This historical fantasy is full of in-depth world-building, (which I think I’m still wrapping my head around) interesting characters, and some political and social elements that still ring true today. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next book soon!

I’m so sick of ridiculous cliffhanger endings.

3.5 bumped up to 4. I think it could have been a little shorter overall. The characters were a little too typical but the writing was good so my interest was held. The end of the book was good and ended on a really good cliffhanger. I could see reading on.

This book was amazing. I started it as an audiobook which helped with some of the pronoucations of some of the unfamiliar words and names. I wasn’t a huge fan of the tone the narrator used however.

I ended up finishing the book with a physical copy, which helped me understand the characters more. There were many different characters that at the beginning it was hard to remember them all. I loved learning about the Islamic culture and mythology, as I did not have a foundation to start from it was

This one just didn’t hook me for some reason. Possibly because I didn’t like Nahri all that much—her reaction to everything seemed to be “what?! and I have little patience these days for petulant adolescent/emerging adult characters 🤷🏼‍♀ May still give Kingdom of Copper a try at some point, though.
