Great setting, action, and local dialect for this Alaska-set mystery.
Highly-recommended.

1.Plot � Kate Shugak left the DA’s office over a year ago after a bust went bad. She’d gone to the home of a child abuser and come out with her throat slashed, leaving the man’s body gutted on the floor behind her. She’d resigned from the D.A.’s stable of investigators by pinning her letter to the door with the knife she’d used to take out the bad man.

Very good mystery set in Alaska, first in the series which I've read occasionally over the years. Seems to have an excellent feel for the area and based on my own experience with Native American tribes, an excellent sense of the people and local attitudes and politics. ...more

With a wonderful sense of place, a barren, desolate...with some hardy souls place. A nice debut mystery from Ms. Stabenow. 3.5 stars
