Expect the unexpected when you read Shona Husk's books. You'd think I'd have learned that with "Dark Vow" which is one of my favourite almost-steampunk stories. She doesn't allow her characters an easy out, and she definitely presents them (and readers) with unexpected challenges.

Cool premise: warrior cursed (wrongfully) to turn into a goblin. I liked the Shadowlands/Summerlands world. Made a nice change from the usual run of vamps/werewolves/demons. The human villain Steve worked better for me than the evil druid.
This one hit all the right notes for me - tortured hero, interesting concept, unusual world.
