Pall Mall game they had which was well done. Though I was a little upset that my favorite character, Eloise didn't appear much in this book, I did like seeing Colin being his teasing self, pissing Anthony off whenever he has the chance.

4.5 Stars as I would have loved to see more love scenes between Kate & Anthony. ...more

Its a wonderful book. I have read this about 10 times already. all the wit and humor had me shaking in my sofa, while reading. that's what it does. Julia Quinn's books make you feel alive, moving, and full of something (love?) in the heart... ...more
