Not to my taste at all. Poor Tetley. How awful for her to be treated like that and bear all those scars and I don't know how she kept on living. So horrible how much we can hate one another. To me, the only remotely hopeful part of the book was the afterward from the author. ...more

2 stars. This novella is an exercise in world-building and the development of one character, to the exclusion of nearly everything else. Unfortunately, the dystopia presented here is unrealistic in many respects, rendering the exercise somewhat pointless. The prose was full of run-on sentences, but this being intentional did not make them any more pleasant to read. The endings of each of the two sections did pack a fairly heavy thematic punch.

An absolute masterpiece. Moving at times, hilarious at others, truly so unique and beautiful in its prose. I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be my favorite book for the next long while to come.
