4.5 stars rounded up because I love this story and can’t wait to see what happens next.

This took a little while for me to get into so maybe a 3.5, but it did pick up for me, so I rounded up. Not sure I followed all the historical anomalies as Diane and Matthew travel back to Elizabethan London, but I enjoyed the main characters. Unfortunately, there are over 50 people on the waiting list for the third book.

I got an ARC so please note this book doesn't come out until 07/10/12.
Yeah, it's pretty much as good as you expected for a book that is totally ALL MIDDLE!
"Shadow of Night" picks up exactly where "Discovery of Witches" left and takes us back to Elizabethan England. It's lots of backstory about Matthew, the Knights of Lazarus and the Covenant, and it's written with the same fascinating eye for detail, sense and sound as DOW. Having said that, it was an excellent book. I didn't love it as much as A Discovery of Witches but given that I had to wait a year for it and probably had overly high expectations, I'm not surprise ...more

Still enjoyable, but not really one I'd rush out to recommend. I think I actually liked this one better than the first.

Deborah Harkness is in her element with this book. I found it much more compelling than the first (though that one was fun too) and loved the "historical fiction" aspect of it without it being historical fiction.
You know I love time travel.
Now if she could just hurry it up writing the next one. ...more

Much better than first book. Now I can't wait for the final one!
