The opening lines of a book are very important for catching the attention of the reader. Some well known examples are: "Call me Ishmael." "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."

This is such a sweet little story and I read it about 8 years ago. It has everything I like, from a simple, sensible and sometimes innocent heroine to a vivacious and helpful friend with a quaint little village thrown in. The book deals with the heroine's first taste of independence, how she savours it in the beginning and then gets flustered when some unexpected things occur. There is a fair sprinkling of humour and I enjoyed this strangely satisfying book which brought quite a bit of warmth to
