Dark Waltz, a Praestani Novel (#1) by A.M. Hargrove

Dark Waltz is an adult science fiction novel and is the spinoff of the authors Guardians of Vesturon Series (YA Genre). Since I am a huge fan of A.M. Hargrove I was really excited about reading this book to see how she crossed over to the adult genre. Dark Waltz is an ADULT romance based on the character Jurek, who was initially introduced in the Guardians of Vesturon Series. He is a complex character that has been burdened by tragedy and is troubled by a horrific act he committed that has weighed heavily on his conscience for years. Everything he does has an ulterior motive...that is until he meets Liasare. I hope you enjoy the ride!

Rocked my socks right off. I'd actually give it 4陆鈾�'s, but fudged up to 5 for GR. I received an ARC from A.M. Hargrove in exchange for a honest review. This book was SO great... it reminded me of the Donnie and Marie Osmond song "A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock N Roll" only, instead substitute Sci-fi and Dystopian (and a healthy dose of Paranormal.) I really love how this book mashes up so many genres together into this little harmonious, entertaining package.

The Guardians of Vesturon have grown up! Oh, yes!!! This spinoff of A. M. Hargrove's New Adult/YA series is Fantastic! So often, we find spinoffs fall flat, they just don't have that spark the original series had....nope, not a problem here! I think heading several years into the future was a brilliant idea! I do suggest reading The Guardians of Vesturon Series, first, just to 'know' the characters and their stories! You'll be glad you did, trust me!

In Dark Waltz, we are several years into a future on an alien planet, now home to many humans from Earth, in order to save them from almost total annihilation because of a virulent smallpox outbreak.

Liasare Davidson needs to find out what happened to her brother, who has been missing for three months, after going back to Earth. She finds a way to sneak off Vesturon and travel alone, with no idea what she will find. Trained to fight, but not trained to survive, she uses every instinct she has in her search. Too bad she is out of her league.

Jurek, an enigmatic and powerful mercenary must come to Liasare's aid. He is a frightening and cold man, but she is drawn to him. Is it just for the safe feeling he gives her? Is it something more?

Without giving away too much more of the story, let's say they have a love/hate, push me/pull me, 'no relationship' type of relationship until FINALLY, they get it right, at the same time, at least for a while...and it is hot, it is emotional, both are holding back secrets, both have no idea they have had a connection for many years. Both are stronger because of their past damages. Both are awesome characters!

Liasare is snarky, feisty and has a mouth on her that doesn't quit! (All used as a shield.) Jurek may be brutal, but he is actually rather refined, in spite of his ability to inflict pain, torture and death! He also forgets that Liasare is not from his world, so is unaware of his customs, which she tramples on over and over.

The story is intense, the writing flows on and on, flawlessly! The secrets revealed, WOW! Great Read! Definitely romantic! Definitely ADULT!

This novel was something new, refreshing and different from the usual PNR story. I'm not use to read Sci-Fi PNR but when I saw the cover and read the blurb I couldn't ASK for this book (as a part of this blog tour) it was my chance to read and claim this one.

Liasare was a great character, sometime a little childish, but if you read this book, you will soon understand the background and also understand Liasare's behaviour.

To start with I am incredibly grateful to Hargrove for sharing her book with me! I've been a big fan of her work ever since I signed up to read Survival about a year ago. I've been absorbing her books ever since. So when Dark Waltz came out, which is a spin off of sorts for the Guardians of Vesturon Series, I was so incredibly excited! A new series by Hargrove, involving characters I already know and love? Yes Please! I was also pretty excited because this one was to be adult themed. I've been absorbing her books ever since. So when Dark Waltz came out, which is a spin off of sorts for the Guardians of Vesturon Series, I was so incredibly excited! A new series by Hargrove, involving characters I already know and love? Yes Please! I was also pretty excited because this one was to be adult themed. If you've read any of her books, you know she can write up some incredibly drool worthy men. So I was definitely looking forward to expanding in that area ;).

So now that I have finally finished the book, I know that I have a new series to love and follow. Dark Waltz takes us on an adventure with the new race we discovered in Determinant, the Praestani. They are considered to be the most powerful race alive, and darn near indestructible. We met Jurek in Determinant, but in Dark Waltz we get to know him on a seriously deeper level. He has a soft intimate side that I just did not see coming, but I was pleasantly surprised! Although he can be a little to violent for my tastes at times, Liasare can push back just as hard.

Which brings us to Liasare. She is also another character pulled from Determinant. But not one we payed much attention to at all. I absolutely love how Hargrove does this. All her characters and stories interweave together so awesomely. It ends up that you get to know almost every single character at a very intimate level. I don't want to give away who she is, so I'm not going to tell you. It is so much more fun to discover it on your own. I know I love watching all these pieces come together to create this wonderful story. I also love that we get little peeks at the characters we met in previous books. Glimpses of what has been going on for them since we left them last.

So when Liasare leaves Vesturon to save her brother from the Xanthians she encounters Jurek, and the rest is, a very steamy, history. Hargrove did an extremely good job writing the more adult romantic scenes. They were romantic and intimate and perfectly detailed, without being to over the top or lewd. Aside from the very enjoyable love scenes between Liasare and Jurek, we also get fast paced adventure, action, and mystery! Liasare just might be the prophesied person to save everyone from the vile Xanthians. But the battles she has to fight a long the way seem impossible for her to win. With monstrous enemies and little to no experince in this new world of abilities she finds herself in, will she be strong enough? What is not to love about a book that has all those things?! Romance, Sci-Fi Adventure, fast paced action, steamy hot male characters, and a little mystery. You just can't complain with ingredients like that. Especially when they are so wonderfully written by a great author like A.M Hargrove.

If you haven't read any of her books so far, I so very strongly recommend that you do! Once you start you will be hooked! I can't wait to see what happens next for Jurek and Liasare, we were definitely left at a high point, aching to know more. Come on book #2, I just need to know what happens next!! ...more

However when things go bad Liasare is rescued not once but twice by Jurek a handsome strange she can鈥檛 help finding herself attracted to. Both of them are keeping secrets about the true identities from each other. Jurek is equally drawn to the innocent girl who鈥檚 searching for her brother and wants to help her but doesn鈥檛 want to risk his reason for being on earth either. When the chance comes up for them to attend a ball where they are hoping will reveal what has happened to her brother. When Liasare comes across Tommy he doesn鈥檛 seem to notice her and even shoots her in the chest. Thankfully Jurek is able to save her life by healing her wound, but they learn that the bullet has a tracker and are forced to flee.

Dark Waltz has a beautiful cover that just teases the reader. I really enjoyed the story-line it flows along smoothly creating an enchanting mix of mystery and romance. I think the use of the dystopia and sci fi genre are used well together they create a world of mystery. The concept for Dark Waltz is an exciting adventure that pulls you in right from the start and doesn鈥檛 let go till the end. I love the characters Liasare is innocent but strong and determine to risk her life to find the brother who was there when she needed him the most. She鈥檚 a great heroine because she鈥檚 not perfect which makes her more connectible. What more can I say about Jurek tall dark and handsome who is oh so yummy but more than just a body, he鈥檚 strong and very supportive of Liasare which is what she needs in a man. I will say this book does have a lot of language and the sexual nature is mixed throughout the book (Yup my hubby makes fun of me for being a little prude because I blush when I read about sex) I would suggest over 18 but if you alright with the sex and language I would highly suggest you take a look at Dark Waltz. This is my first book by A.M Hargrove but I鈥檓 sure it won鈥檛 be my last. I look forward to reading the next book in the series to see what happens next.
