One minor plot quibble aside, this was a really satisfying middle book to this trilogy. Nicely built off the first one, good twists (that were not so shocking as to make me think they were unfounded), and great setup for the third, which I already understand has folks really split on the course it takes. I remain intrigued enough that this series might be read right after the new year.

It took me a little while to pick this up, (because I remembered the last one as a bit harsh for me) however, it grabbed me right away and only took me a couple days to read. This seemed to be more of a mystery than the first, though I might have been more comfortable with the world and able to focus more on the story.

I had the same issue with the second book as I did with the first - the entire story development is rushed. Action (of the violent kind) replaces any kind of meaningful development of the characters, their relationships, or the world they live in.

They just seemed like random names at a certain point. I liked the ending of the book and the promise of what's coming next in the trilogy, but ...more
