4.5 stars. It was a slow but intense read. I was expecting a little more action, but perhaps this was more realistic. I enjoyed Hendrix's detailed writing and would often wonder if it was a clue, but he was just precise and it caused very real pictures in my head. Sometimes that was gruesome! Fun to read at Halloween.

My favorite growing up was Steel Magnolias and to be honest it is still up there in favorite movies of all time. I have to be honest I read Salem’s Lot a few years ago and found it to be a boring allegorical take on the death of small town of America. I say all this because I was super intrigued by a story pitched as Steel Magnolias meets Salem’s Lot but I think that pitch actually worked in this case.

I have mixed thoughts on this one. Read for the Frisco Unread and Undead book club
If horror is your jam, you should pick this up. Horror isn’t really my jam. That said I think it is a good book it’s just so grim for me. I read it, I breezed right through it. As a housewife with two kids who grew up in the south and I would have been about the same age of the kids in this novel making my mom the main character- it was really too real at time.
